The point of the system is to show users what works and what requires tinkering. The Deck does not require tinkering if you use it like a console/ just use the Verified Games!

Quantum annoys me for a number of reasons, but top of the list is his insistence that spending big = his RIGHT to be annoyed above and beyond anyone that didn't spend as much. Welp... as an owner of a Ryzen 9 based 3080 system choked with a chode of 64GB of RAM, pushing pixels to a 50" 4k OLED screen and a 1080p chat screen as a PC gamer... just like him... (it's a 3D modelling and rendering rig for my "other" job not just gaming, but I digress) So in terms of monetary spending for PC performance I would call my self "On par" with him to pass comment on the steam deck, by his own foolish pointless standards. ... I cheeped out and got the lowest cost steam deck, and upgraded it, did the research, and I am having a freaking great time with it because I did the f**king research, knew what I was buying and noted that anything beyond the mid-tier was only for bragging rights unless you "needed" the screen... and couldn't wait for an extra week or so to find out that there are 3rd party tempered and tinted screens that can be applied and replaced should it get scratched... If It is your intention to "Buy once cry once" you RESEARCH LIKE A MF BEFORE YOU BUY! You sure as fuck don't buy, spend "big" then bitch about it because the entirety of a 3rd party developers didn't actively alter decades worth of content to retroactively function on your portable PC because you lack the common sense or ability to use an alternate OS on that device while also failing to notice that you can actively download and USE your preferred OS if you wish... The man is a dullard, an absolute buffoon, a simpleton, a chiding and immature idiot that still somehow believes that throwing money at something somehow makes him better than other people... ... in short, a fool.

I love how he thinks valve chose linux case it's cheap. Well I switch to linux from windows 10 for a reason. And why valve chose it 1. Since Linux is open source, it's in many machines, such as vending machines, ATMs, heck even NASA use linux for their devices, not only cause it's free but because they can easily modify it to do whatever they want, but if you want windows on those machine, not only would you have to spend $60 for each machine, but also Windows is closed-source, meaning they can't modify it, so it increases chance for fatal errors, unknown data, much harder to program, and fear of spyware from microsoft. 2. According to Nintendo Switch reverse-engineer group, Nintendo switch uses a Unix-like OS with some parts of BSD. For those that aren't tech-savvy, this basically means that while Nintendo switch isn't linux, it uses a kind of clone of linux. This is fine, these things are called unix-like for a reason and it's not like they are hated, also, it's fine if a company does this, it's normal for a group or community to use open-source products for beneficial reasons. but you cannot say that "valve is cheap cause they use linux and linux is free" cause Nintendo literally does the exact same thing 3. Many people like me or even companies like valve switch to linux because microsoft are kinda... I can't say the word cause you know, youtube. But the word is a men-only part. Not only are they closed-source but also does shady stuff, besides being very spyware they also add features way too late you know how in windows 11 they have multi-desktop? Well did you know they had the same function on Linux for over a decade? Heck maybe in the 1990's they have that. Oh yeah and the recent addition of tabs on the file manager? Yeah, that's been on linux for over a decade too. This doesn't even scratch the surface of the power of linux. Valve made it clear that they want to switch to linux and want gamers to switch to linux. Heck, there are rumors that if Half-life 3 ever comes out, it will be a linux-exclusive. They don't like windows at all and will is actively trying to move gamers to linux. that's all I have to say, also for fun in the replies I'll talk about how many people worked on linux as a whole
@ethanissupercool71682 жыл бұрын
so, since to the power of open-source. Any developer can contribute to the code. The steam-deck uses multiple open source projects to compile it (this list will heavily rely of guessing and assuming each commit was made by 1 person) for linux itself, there are around 1,137,317 commit as of 2022 according to github. That's just linux, and assuming that this number is correct, if not then it's even higher. GNU, a main component for linux, has around 400 Employees. Steam OS uses Arch linux, and since Arch linux are huge linux dudes, we just assume for now that each one has commit just once, we get around 120,000 commits for steamOS itself, while hard to say, but if we were to say that every employee worked on the project one way or another, then that means we have around 500 employees then, to display the desktop for steamOS, they use KDE. Which has 500 employees alone, and according to github, there are 12,656 commits, not including the default apps like textpad or image viewer app. For compatibility, steam uses wine as it's base for their own product, which contains 160,412 commits. But Steam Created a modification of wine called proton, which extends wine's capabilities. Which assuming steam employees work on it, means we have 1,373 of contributors. So in conclusion, if we add this all up, the amount of people that are making linux a better gaming or a computer platform in general is 1,433,158 people, assuming each commit is a single person. This number also does not include the amount of commits outside of github, companies that contributed, or 3rd-party open-source apps, we haven't even begun with other projects like proton-GE which fix bugs from the original proton, emulators, open source apps, video game launcher like Heroic or Lutris which adds support to other big games like Epic games or blizzard. So yeah, welcome to the world of open-source. Linux is the future of gaming. Thanks to valve

