This brute has enough power to compete with humbuckers and hot P-90s. The stronger magnetic field of the quarter-inch diameter pole pieces increases the output and allows use of a special coil winding. It keeps the high-end definition for great treble bite and a full, powerful midrange. It's especially useful for overdriven tones. The STR-3 rhythm pickup matches the lead model in tone and output, but uses 3/16 pole pieces and comes with a chrome-plated brass cover.

I fall more and more in love with the sound of the Tele everyday! The whole look and shape is light years ahead in design. It's the universal guitar. I was a strat and humbucker man for 25 years but only got a Tele 2 years ago but I wished I'd turned on the Tele a long time ago!

I think we're cut from similar cloth. My love affair with the Telecaster is going on seven years now and gets worse every day. Worse for my humbucker-equipped guitars and Strat, that is. ;)

Years ago, based on this great demo I bought a pair of QP's, the tapped versions. They didn't sound anything like this. They had none of that Tele twang & clarity that he's getting here, they were more like humbuckers, almost like Little 59s. When tapped they were the opposite - too thin, like split humbuckers without character. This was the same with two different Teles and various amps. Returned them quickly. Then I bought another new bridge QP a couple years ago after being told they were tapped differently - no difference. Good pickups if all you want is overdrive, not so great at classic Tele tones.

For my tastes, the Quarter Pounder is the Telecaster equivalent of the JB. The most well-rounded pickup that Seymour Duncan makes. It is both mellow & kinda twangy when it's on a clean amp setting, but it turns into a brute force when the gain is cranked. This and the JB are my all-time favourite pickups.

I'm a certified guitar tech many yrs. and a real fan of SD pickups-the ones I recommend the most and use myself-that being said we must all remember that a lot of the sound comes from the gentleman's hands that are demoing the pups! I would just like to say Kudos to him and wonder if perhaps I got the same tats, and SD's in my tele if I would sound as good as he does with that gorgeous tone from the SD's....you hear a different percentage of people all over the planet saying 90% , or 50% or whatever is in the hands of the player-I agree-I don't know the percentage I just know if you have great pickups, and the "touch" you'll be as awesome as he is....Thanks for a great video and pups!

This one is easily the best demo of the Quarter Pound pickups on KZbin. I have a Strat with a full set of the Quarter Pounds that I love. The best thing about these pickups is that, although they are a "hot" pickup, they still retain the strat and tele character much better than some of the single-coil-sized humbuckers. Now I just need another one of the "tapped" Quarter Pound bridge pickups for my tele. :-)

I think I would like these pickups very much. Just enough clarity on the bridge pickup for chime for some Country, and enough body and warmth in the neck pickup for Jazz. A guitar and/or set of pickups that can sound good in Country or Jazz is the kind of guitar and/or pickups that are very useful for me. Great demo, thanks.

Fab sound that would be great to be able to emulate; Rodney, please could you say one or two details about the guitar you're using - which model is it? What amp/etc are you playing through on the recording? I'm on the verge of buying a Mexican Standard with the six bridge saddles and considering these pickups as possible replacements for the stock ones. I use a Keeley compressor with my Strat and would probably want to use it for the Tele. I'm not a Tele purist, but this sounds brilliant.

I’m purchasing a set for my Affinity, although the stock pickups, for such an inexpensive guitar, sound amazingly very good and crisp like the classic Broadcaster pickups. I was genuinely surprised. The only drawback really, was that while the sound was on the money, they were kinda weak, as opposed to the ones here, maybe it’s a depth of tone thing. And obviously they’re cheaper pickups, but that doesn’t always mean crap. It’s just that there’s usually always something better, in electronics and in life, in general. I can’t wait to get ahold of a set of these bad boys. I just ordered the Fender Custom Shop Twisted Tele pickups for my very first actual Fender guitar. It’s a Fender Standard Limited Edition Standard Telecaster Plus Top Cherry Burst. Bucket list item #5? Check.
