I got in touch with you a while back whilst fixing a musicman amp and now you are featuring Kevin Nelson! who came up with driving the cathodes with the signal using transistors a fixed dc voltage on the grid. WTF! Lots of interesting info thanks👍

I feel really bad if I move the amplifier from one room to another because of temperature or humidity , but if they went on the road I definitely going to pack them in a are sealed container , and slowly acclimate them if we open it

I have this same amp and removed the death cap and replaced 2 prong with a 3 prong chord exactly as you did. I plugged it in and it blew the fuse and produced some smoke out of resistors at pilot light. It worked before I did exactly as you did. Have you got any ideas why?

You need to be more scientific to what to do rather than just emperical judgements. With appropriate instruments you can test current component values, you can now, 2024, easily simulate the classical designs in software, thus you will now when flashover will occur, what limits you have to work with etc. You can then work out the SOA (safe operating area) for the design, and know its limits.

I’ve played way too many amps for someone of my (lack of) talent, but the phase inverter MM 210 Sixty-Five is the combo I’d save in a house fire.

Colleen keep a small mild little fan on the workbench to blow the smoke away from your face, also be sure to wash your hands frequently... all my life I've heard bad stories .

Hey there Colleen, I like the work you do. I took the furniture out of living room , burnt it , bringing in all the military World War II equipment so I can conduct The Philadelphia Experiment also the aliens have been trying to contact me so I need to build the radio to call them back. Totally freaked out Sunday when I found a flux capacitor at a antique flea market ,Doc Brown said we can go back and tell Marty he missed a note when he was playing Johnny B Goode , and be careful with that Chuck Berry guy that will steal the sound. Colleen let me know if you can help me put this spaceship together.... (love your nerdy girl show it's totally cool) I'll start saving the money . PS Tesla said to ask you which do you prefer AC or DC ?🤭

Amazing story of his self-made career. I and my dad built a pair of Altec Voice of The Theater style cabs for PA use back in the late 70s. We used JBL drivers and horns mounted on top with crossover controls on the back. They were amazing, if not really the brand. Love this video. Thanks for sharing. (PS: shout out for the Robin Trower tee-shirt! One of my favorite guitarists) kzbin.infoZ-Yd28FXPsQ?si=mSHqwPBrP2FZ33Qg

You could have pulled the output tubes and just turn it on. The hv will be at its peak with no load and should start the arc. BTW It’s nice to see a woman do this and know what she’s doing! Your voice is nice, too. I’ve done this kind of job for60+ Year’s. I’m also a designer of hi end stereo amps with lots of tubes. Kudos for you!!!

Wow. It reminds me of my youth in the 70/80s upbringing. I worked for 3 crazy English guys that opened an incredible music store in Gothenburg, Sweden, Music Unlimited, MUG. I did all the repairs/service for them in late 70s and mid 80s. They managed to get the Scandivian sales distribution for Earnie Ball, Altec and Hiwatt. Must have done a million of recones on Altec and Celestion. I actually visit Dave Reeves in 1980, I was hoping to meet Harry Joyce.....but no. I got a few Music Man amps with the SS driver, which confused the hell of me. Never seen anything like it, but all make sense now. My boss tried to get the schematic for them, but it was a no. I reverse engineered it and figured out. Thank You for a good channel, BR PeterS

Regarding soldering to the chassis: using a small soldering iron to solder connections to a metal chassis is like trying to drive railroad spikes with a tack hammer-! It should always be possible to make a solder connection in 3 seconds or less- regardless of the size of the parts- otherwise, there's something wrong with your equipment, or your technique. Dr. Carlson's Lab posted a video on KZbin about using a modified Weller soldering gun to make solder connections to a metal chassis.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting Kevin twice, and have been fortunate to have him work on my amps. Kevin is a very gentle, kind, and unassuming “experienced” soul. His resume is vast and his obvious passion for amps, guitars and music are reflected in his work. An absolute treasure no doubt. I received so many compliments on my twin that he worked on. Thanks Kevin!

Hey. Not quite that the truss rods in the MusicMan was installed upside down. The single truss rod was installed straight with no droop. This required too much force to achieve the result so the rods regularly stripped the threads or broke. The bridges had faulty design aspects where the string would force the saddle sideways spoiling the alignment of the G string on the fingerboard. I bet these errors where the result of Leo Fender's stubborn intransurgance.

Awesome interview. Great storytelling and history! I just watched a video about Clapton's pre-amp circuit an hour ago. Imagine my surprise when I heard Kevin talk about his role in developing it! I had a MM 112RD 50W combo 40 years ago. I eventually sold it to my older brother. He still has it. I wouldn't mind buying it back, but he won't sell it, lol. He knows what he has.
