Excellent advice, you are the cichlid rock star lol. Fell in love with Mbunas and my local fish store in Tennessee told me to watch your vids and from starting my 75g tank to now happy fish and have not lost any and perfect water parameters all from your advice!! My brother in New York also started a Mabuna tank and his local fish store mentioned your channel! You are the best and thank you!!

Hello. I don't usually comment, but I wanted to say thank you for all the information you provide us fish keepers. I recently acquired a couple of African cichlids from the local pet store where I live. I was thinking of adding rock to my aquarium, but they're quite expensive and I am wondering how nessecary it Is to have rocks to match their nature habitat. I heard fish sold in stores are usually bred in large fish farms and are not accustomed to where they come from naturally. Is it still better to try to mimic their natural environment if they were not born into it? Also my next question is water conditions. I was told by the petsmart that their wall of aquariums are run on the same water system where they have tropical fish and Bala sharks and african cichlids all running with the same water. With watching a ton of videos it seems cichlids need a different water than tropical, but the fish at the store all share the same water conditions. Now I added the cichlid substrate to my aquarium to raise the Ph and they appear to be acting and living well, but do I need to change anything else to my water to give them a lasting life? Thanks again from Rhode Island 🇺🇸 😁

Yes I just fell in love with some honeycomb limestone advertising as being for a cichlid tank, which led me here. I had no idea it was the best but it sure is pretty. I hope it's okay for a regular freshwater tank. I just want an aquascape and a betta. I think it would pair nice with the manzanita wood I got. I hope it's safe for bettas, I hear they need smooth rocks... I do plan to bury it in the soil for a nature scape however, so I'm thinking it might be okay.

Hi, what is the rock that’s grey you said did not have much buffering as Florida rocks but it’s as good? Is it seiryu rock? Thanks!!
@QuebecCichlides3 жыл бұрын
It’s Seiryu 😊
@acarapurple60272 жыл бұрын
I don't recomend Marine Rocks for AC, as it usually hurts their mouth as they chew it. I use ordinary river rocks, and control the PH and other parameters with the buffer. Great scaping though.

Hey beautiful! New sub here, wish you lived closer to texas ♥️ LOL anyway i have the Faux universal rocks for my Mbuna. But my question here today is, what about adding MORE Caribsea substrate to the bottom of the tank? Ive had the tank set up for 5 years and ive lost a little sand over the years from cleaning etc and i want a deeper sand bed, any advice on adding sand on top of what i have now would be helpful! 😍
@QuebecCichlides3 жыл бұрын
Great question. I should make a video about this, I get asked it a lot No problem adding sand, just close your filter when you do it to avoid breaking it with the floating debris

I had the texas dry rock that I’ve had in my salt water aquarium for 3 yrs. I just tore my aquarium down to change over to peacock cichlids. I bleached the rock and am in the process of rising it then will let it dry. Will this help my PS or did I ruin it by using bleaching should I have used vinegar?
@tracy59192 жыл бұрын
Is flordia rock and using crushed coral to much ?? Will it cause ph to be to high?
@jeffharris45583 жыл бұрын
Interesting, whether the rocks used lower the PH would depend on the existing PH of the water, if your water was acidic then yes it would as the acid would dissolve the alkaline rock until PH was neutral, if your PH was 7.0 then it wouldn’t make much difference. I use several types, mostly large Limestone rock, not to lower the PH as my water PH is already 7.8 but to try and achieve a natural Malawi look. I’d avoid Ocean rock (rocks with small holes) I’ve heard far too many stories of fish getting stuck in them and dying and there are no coral reefs in Lake Malawi so they aren’t exactly natural looking. 🙂
@ManicMindTrick2 жыл бұрын
Rocks with lots of small holes acts as a great shelter for fry so you get more fish up to adult size from my experience.