Dude seems to forget that this is essentially a PC with a GTX 1050ti in handheld form for $400!! Then he has the nerve to say that users who bought the $400 model compared to the $650 model don't deserve an opinion, when they are literally the SAME DEVICE hardware-wise, the only thing that is different is the storage and the anti-glare screen. Now as a (somewhat) advanced Linux user, I have my own gripes with Linux and I can 100% agree with some of his complaints, because your average Steam Deck user isn't going to want to learn how to code or "sudo apt-get or pacman -S" or compile a program from its source code, just to install a web browser. Thankfully the Steam Deck comes with the majority of these programs pre-installed and most users won't have to do this.

It actually kinda serves as a "second computer" when connected to my TV as I have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse and a padded board I can put on my lap (which also helps a lot with many games). When all is said and done - I think I've gotten my money's worth many times over. Not everybody will get that kind of value from the device - and that's fine. Just because one person doesn't get their money's worth doesn't mean nobody gets their money's worth. The Steam Deck gets most of its value from playing games on Steam, so it's an entertainment device, and entertainment is subjective. Being able to emulate older systems and use it as a PC are strong value-adds, though. Hope you do well, KlutzyKing. It's been entertaining watching this series. Although maybe avoid Quantum for a bit to recover the brain cells, heh. ... typed up on my own Steam Deck using a Bluetooth keyboard.

That's exactly how I found one of his videos. I was browsing yt for steam deck content. I found a live stream and I thought "wow ! Nice ! I can participate in a live stream about the Deck". I was watching for a few minutes and he spilled hate and was super entitled. Not responding to critique. Now I know that he is a rich black guy with lots of anger and hate. And he looks down on everybody that isn't as rich as him. He simply discards all the opinion just because of that. I can tell that this guy is a bad person you don't want to be around with.

I havent bought a steam deck but I am currently doing research to find put of I should. And here is the reason I want one. I am a dad of a 1 year old, I have a family and a job with limited time to game. Having something that performs WELL and can just be picked up and put down in a matter of a minute and played on the go in my hands sounds like something that would make gaming easier for me. Of course I am not expecting ot to rival my RTX 3060 Laptop. I am buying it for a different purpose. Quantum seems to think that the main selling point of the Steam Deck is RAW power... For most people its convenience. Yes the Switch exists but some ppl want to play other types of games
@k4rnaj1k2 жыл бұрын
Tbh, the steam deck community is one of the reasons I bought it. Emudeck, wide reddit steam deck community n stuff. Yeah, steam deck has issues but anytime I needed something - there was some guide/reddit post/etc. that helped out.

Also - steam deck is great in pair with a gaming laptop/pc/etc. I don't need my rtx 3060 to play shovel knight.

I want to see quantum name a laptop that has 1tb of storage, if not more, an oled screen that’s 1080p or above, power similiar or greater to a ps4 pro, easily be able to mod, be able to play EVERY steam game, maybe even vr games, low temperatures, quiet as a guy whispering, has windows 10 or 11 AND cost 650$ or less
@ozozo123452 жыл бұрын
I have owned a gaming laptop before. It ran great, managed to get a ton of space, and it was portable for the most part, but oh my god the heat it generated was stupid. Even in a cool place, my lap or table was burning and I've had it overheat on me several times. Gaming laptops are good, but they are crazy expensive if you wanna play more recent games or ones with high requirements. Steam Deck I won't buy cause I got a good tower, but if I ever needed TF2 on the go, I'll buy it, because I know what I'm getting can be more easily re-bought if it craps out compared to a laptop

When Quantum was talking about how much harder the Steam Deck was to use than any other portable console, he was in actuality telling us that the Steam Deck is the Dark Souls of portables. Quantum is now a confirmed gaming journalist.

12:58 Wow, he genuinely went and said it. "Maybe I'm just _too_ smart guys...guys why are you laughing...guys?" And yeah sure my phone is higher resolution. I can't use it to play PC games though, unless I stream them. It also cost more than my Deck. Plus, on the subject of Elden Ring, I haven't played it myself but at least at the start, according to the LTT video when they tested Windows on the Steam Deck, the game actually ran better in Linux anyway. On the Deck.

