You can very easily get to a point in your life where the worry and the amount of energy it takes to deal with things in your life becomes a bit much. Hiring people is not always the answer. Because you have to worry about them and deal with them and maybe getting around in that big house just walking constantly is a bit much. When you get in your 70s life can be challenging and being in a place a little more manageable can be a big blessing. Her other home is not small In fact it is quite roomy spacious and delightful without all that land to worry about. Maybe in a few years you might feel different. Bigger is not always better and again there comes a time when cozy is wonderful. 😁👍

Today is my mommas 90th Birthday. I feel so blessed to still have her with me. She always worked outside the home and she was a total pro putting great meals on the table with her Pressure Cooker. I've been pressure cooking for 50 years, never had one explode on me. If you follow directions, that doesn't happen. Now, all the pressure cookers are made with safety valves, so there's nothing to be scared of. I do my Boston butt with sauerkraut and potatoes, a nice winter meal, lots of onions and garlic. I couldn't live without my pressure cooker, yet for years I couldn't convince anybody to use one, they were so scared of it exploding. It just doesn't happen. I forgot my cooker one time, on the stove years and years ago, and all that happened is that all the steam dissipated, and the roast burned to the bottom of the pot. My very favorite Paula Deen Recipe is your Orange Brownies. I could eat those every day, 3 times a day !! When I bake for others, that's my most requested recipe too. Thank you for many years of totally excellent recipes... btw, Mr Salters Peanut Butter Pie comes in a close second.

My husband and I have been married 38 years, and 4 years ago we “downsized” by selling our big two story house we lived in for 30 years and raised our children in. We built a one story house with walk in showers and rails so we can “age in place”. We are very happy, but Lordy, that was a job going through all the stuff you accrue over 38 years! 73 in Alabama says downsizing was the best thing I ever did. I am on a walker. Sciatic left leg, need 2 knee replacements, Type two diabetes, Vision going to just name a few haha! A big house is a big responsibility! I have a small sweet apartment with one of my sons and it's just right for us. Needed the big two-story house when I was raising 3 boys but not now! I got your big pressure cooker couple years ago (I wanted the blue to go with all my other PD blue items but all that was available was the brown - seeing yours made me think about that...) Anyway, years ago, using my mother's pressure cooker I was cooking peas. Followed directions and mom's instructions. I, too, would not let my children come around when that thing was jiggling. It blew up! Lid went into ceiling and peas were EVERYWHERE. Somehow they even went into the hallway. Several years later when I moved and pulled out the frig, there were green peas embedded in the wall behind it. I do love the new safe pressure cookers and have both your small one and large one - I never know when I'm cooking for 5 or 10. Love your videos - keep 'em coming. Minimalism is looking amazing on you. Enjoy your next chapter.

The barrels the pork went into were called butts. This particular shoulder cut became known around the country as a New England specialty, and hence it became the "Boston butt." 😊

Oh Paula....did you bring back memories. My mama got her first pressure cooker when I was preschool back in 1955. Before she got the hang of it, we would peek around the kitchen door and watch as the rocker thing started shaking. I remember beans exploding onto the kitchen ceiling and once, chicken noodle soup!!! She finally got the "hang" of it and became a professional...haha, but I remember her first experiments!!!

Tip: if you cut the butt in half or quarters, it will easily cut 30 minutes off the cooking time. If you're going to shred it anyway, you'll never know the difference.

HA! I've been using Liquid Smoke for decades. It just makes everything taste better. We do have a smoker but when you just want to cook something inside without all the work of using the smoker, LS is just the thing. It makes vegetables taste great too.

Cook your Boston Butt with about a cup of water in the pan covered loosely with foul in the oven for about 1 1/2 hours then dump 2 large jars of Silver Floss Sauerkraut (the best) over the top juice and all and put it back in the oven for about 40 minutes more without foil. In the meantime make some homemade mashed potatoes leaving bits of potatoes in there (that's why I use a hand held masher instead of an electric mixer). Add butter salt, cracked black pepper, and sour cream to the potatoes. THEN... plate up the bed of mashed potatoes and top them with the pork and sauerkraut! You will love this and so will your family or guests. Love and best dishes...much more...Blessings in Christ always! ❤️

My husband and I are downsizing as well. We are tired of the upkeep and to honest feeling like a motel 6 to anyone who comes to our state, because we're not from here originally. I love my electric pressure cooker. It never gets put away because it gets used so much. A stovetop unit will cook in less time because they operate at greater pressure, but the electric units are FAR safer since they're electronically controlled and will only start if the lid is on properly.

I remember as a child. The pressure cooker top doing a shimmy dance on the stovetop. My mother telling me to move away from it. Then it went into the kitchen sink. Great memories
