Quality Importers Old World Humidor Unboxing & Review: Good Seal On A Budget
At around $70-80, the Old World is a similar model to the Old Glory, which we've included on many of our Best Humidor lists. Over the course of 2 years, we've found the Old Glory to have an excellent seal and good storage characteristics in general.
The Old World has a world map motif on the top and sides, rather than the U.S. flag of the Old Glory. As for the interior, it's kiln-dried Spanish cedar, with SureSeal technology in the lip. This results in remarkably little moisture exchange for the budget price range. Note that seasoning is especially critical for kiln-dried wood like we find here.
You get a tray with one divider, and two dividers to use below the tray. The tray itself is Spanish cedar. Inside the lid are frames for the included humidification device and analog hygrometer. These frames are only tacked in, and you can pop them off with a knife if needed.
The humidification device that comes with the Old World uses florist's foam, an inadequate solution that needs daily recharging. To get the most out of this humidor, we recommend Boveda humidification.
Overall, the construction is good for the price range. Rather than solid cedar, much of the body is plywood with cedar veneer, but it's sturdier than other budget wood options.

How does the Old Glory humidor do with keeping the temperature consistent

I have one but it’s the Man ‘O War. It does a great job other than having to put 72 boveda in to maintain 68. One day I’ll aspire to buying a Davidoff Churchill humidor like you. Although that is a third the price of another watch.

Yeah, it's pretty pricey especially if you have your eye on something else! We've heard good things about the Man o' War. We ought to review it in the future so thanks for bringing it up! @@Bespokeunit thanks. One more question. You mentioned the wood was Spanish cedar, which I heard is a highly aromatic wood. I plan to explore a local shop for options but is the cedar scent strong enough that it would effect flavor of tobacco or tea? I heard conflicting info online.

@@kingrichardiii6280 that's true. Spanish cedar is technically a type of aromatic acacia and can be quite fragrant. The flavour it can impart of cigars is usually very pleasant albeit less than most people claim. Alternatively, some humidors today are made from okoumé, which is an odourless African wood. This is quite rare, though, and humidors made from it can be expensive. However, it's actually cheaper and easier to buy as wood than Spanish cedar as it isn't as restricted so you could theoretically make a container out if it. That said, it behaves differently than cedar when it comes to humidity. While cedar absorbs moisture, okoumé is resistant so is used to block rather than channel it. Best, CP

Had this humidor for a few weeks. Not bad in keeping a consistent humidity, a few points off but not bad considering it was 90 Buck's. Nice decorative look and the lock is sturdy.

Full disclosure, looking for a humidor not for cigars but for tea, which I have heard these kind of humidors are suitable for tea aging. My main concerns with this product was the reviews on the weird humidity readings, which was answered in the video explaining the included gauge and humidifier are not very good, and the volume of the humidor, tea disks are about the size of a spread hand and hope to get a humidor to age a small collection of tea. By eye it looks the tea disks I get may fit if the tray is removed but I am completely ignorant on humidors and was worried if removing the tray would inhibit the function of the humidor, lack of circulation or ruining the seal. If I removed the tray to use the extra space along the bottom do you think that would negatively effect the humidor?

Hi there, Not at all! You can happily remove the tray without it causing any issues. I sometimes use it without when I want to put a few extra cigars in there. Best, CP

Should I install the boveda 320 mounting plate before or after seasoning? Does the lid already contain a magnet? Thanks in advance.

Hi Christian, This humidor doesn't have an in-built magnet but the mounting plate comes with adhesive magnets so you can attach it to the lid. You can add put the plate in the humidor before seasoning or after. Since it's made of metal, it won't change anything. Best, CP

What if I have the smaller one I believe it holds 25 cigars so I just used one pack!

Ordered the humidor. Quick question...how do I know what samplers to start with as a new smoker? I’ve noticed myself just buying everything lol. Just wondering what you guys would start with as far as a sampler goes. Thanks, Trey

Hi Trey, Now there's a million dollar question! You can find some good discounted samplers on Thompson Cigar. We think that a great place to start is Nub by Oliva, which has a variety of flavour profiles. They also have lots of great samplers to try things out like their "90 rated sampler" or "artisan series sampler". Once you've made the rounds, you can start to know the sort of thing that you like and opt for samplers that are by country or leaf (e.g. Dominican samplers and Maduro samplers).
