fix wheelchair batteries that won't charge

Once the batteries go bad you may be able to charge them up but they won't last long.

the easy way would be to have a 12/24v charger that charges lithium/lead/lifepo4 that has a pulse repair there cheap as chips and there handy for all 12/24v batterys

Would I be able to just disconnect the batteries and put them onto a trickle charger? I'm terrified of messing around with electricity, partially from my own ignorance.

Yes. I just didn't have one handy. It works just fine. Hook up the trickle and let it run for about an hour and then you charger should pick it up

I got Jazzy wheel chair new for my dad, in very short time he died, the wheel chair is never used for 2 years, I had same problem like yours , I did what you explained both lights came on, I left it for 2 days but no power, what should I do next, thank you.

I left mine uncharhed all winter again. Since the last video, I acquired a 12 volt battery charger. I hooked it up until the control lights came on then swapped to the actual chair charger. It took 16 or so hours, but is now fully charged again

How did you determine which was the positive and which was the negative on the plug to the chair?

The Harness on the chair is actually labeled for me. It was the chord that I had to guess on LOL.

Dude you have just saved me a lot of cash. Pops is in a home where he is going to be moving on! And I am stuck with a SHOPRIDER 6RUNNER 14HD which never ever had anyone ride in it . He always kept the thing charged. But 5 months after he was in the hospital we didn't even know that you have to keep it with a charge. So we ran it out of juice and now don't charge. Do you think a charge for a car battery on trickle will be okay?

Possibly. Set it at 6 volts if possible. Dont blow it up! I'm an amateur lol

Trickle charging with a car charger will do the trick, but if the cells have been dead for that long, you will be putting a bandage on a bruise. There's only so many CC"s these batteries have before they're totally chemically cauterized.

I'm going to try this but 1st I have to get the covers off the batteries. I have a Pride Revo 2.0. 3 wheel & it says to lift the handle & pull straight up & should come right up & to start with the left side. I have tried & tried & it feels like it's locked any ideas before I start trying to pry it open?

Solid video. Basically your saying the newer "smart chargers" wouldn't allow the battery to charge- but a simpler charger of the same voltage allowed it to take a charge?

Exactly, but without buying a "dumb" charger that would fit. Just strip the wires of the charger for the kids toy and stick it in the harness.

This video is exactly what I needed. (I wish you would have put in the instructions to.... find out which wire is positive and which is negative. Question... I have 2 little jeeps like the one you have by the jazzy. The batteries won't charge. Can you explain how to jump start those please.

The Hot Wheels batteries are probably 6 Volt but they are probably not on a smart charger. The reason that this hack works is because I am fooling the smart charger Because the batteries weren't actually toasted they were just drained completely so Smart charger didn't recognize there were batteries hooked up to it to charge so it did nothing. I gave it a little bit of juice just to kick start the smart charger. Chances are the Hot Wheels has a regular charger so your charger that should charge no matter how low the battery is so chances are they are completely toasted and need replaced

I used a trickle charger for a bit and then plugged the charger back in and the charge light is on now. I'll know for sure tomorrow once the charger has been going for long enough to see if it worked.

Thanks Jenny! So glad it helped. I appreciate the comment! It was going to be a big hassle to remove the batteries and I don't own a trickle charger so I worked with what I had. These new "smart" chargers are the reason it wouldn't charge. The battery cells were fine. Like I said in the video, this chair has never been used so I was sure they weren't spent.
