Yep, caves carved into silt/dust, the softest rock imaginable and still be called that, 'stabilized' by an eggshell layer of only a few millimeters of concrete 'strengthened' by straw? Then above that, several tons more of the same, then build heavy brick structures on top of that? I'm thinking the entire hillside will collapse with how the caves have weakened it, and those apartments will be down with the livestock, collapsed under the tons of silt currently above them.

I think a housing crash will happen because all those people who bought homes over asking price, although it was at a low interest rate, they are over their heads. They have no equity if the housing prices continue to go down, and if for whatever reason they cannot afford the house anymore and it goes into foreclosure because even if they try to sell, they will not make any money. I think this will happen to a lot of people especially with the massive layoff predicted for the future and the cost of living rising at a high speed.

Wow! One of the most interesting natural home builds I've seen. I can see the remainder of the "roof" covered in low-growing perennials (clover and such) for a green roof. I don't suppose that a leaky roof would EVER be a problem! Very impressive!

Yea, I’m pretty much blown away by this. It’s such a labor intensive project and the masonry going on is substantial for the amount of workers I see. I don’t know what sort of extraordinary kind of residential building projects American builders may have going on but I’m guessing it’s probably not as ambitious as this. Somebody let me know if I’m wrong. The Chinese are not afraid of hard work that’s obvious to me.

I would be worried about heavy rain and land slides burying my home. Hopefully they plant good deep rooting ground cover around the edges and sides of the hills for strengthening the resistance of the dirt against landslides.

And heavy rain could saturate ground, making it 2-3x heavier while arch structure might not collapse it will atleast leak, and landslide is prolapse. Personally I feel there is not enough structural support in created artificial Hill in and outside

Was there a geological study done before this project started? It looks like the dirt of the mountains is very loose,the reinforcement that were being used are not strong enough to fight again erosion. Besides what is the point to spend so much money and effort to build such structure in the middle of nowhere?

I think this is pretty awesome and it may not be perfect by todays standards but people used to live in far less sound structures of all kinds for thousands of years. Proper building by American standards are largely over regulated set of rules and I’m no expert but it’s just a way to soak someone for an extra buck. Naysayers are addicted to their negativity. It gets old.

I really like the idea and the place looks beautiful. But Im a little concerned about the static stability of these caves. The one thin layer of bricks will carry the complete weight of the whole sand dune above it. Not only the sand directly above but also that from the hill further inwards, which presses outwards. I probably wouldnt put a foot in there, as beautiful as it is. Also: Who will live there? It seems to me that there is nothing around, no option to shop, to buy tools etc. Where do thex get their energy from? If it is really such an ecologic project, why dont they add solar panels to make it really self sufficient and let it produce environmental friendly energy? Do these bathrooms have running water? I saw no piping being built. I don't know, it looks like a potemkin village to me. In China there is a huge building boom, where houses are only built to invest money but they fall apart after a few years because they are built with cheap materials. Probably they froze the land in order to built. There are engineers and arquitets in this project. The construction technology are far ahead of what you amateur think. I remember a traffic tunnel was constructed in my city, they make inside the mountain, because the land was soft sand, prone to landslide, they froze the mountains in order to build it, it been more 30 years. Imagine now.

Я не строитель, но глядя как кирпичную кладку делают без основания в виде фундамента, кладку с неполным заполнением раствором, своды без укрепления, крышу из странного покрытия, которое легко сдует ветром, подумала, что жить в этой "пещере" крайне опасно. Ошибаюсь?
