While I agree with you, it is also true that it's because their critique of him being too theatrical was what made him realize that he needed to work on making songs internal. And with that skill picked up, he's been even better since going pro.

Compare what he was like before to what he was now, it's totally different. His first few singles bombed, he was in the news for all the wrong reasons, because he WAS too theatrical. Simon never said to NOT be theatrical, but that it was too much. And he was right. Adam in the end, knew he was right and he tailored it to perfection. The amount of theatrical he puts into his shows now is perfect. Simon wasn't wrong, people just like to shit on him because they can't see it in the long run.

Adam doesn't sound exactly like Freddie they both have/had beautiful voices and are super theatrical. Freddie had a voice that was made for rock n roll...he hit the highs..slithered down to the lows and they were all clean sounding. I love Adam Lambert, love his way of putting his personal touch on Queen songs. He is super respectful, no ego, sings Queen songs better than anyone else...period. No wonder he was chosen.
