Obviously the message of this video isn’t “you have no right to analyzation or criticism!” It’s that you shouldn’t ALWAYS do it. Coming from someone who overanalyzes everything, you are doing yourself a legit injustice by over analyzing every Kpop song you listen too.

I dunno tbh. My enjoyment of Catallena massively increased as I started to overanalyze it. Something being silly or dumb doesn't mean it isn't deep. Personally, I like to phrase the sentiment as "analyze things for what they are, not what you want them to be." If you analyze Catallena from the perspective of 4th gen girl crush, it's a terrible song. But it's not trying to be 4th gen girl crush -- it's trying to be kitschy princess disco. And if you analyze it as kitschy princess disco, it's absolutely genius. I think you can apply the same thing to Zero. If you want to analyze it as a regular kpop song, it's awful. But Zero isn't a regular kpop song; it's a Coke ad. And it's literally the best Coke ad I've ever seen. As for Queen Card, I loved it from the first watch. Maybe it's because I've been spending a lot of time lately thinking about Catallena and Zero, but to me it's great. I love the sound and the lyrics and I think the MV looks good and is fun. And what more do you need from a kpop song than a good sound and a fun MV?

@@LaurenPebble The point of my comment was that analyzing a song, for me personally, usually helps me enjoy the song more. I haven't had nearly enough time to really understand Queencard, but I enjoyed it a lot on the first listen. All I can tell you right now is that I liked the sound and the MV. I expect that, if I spend the time to analyze the song, I'll enjoy it more. I don't think it's fair to judge every kpop song by its sound and its MV. But I also don't think it's fair to expect people to have deep analytical opinions about a song 48 hours after it's released.

@@KoreanMungBeanSproutSalad yes, is fair to overanalyze things just for fun. The problem is that people is complaining because the song is so cringy that they can't/want to overanalize it. If something is not too deep for you just ignore it, don't send hate to the group of treat it like a flop just because is not for you. In that case overanalyze is not funny, is an unhealthy obsetion that doesn't let you enjoy the simple things.

What I personally love so much about the song is that it’s just a bit of fun and shows that women can be silly and unserious AND still have something important to say. The song is about self-confidence and women loving themselves just the way they are. I love how Soyeon and Idle embraces, celebrates AND critiques the realities of womanhood. It feels more personal and less performative. The “I feel you” at the end of the Queencard music video was powerful. Soyeon understands so deeply all aspects of girlhood/womanhood. Queencard was about showing that girlhood can be fun! Women shouldn’t have to be insecure in themselves because we’re beautiful the way we are. Sometimes we just want to let our hair down and have some fun and there shouldn’t be anything wrong with that. It’s just so feminine and oddly relatable and this is what SOOOO many other girl groups struggle to do. Another thing to mention is that boy groups tend to get away with being corny, silly and sometimes bad yet women ALWAYS have to get it right and never miss. There’s this extremely high standard that women are held to in the industry while men get away with the bare minimum. The way that people are reacting towards Queencard vs how they react to boy groups/male artist with questionable music is very telling of how engrained these double standards are. Like god forbid a girl sings about twerking on the runway (relatable) but it’s totally fine for a guy to sing about 2 baddies in his Porsche (???)

