In London in the late 70s all we could get were " coiled" cables. Lou Reed used a £5 thirty ft coily cable , he said he wanted to pick up as much radio traffic as possible as it added extra colour to his Guitar sound when he played live...serious. He bought his own spares, no roadies or butlers( Circa 1987)? RIP Lou. Ms Fazio , your video created a " Flash-back" for me and for this I thank-you.

@@mishame156 you gotta know what you're doing but yes, if you have the skill and knowledge to choose the good stuff, doing it yourself is THE way. True enough I guess, learning that people will pay $15 - $20 just to change their strings was mind-blowing for me. I guess a few hundred for a cable isn't too much for those types. Still, I'd rather buy amps, or guitars... or food!

Here’s a legit question I’ve always had about coily cables: If longer cables increase resistance and cause tone to suffer, wouldn’t a coily cable be adding a ton of extra cable length without that much benefit in distance from the amp? I know they stretch, to a degree, but for most uses, unless the cable stays stretched out to nearly max distance, all it’s doing is adding a whole bunch of extra wire for the signal to pass through. Am I wrong here?

@marcotrosi5 ай бұрын
@@FazioElectric I absolutely love right angled cables 😊, but in a Tele, which I play. For me it's not about the shape of the cable, but about the shape of the cable and where it goes into, so that it's convenient and it can't break. Same for the other end, I look at the shape of the Amp input and decide which shapes makes more sense. And also on the pedal board. Depends where the input/outputs of your first and last pedal are positioned. At the end I had to buy many cables in various shapes and lengths. Angled+Angled, Angled+Straight, Straight+Straight, and all in 3 and 6 meters. Okay, now that I'm writing it down I feel I have some kind of OCD - dammit.
