Nasa Star 2 pro depower bar

A look at the Pro Depower bar setup for the Born-kite Nasa Star 2. I've attached the conversion kit to a spare bar and lines I already had. The pro depower setup divides the two power lines of the Nasa Star 2 into 4 lines, enabling the depower line to be pulled when letting out or releasing the bar. You can fly with the bar 'free' using the depower on the fly, or you can attach the bar to your chicken loop and use the depower function to completely depower the kite when needed (which is how I run it). A slightly unusual, but very effective way of managing the depower function on the Nasa Star 2.
I have been running the standard three line/trapeze setup on the NS2's, but I think this setup is much, much better and really easy to use. In fact, I'd go as far as saying that this is the easiest, safest system of any of my kites which include Ozone Access/HQ Apex/Methods/Flows/Octane & Turbo bars.

Hello, my name is Renato, I live in Brazil. I'm a kite lover and I just built a 4m² nasa kite. I was very interested in this depower system for your bar because it was very similar to a conventional kitesurf bar. I've seen the video many times to try to understand how you made the halter system with the pulleys near the kite, but I can't understand it. Would you have this scheme designed to send me to try to reproduce? Thank you.

Hi Renato, Steffen Born from Born Kites in Germany made the kite and the depower system for his Nasa Star 2's - he has all the diagrams for it. I am not sure that it will work on a normal Nasa Kite. While it does work well, I found myself going back to the std three line bar - it's absolutely simple to use and I can still release to the center line to completely depower the kite if necessary. The Nasa's are not very good to fly slightly depowered (unlike a normal depower kite which is fine) so I fly my nasa's either fully powered, or completely depowered in case of emergency - which I've only needed to do on a couple of occasions.

Hey There, really great insight into the Nasa Star 2 products. I am thinking about getting one and trying to decide on the "Pro Depower" setup or just the standard 3 line. I am leaning towards the "Pro Depower". Are you still using the "Pro Depower" or did you go back to the 3 line? Thanks!

I think the Pro Depower bar is superior in every way (except simplicity) to the std 3 line setup and I can't see myself going back to the std 3 line bar and trapeze. Having the safety at your thumb is brilliant and sharing the load between center and bar ends makes it less likely to snap the bar (which I've seen done). The pro depower bar is a bit more complex to setup at first (had me scratching my head and reaching for the diagram) but is really worth it.

quedecree One more question...Would it be pretty tiresome to buggy/board with the bar safety released? I know the power is spread 50/50. I'd really like to be able to depower in an instant by just pushing the bar out without having to release and engage the safety over and over. Thanks Again!

Shane Rosenauer I don't think it would be too tiring to buggy with the safety released - certainly less tiring than using handles without a strop. I have rarely had to use the release, and the one on this bar is so quick to use that it's really no problem at all. Cheers - J