On a 7" screen there is almost no difference between 720p and 1080p. Also, for the lower resolution and the IPS display (as opposed to OLED) you get lower power consumption, therefore a longer battery life. For a mobile device, battery life is a top spec.
@niospartan2 жыл бұрын
For a guy that "knows screens" he definitely doesnt seem to know ips is for sure not the worst screens. Ive seen some horrible tn panels, and personally use a va panel monitor that is not as nice as my wifes ips panel monitor.

Right. Among LCDs, IPS has long been considered the best way to go.

btw about paddles - some company got them patented first. And now any company making gamepads with paddles has to pay from every sale. That's part of the reason that "elite" controllers are more expensive. Afaik valve tried to say that their steam controller has something like "battery buttons" and not paddles when the patent trolls took them to court, but unfortunately valve lost and had to pay $4 millions.
@The8bitbeard2 жыл бұрын
They appealed and won, actually. The Steam Controller still died as a result though. Hope we see a Steam Controller 2 soon.

Isn't it pathetic that tech reviewers only needed to post one video about one product, unless it is necessary to post a new video that provides a more in-depth description. However, 2 videos is the maximum. Now, how many videos did Quantum post about the Steam Deck? He needs to move on

Garaa pointed out that he actually likes the steam deck and is just doing these videos for rage views, drama and clout. I’m sure I’m gonna enjoy this video, but I’m also glad that this is all over. The best way to deal with quackingducktv is to just ignore him from now on unless he is harassing you or someone else and/or causing real damage to KZbin. Let him fade back into his dark corner of obscurity.

Also, quackerstv is just trying to hook someone into causing another KZbin implosion just like with Mischief and and Actman, he basically reveals his whole plot towards the end of the video. All the more reason to just ignore him.

Remember, he doesn't do research and it was a "whimsical" purchase. Thing is, there has been hand held gaming PC devices coming out for years now. Outside of the new Aya Neo which actually does boost more more performance over the Steam Deck, it is an expensive device. The hand held gaming PC market has been largely for enthusiast and they sold at cost to make and even more with shipping. You couldn't buy one, especially at the level where Steam Deck at, for under $900. He wants to focus on cost and saying it does nothing good for the PC market? This has opened up console gamers to the PC market who otherwise wouldn't even bother. Not to mention the people who build PCs bought the 64GB model to open it up and personally upgrade it themselves at less than it cost for the 512GB model. The problem with QTV is that Valve managed to make a hand held gaming PC that was affordable for the mass market. Because it gained so much traction from the moment it was announced, he bought his AFTER Valve finally fulfilled all pre-order queue and he wants to hate farm the community after we've had the thing in our hands for 9-10 months and have made great use of it. He's basically came out with these videos in extremely bad faith.

The fact that his "reviews" are almost always more about him complaining about either what people think of him and his opinions or what he thinks about those people instead of the merits of the product the "review" is about says a lot. At this point, he might as well just go full-blown commentary. He obviously has A LOT more absolutely idiotic things to say, and I'd rather he just start saying them straight up instead hiding behind this obvious façade of being a "tech reviewer". I'm waiting for the day when the gloves come off and this man just implodes from all of the ire that everyone has for him because he'll have absolutely no one to blame for it but himself and he'll truly be the workhorse of the internet's salt mines.

The absolute highest quality that the steam decks screen should be is 1080p. Especially because how small the screen is.

Valve did not choose Linux because it's cheap and will keep the costs down, the reason is that with Linux (on AMD hardware) they have full control over the OS, what they can do with it, the features they implement, because it is open source and are not chained from some big company licenses restriction. That's why the deck become more compatible, has refined features, AND it runs more games and with more power with every system update. Thanks to the Linux open source choice, on windows we could forget all this, it would have been just a laptop with an integrated controller and big picture more on boot.

It's funny to think he was the only one who bought the most expensive Steam Deck. He is the sole owner of the premium Steam Deck. What a king!
@moister37272 жыл бұрын
Valve choose Linux mainly because flexibility. Altrough it sounds nice to carry a Windows handheld at the end of the day it's just an un-optimised version of it. Un-optimised in a sense it has all the desktop, service and stuff people don't really need in a handheld. The price is another thing, it would cost a lot more if it included Windows and Valve wouldn't have nearly the amount of control in a OS sense if it had Windows over it. Linux can only go up in this sense, only keep improving.
