YEP , more and more it’s becoming a younger man’s hobby , speaking with fellas that do testing they said approximately 80% younger fellas are testing AND PASSING , it’s out with the old and in with the new 😂 No more 100’ towers and aluminum tube yagis 40’ long with rotors that can turn a ton , they’ll always be a few out there that have the room and resources for well I hate using the term old school but alternative way of getting the job done , I’m trying to invite both world’s to my son giving a rounded outlook on radio operations . 🤷♂️

@@temporarilyoffline Yea I know what you mean , I said the same thing when I got my first lap dance 😂🍺🍺

Great mod. That vibrato is probably due to an inductor in the PLL. It's "microphonic" like a tube's grid could be. A dab of silicone might stop it. $17 is a bargain. 73
@temporarilyofflineАй бұрын
I thought (probably incorrectly) that ringing happened all the time, not with physical movement?
@WECB640Ай бұрын
@@temporarilyoffline If it "warbles" only on FT8, that's a function of the modulation on FT8 and it's normal. If it happens on SSB as you strike the side of the HT, then it's microphonic in nature. You'll hear it more clearly by injecting a carrier (like from the NanoVNA on a short wire) and then tapping the HT to see if it warbles. 73
@temporarilyofflineАй бұрын
@@WECB640 I grok the concept, but I'll add(for clarity for future readers) that it's not only FT8 warbling. It's not a "great" SWL option, it's worth every penny you pay for it though.
@AZREDFERNАй бұрын
I wish they would update the VX6 with SSB. Because it’s so good at receiving HF and shortwave AM. But all SSB sounds nightmarish in AM mode. I thought about getting a PL990, but that’s another $270, and a giant brick to carry around.

Try fagci reborn firmware way better recieve with si4732 then cec or ijv firmwares, chirp module has support for all functions and can specify what chip to use in vfo so no seperate functions or menus

I bought one of these boards after watching Paul OM0ET fit one in a video on his channel. It looked fairly straight forward to do.....I WAS WRONG !!!! Aliexpress, in their IMPOTENT wisdom sent me a package of components not a built unit, there are 23 components on the board, 3 separate chips, various resistors and diodes and so on. They are so small, even with my largest loupe (10x magnification) I cannot see them, we are talking resistors that are less than 1mm long including their soldering pads. There is NO WAY a human could hand assemble one of these boards, the PCB itself is only 3 micron thick polymer, so any heat from a soldering iron burns it instantly, the components are so small they melt on contact with an iron and IF you were able to hold your hand steady enough to do surface mount soldering, there is NO INSTRUCTION SHEET SUPPLIED and none of the components other than the 16 pin chip have any numbers on them. There are 6 resistors on a backing sheet, all different values and they are all EXACTLY the same colour and size with no markings. 5 diodes the same way on another backing sheet. I doubt many people could fit the completed unit themselves, it's far fiddlier than it appears to be in the video, but I'm 100% certain there is NO ONE ALIVE that could do it from the parts they sent me.....If you can get one of these radios with this board already fitted, snap it up quick, there wont be many of them available I wouldn't think.

I have always stayed away from aliexpress - the long shipping times and the question of "what will I actually get in my order" just makes me nope.

Do a comparison with a CCrane!

I bet the CCrane would blow it away on reception! When I get one, if I haven't given the quansheng away I'll do that. The CCrane already wins on usability without even looking.
