It has been said, possibly cynically, that the reason that these radios are so open is that the manufacturer is using the community to do their research and development for them.

@@HamTechRadioScannerDrones that misses the point that having the community do all the work on firmware, software, etc only to take that work and sell it on could be considered by some to be exploitation. The custom firmwares and this docking software are excellent work, far better than has come out from any manufacturer in the last few years.

Getting feedback from users is the only way firmware can be developed to suit Ham operators it's not exploitation its Win Win for everyone, Remember hams love experimenting .
