That was so good, thoroughly enjoyed it. Knew a fella here in Australia who went over and trained years ago at the WCF. I did some training with him in his forge in Beechworth. Have always been interested in farriering, did it for a few years. A lot involved that's for sure.

Thank you for this tip, I’ve used your technique with the folded fibre today but for a medial wall stability so much easier keep them coming 😀

Just a hint to avoid bacteria under the patch ...cut a strip off a drink straw ( cut long enough to be able to pull once glue has dried) and place it under patch... now you can treat daily/or even every other day and avoid bacteria...or enpragnaite glue with copper sulfate to avoid bacteria

Pretty level steps. Looks like you have hit a few nails in the past. I am always amazed on how many nail hole options the shoes in Europe compared to ours.

This would be a great case for form a foot.

Love your video. Very informative. You mentioned bacteria in the crack after applying the patch. Some farriers have suggested mixing a sulfur based powder medication in the adhesive to prevent the bacteria. What is your opinion on this?

Yvonne Fino Where there is no obvious infection, I have found that just cleaning gives 95% security from infections. I always warn the owner.

Would be nice to see how glue repair makes any differance ....to the quarter crack?? And the off the shelf fit where it touch heart bar comes into play with out glue making the difference ....and no doubt the same exact off the shelf shoe go's on the other foot ?? Still saves time fitting anything......wedge is good though !!

I noticed that his heel dropped right down and his hoof is like a duckbill in shape. Is this due to the damage on the heels by the poultice?
@rosemarybasse54983 жыл бұрын
It's called a "down" foot (low heeled long toed), and is the most common type of foot with quarter cracks. The type of hoof structure a horse has is primarily due to the genetics of the foot, though shoeing can make the problem worse if done wrong. The most that can generally be done for down feet like this is bringing the toe and flares back consistently, avoiding crushing the heels further, and pads for the hoof pastern angle.

Would using a drain behind the patch reduce or eliminate the chance of infection?
@DrSimonCurtis4 жыл бұрын
I would only put in a drain in cases where there was infection or exposed tissue.

Does that Hurt your horse?

MilenaHorseGirl Gamski The main principle of the work is to remove pain. This crack was hurting the horse. After treatment it returned to full exercise.
