Right now the North Carolina Maritime Museum in Beaufort, NC is displaying relics excavated from the final resting place of Blackbeard's ship, Queen Anne's Revenge. This feature will give you a taste of what can be seen in the exhibit, with commentary from the museum's maritime curator, Paul Fontenoy. When you think about it... 300 years ago isn't that long ago, and people lived like that

I heard many times from professors and books that the Queen Anne's Revenge name is possibility referred to Anne Boleyn's death even though that happened in 1536. Because it was believed that Blackbeard was beheaded by the Maynards in the last battle and his severed head hung from their bowsprit. But that wasn't the case. Years before Blackbeards fall, he was in battle with other pirates who thought they had beheaded Blackbeard but it wasn't him, it had been one of his crew members who looked and dressed like him to confuse their enemies. So when he attained his ship, that past battle situation made him think of the story of the british queen who was beheaded for high treason. And Queen Anne's Revenge name was born.

Its thought to possibly have been due to the fact that blackbeard was thought to have served in the Royal navy during Queen Annes war hence why he named his ship after the war, Queen Anne's revenge but I guess we will never know

It was called the queen Anne's revenge as the privateers who thought for the British empire in the queen Anne's war for land in the caribbean felt like they had been betrayed by the king as he outlawed privateering when the war came to an end and made a truce with the Spanish king and as a result of that most of the ex privateers couldn't find work anywhere so they all resorted to piracy and it's because of these events why Blackbeard called the ship the queen Anne's revenge as he planned to terrorise the British empire with the ship

Fun fact; that pirate flag is NOT Blackbeard’s. It was created back in 1912 by someone trying to cash in on the famous pirate’s legend.

Who owns the ship? French ship, sailed by a British, but sank in America. Has there been an issue over ownership?

He actually lived out a large portion of his adult life in North Carolina. The city of Bath is where he had a home. His marriage was presided over by the governor of North Carolina - Governor Eden.
