In this video, Philippe Poggianti (VP, Business Development, Qualcomm) delivers a masterclass from Qualcomm 5G Summit on 5G mmWave and its implications for business insights.
Recent and ongoing 5G mmWave deployments across the globe are proving that operators will receive significant economic benefits enabled by the extreme capacity of 5G mmWave tech. In doing so, operators will also enable new user experiences, enterprise applications, and the full promise of 5G. In this video, learn various business insights from 5G mmWave case studies in Europe, Southeast Asia, Australia and North America.
5G mmWave technology is redefining mobile experiences for users and OEMs, allowing for access to previously untapped frequency bands above 24 GHz. This extreme spectrum can deliver the fastest available 5G speeds, abundant capacity, and ultra-low latency - perfect for high-density locations and 5G private networks that enable mission-critical industrial automation. And Qualcomm is at the forefront of its proliferation.
5G mmWave can deliver speeds 19x faster than sub-6 GHz 5G and 38x faster than 4G LTE. With download speeds of up to 10 Gbps, 5G mmWave is essentially wireless fiber. mmWave technology is the missing piece of the 5G puzzle, and will unlock the true potential of 5G connectivity. It is an essential tech for users, and offers OEMs significant monetary potential and returns on investment.
A recent whitepaper by Bell Labs Consulting analyzed consumer and enterprise scenarios in six European regions - France, UK, Russia, Spain, Italy, and Germany - and answered important questions about the business imperatives of 5G mmWave. Bell Labs found that 5G mmWave deployments offer an enticing business case for operators when deployed alongside existing sub-6 GHz networks.
Specifically, when deployed in high-density locations, 5G mmWave networks offer on average a four-year payback period with a rate of return of 20 to 30 percent after the fourth year, according to the Bell Labs whitepaper. And 5G mmWave solutions can scale at specific high-density locations - train stations, airports, stadiums, college campuses, and offices, for example.
5G mmWave is a true game changer - both lucrative for operators and beneficial to users.
