Quantum computing doesn't really pose a threat to long term cyber security as there are quantum-resistant cryptographic algortithms which have been known about and used for decades just not en mass, the challenge is widespread adoption and also increased energy/performance usage because these algorithms are "bigger." There's a lot of overhype around quantum computing which should be dispelled, overall it can help us understand quantum effects and simulate reactions, they are it's two usecases really. Currently the field is in it's infancy and it'll be a while before we see much benefit.
