I have an Audi, and even I can tell this video was made to troll BMW and Mercedes fan boys. Without knowing what quality tires are on each car, and the driver competency, there's no way to judge the "fairness" of these comparisons. That said, I live on the east coast of Canada and we need to endure some absolutely brutal snow and ice storms. I am wise enough to only use competent season dedicated tires on my cars and my Audi is a beast in winter and summer. This video was fun and received a like from me. Keep up the good work!

No doubt Audi quattro is the best "commercial" 4WD, second to none. 4matic is also very good, but xDrive is the crappiest 4WD out there. The transfer of weight is just unbalanced. And they pretend that X3 or X5 are all-rounders... I am Italian, when I was a soldier on the mountains, we used to drive Fiat Panda 4WD. Unbelievably good on the snow. Unstoppable.

You can tell that the Quattro system simply behaves more appropriately than any other system. Quattro can push 100% of the torque to an individual wheel if needed. It instantaneously moves torque to whichever wheel is actually getting the most grip. It’s simply a superior design to other so called “awd” systems. It’s probably more apt to call the other systems “dual axel” drive.

My grievances with all Mercs I have owned, starting from the 2008 280 CDI, 2015 250 CDI and 2021 GLE 300D is lack of steering feel and squeaky clutches and brake pad sounds and also transmission issues. With Audi (2011 A4 and 2022 Q5) I have faced the least problems. Current BMW 630i GT MSport is probably the best beemer I have owned till date. Definitely better than the 3.0L 2007 525D which was a beast, no doubt.

i have a F40 xdrive and can confirm, it is better than i thought in snow and icy roads. in wet snow and mud it has the limitation of a non mechanical awd. but with street tires it does its job on the road very good. Audi has also quit the mechanical quattro in the lower series, they call it now quattro plus, which is a haldex type bullshit also.

@@pistonburner6448 now, never. Just watch some roller tests. It is not able to put the power full on one axle, far away to put it one one wheel alone which has grip. Only a full symmetric hardware.system like Subaru and a few others can handle this. The new Series 1, 2 grand coupe BMW have front driven based awd systems, not like 3 series. The BMW commercial with the clown showing the full independent awd system is just a joke. The real story: in a situation where you need at most the awd system it will quit because of overheat it the Haldex Type system. Shows not available in display. I drove Subaru Forester and Mercedes‘ G wagon at military. Thre is Almost no competition anymore to these systems.

@@pistonburner6448 that does not matter in a mechanical awd system. there is no font or rear based something benefit. all axels can get the same power. with haldex types you can just use 50% maximum power, because you dont have a diverter gear box. Verteilergetriebe is the name in german. on some rare machanical systems even one wheel can get 100% power, if it has grip which is impossible with haldex systems. haldex is ok for strret use. in snow or slush, sand etc. there is end of use case for it.

X drive is the worst of the three by far. Drive a BMW at 20 kmh in snow on a flat surface and turn right without accelerating or braking. The BMW will understeer straight ahead because the front axle is passive and will not engage until the rear wheels spin. You have to decide - do I hit the gas to get the RWD to spin and hope the front engages and pulls me out of the understeer or do I brake before hitting the parked cars? Quattro and 4Matic will pull the front end through the turn as they are real time AWD. I think that is why every BMW commercial shows the car wide open spinning in snow because breaking the RWD loose is the only way to get the front wheels to spin in the shot. I even crashed the XDrive simulator at BMW headquarters in Munch (the technician thought it was impossible). We had 2 Quattros, 1 4Matic and 1 XDrive all with similar winter tires. The BMW was fun but horrible in snow. If I would buy another, it would be RWD as the XDrive adds weight with minimal benefit.

@@cocoworldwideoriginal998 No. BMW is 99% RWD with passive front AWD. On a slippery surface, start turn while maintaining speed, front wheels do not fully track and start sliding (understeer). You do not have to be spinning or braking to start sliding - just changing direction at a constant speed. While already sliding, you have to hit the gas to get the back wheels to spin before the front gets power and starts pulling in the direction of the steer. You usually do not have room to do this as you are approaching a curb, parked car, or ditch so you typically stop, back up, and swear at the X Drive

I think there is a big difference between 4 wheel drive & full-time-all wheel drive. I owned Quattro system before & now I drive X-drive. I find X-Drive not as reactive to slippage of wheel. there is a bit of delay between it detects the slip & trying to kick more power to the wheel. and you already lost momentum/energy to climb up. for inexperienced drivers, they can feel like if they are losing control. Not saying it's worse than the other, but I feel like Quattro would make you feeling much safer & in control. but it's just me. what do I know?... ;) I don't have much experience on 4MATIC. I'm sure it's fine.

I can confirm quattro is above others 4wd systems. Trust me I had bmw 335xd, sq5, q3 quattro tdi, a4 quattro, tiguan 4 motion. I like bmw but My bmw 335xd on snow was a little bit sliding unfortunately. Quattro is very safe in snow, and I live close to the mountain to test it!

I owned a 330xi, the xdrive is fantastic. Have also driven Quattro, those are pretty similar as well, but I still give the edge to the xdrive system. Currently own an Infinity FX35 AWD with infinitys ATTESA system, seems pretty capable so far, haven't had enough time with it to really test it yet tho

4matic is rear biasd quattro is front biased. In somecases it helps but realistically on paved surfaces where most users would use, quattro is overkill with much better quality of ride in 4matic.

@@sundeepkalla8716 Having recently test drove some new mercedes, and Audi's, the idea that 4Matic provides a "much better quality of ride" is bullshit. Quattro simply performs better, and in my experience Quattro has felt better and more comfortable than equivalent Mercedes models. Theres a reason why people are starting to tune and mod the r8 platform(as well as RS3's and RS6's) more and more these days but you dont see people doing the same with any Mercedes platform, and thats because those Audi platforms are incredibly good are handling power and putting it down reliably. That isnt to say that something like Mercedes' AMG cars dont handle very well, but Audi's simply do it better...not sure how youre going to get a better "quality of ride" than in Audi Quattro's.
