I wanted to thank you profusely for posting this video. I was able to use this guidance to manage the tilt on a wheelchair. We were repairing for a friend. Another poster on KZbin suggested using a Schumacher battery charger because it had the ability to desulfate the batteries in the chair which had gone below 10%. Between you, two extremely helpful people I am happy to say that the batteries were able to be completely recharged and are back in the machine doing their job! Thank you again, I can’t tell you how important this was to the owner of the chair. I think it’s just criminal that the manufacturer would have put these chairs out in the market without having a better provision for the battery change. But you saved the day!

Thank you for explaining that the correct charger for the deep cycle batteries had a built in safety feature and that they would not charge the low batteries. Also it is important to disconnect the trickle charger and let the correct charger finish the job. This is something that is not generally understood and is a basic fundamental that must be explained when dealing with deep cycle batteries.

@SouthernCountryLiving4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I'm not familiar with that connector. I would guess that it controls the tilt and maybe and up/down motor or something else. It would take a couple of trial by error attempts to connect the voltage for just a second to see if it tilts upward. If you can find a model number you might be able to find the service manual online for it. Good luck with your chair. Calvin and Marie

Did you charge one battery at a time or connect to the factory battery cable that hooked to the battery while it in the chair/ the chair operates on 24 volts, and it looks like you're using a 12 volt charger.
@SouthernCountryLiving4 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I used a regular car battery charger and a 12 volt power supply at the same time. If you just use the battery charger you would have to charge them one at a time. The chair my father used has set in my house unused for the last 8 years. At first both batteries were under one volt. @@SouthernCountryLiving I have several times charged the batteries all day but only got up to about 7 volts. Is it possible that I need a stronger battery charger? My lo has an older 2.0 with the i level and was good for 10 to 15 miles . Her newest 1 of a year drains the batteries in max 2 miles. Its a shame theese companies do not stand behind there products with good warranties . But I'd like to ask why a charger would have to even go into a safety feature . That makes no sense at all . If a regular charger 12v I assume does thw job why wouldn't the manufacturers?
@SouthernCountryLiving3 жыл бұрын
Yes, these new ones aren't as good but nothing is now days. The charger is designed to cut off if the batteries are bad so that it doesn't start a fire from trying to charge a bad battery. When I connect a regular charger I'm supposed to monitor it in case of a problem. On the chairs most of the time the charger is connected and left connected all night long. It would be a terrible situation if a fire started. The charger reads the battery voltage and if it is very low it thinks that the battery is dead and won't start charging. His chair continued to work with these batteries. Several months ago his health deteriorated and the nursing home will not allow him to use the power chair right now. Thanks for your question, Calvin

Thanks for watching, that is a good question. The batteries are sealed batteries for safety reasons and we think that someone left the chair on when he was transported to the hospital for about five days.
