Carlo, the gentleman behind the brand, has said that he wanted to keep the price low on this offering because for him, it was more of a passion project.

Thank you much for sharing this pen with us, David. I really appreciate it. Such a stunning pen. I want one so bad! 🤩

An urushi pen with a gold nib for 395 USD? Limited to 50 units? Alright, the FOMO is strong with this one, and like a little twig, I broke and pulled the trigger. Thanks for showing us this gem!

Just get a Platinum Izumo, Not that much more expensive and a way more interesting shape. Just checked: it's 400$ when ordering via ZenMarket or some other Kind of Proxy Provider straight from Japan.

Beautiful pen, and since I'm not in a position to spend $400 on one right now--even if it's a good deal--I went to bed last night hoping that they would sell out before I woke up and did something stupid. And, lo and behold, they're all gone. Thanks, ensso customers!

Lovely pen! 😍 Urushi is such craftsmanship, amazing!! I appreciate the low price (Thank you, Carlo! 👏). Still a bit too high for me though. Doesn't matter, I will patiently wait and save up 😊 Love the ink choice as well!

I can’t help but feel that if this was offered With a steel nib, it would be even more accessible! Steel nibs perform exceptionally well these days! But that’s mainly down to the tuning of the tipping.

This is crazy. The price is same as a Chinese urushi pen with smaller Bock 14k nib, made with Japanese Urushi and Nikko hard rubber. Really incredible that they make in Japan.

Love this! If I'm not mistaken, the diamine communication breakdown is from a series for Brexit lol, available in the UK
@FigbootonPens10 ай бұрын
The Brexit was a different series. The rock & roll series was created for a specific German retailer who is a big "rocker". For a while, it was only available through that retailer...now it can be found in a few other places.
@criptocarla10 ай бұрын
@@FigbootonPens Ah ok, makes sense. I bought the brexit one, bloody absinthe and communication breakdown from a German retailer on the same shipment, that might be why I think of them as the same theme. Thanks for the clarification, the rocker story is way cooler :)

Looks nice, thanks for sharing. If they are using Japanese urushi and handwork by Japanese craftsmen than they cannot be making much, if any, money on this project. Maybe for the publicity or to test the market or maybe a special occasion.

I am very skeptical of the quality. It might look nice, but how many layers? How well is it cured?

How do you grade urushi? I see the value in the artist but have a hard time with the solid red or black
@joanwerthman411610 ай бұрын
I think some if the value in one color pens is that each layer of lacquer has to be strictly even to avoid streaks, which can be a very tricky business. Also you have to wait quite some time for each layer to dry and it's all very labor intensive.

I've always been interested in how humans milk trees for their juicy sap - rubber, urushi, and so on.

According to a wood database site, Waddywood is the hardest...but it seems like there is contradictory information out there. Oh well...they are both very hard!

Beautiful pen. Quite honestly, I would be afraid to even take it out, and handle it. The finish is so scratch-friendly that it would not be an everyday pen.
@jacobus5710 ай бұрын
Properly cured urushi is very scratch resistant. I am highly skeptical of the provenance and quality of the urushi on this pen because arithmetic. Many layers, long cures, expensive material. Maybe it's okay but I am very skeptical.

@@jacobus57 so you're saying it's too cheap for such an urushi over ebonite, gold nib pen? Even Mr Cypress seems to be more expensive for an equivalent finish.

@@jacobus57From other urushi care website’s, the only weakness is sunlight. It seems sunlight ( UV?) will case the lacquer to fade.

BTW, this pen reminds me of the Izumo. I expect over time, the red will become a bit more pronounced., even with taking the usual care of wiping them with a polishing cloth after use and storing them away from sunlight.