@@vixxexo6855 it does have a meaning, and it’s self love. You need to watch Allergy first. It’s a storyline, which is such a surprise because storylines have been dead for a long time now. Every member seems to have the best life, but in reality each of them has an insecurity, a negative thing in their lives. Soyeon for example, she’s the main character and she’s looking at other people at social media having the best life, we see that she’s about to get surgery when in the end she wakes up, and sees that everyone accepts and supports her, just by being her, she realised she’s pretty either way and does not need surgeries to cover it up. Miyeon is like a celebrity/social media influencer, we see that she’s rich and that but her boyfriend seems to have cheated on her with/left her for Minnie, and she’s sad. Minnie is a sport influencer and she looks super healthy and sociable but in reality she’s lonely, even if she snatched Miyeon’s boyfriend. They went from “she’s so pretty I want to be her, why am I not her?” (Allergy) to “yes I’m hot I don’t need them I realised my worth skinny or fat I’m pretty either way” (Queencard) = Self love. It also shows us to not believe everything a person in social media posts. They seem to be living the y/n life when in reality they’re not, they’re struggling. Tomboy, Nxde, and Queencard have meanings. Soyeon experienced these type of situations pd101 and unpretty rap star. Everyone called her ugly. She’s been calling out the industry saying that everyone prefers visuals over talents and she’s not wrong. In the end of allergy you see they say “I feel ____ I feel ___ I feel ____ I feel you.” People have probably been in these situations before, not loving yourself. They’re here to tell you they know what it’s like and that you’re not alone, you’ll get through this because you’re a queencard. If you don’t know “kwinka” is a Korean slang to say “a hot person.” It came from the movie Mean Girls since in Korean the movie translated to “how to be a kwinka” if I’m not wrong. That’s where the word queencard comes from. With the queen card lyrics you can tell they’re just having fun. Can they not have fun??? When you feel yourself I’m sure you said some weird things too, you’re having fun. There’s English songs and Spanish songs that make no sense whatsoever but it’s so catchy that it sticks to your brain, the same goes for K-pop songs, like cat & dog by txt or tinnitus, they’re literally talking about wanting to be a rock. Or even O.O by nmixx.

(G)I-DLE take on issues no one else will touch, and they won't do it in the obvious way - that is writing a sorrowful ballad that no one will listen to. They'll do it in a clever way because that's more interesting. I can't believe I'm going to explain the movie, especially since it's so obvious, but here we are. On the outside things can seem fun and happy online, but those people behind the screen are putting up a front. Allergy is about the issue, Queencard is about overcoming it. The songs/MVs are facades for the overall meaning, which mirrors the struggles on social media. THAT"S the movie. That's Mean Girls: talking about something important in the guise of comedy. Not sure why that's so hard to grasp, but people are filming whole ass essays about Soyeon making light of a serious issue while not getting the point.

Its so sad to me that with time, we have kind of lost the fun and lighthearted feeling that kpop had, the fans have been so hard on it that it's STRICTLY FORCED for a group to have a song that has a deep meaning a deep mv and be so serious, we just want to have fun too! Damn it makes me feel like fans have become Netflix trying to make something that was originally lighthearted into something so dark and obligatory serious

Honestly? People have been negative about kpop in general in 2023. Nothing seems to be good enough. Unforgiven isn’t like antifragile so It’s bad, Spicy isn’t as hyperpop and electronical and serious as any of aespa’s other title Tracks so It must mean aespa lost their identity… even tho it’s a SUMMER comeback and the girls said they would go back to kwanga. Flower is basic, Sugar rush ride is weird, queencard isnt serious enough… I’m not saying you have to like everything that comes out of kpop, I certainly don’t I usually only like 2-3 songs each albums because i’m picky with music. But the thing is nothing seems good enough these days and groups can’t seem to breathe without people screaming they’ve « lost their identity » or « have a decline » like calm down people it’s just music 😭

I believe the overall message of Allergy and Queencard is serious but paskaged in a very quirky and fun way. I personally love them. Allergy is a 9/10 for me and Queencard is growing. listen, i am a neverland and even I had a few doubts about queencard when it first came out but now I can confidently say that this song is total soty material. 1) it is just so fucking catchy and addicting 2) the members seem to be having the time of their lives while on promotion 3) STYLIST ATE and most importantly I realized how important this song is for soyeon. She has been criticized for not being pretty enough basically her whole musical life and this is just her displaying her TRUE emotions. no one can be not scarred by those comments especially someone as young as her who had an immense talent but was told to quit it because she didn't fit those stupid standards. i feel like the camp, bright vibe is just significant of her healing her inner child while helping others to feel good about themselves. the fact that idle are so involved in their music instantly makes their music VERY unique and powerful because you know the artists themselves resonate with the music as much as the audience does. in conclusion, you are either a hot boob and booty bitch or not. you decide.

8:43 ! THIS! I really like how you pointed this out. I've seen a lot of people saying that lyrics are cringey or even "bad grammar". The thing about creating poetic/literary compositions is that it does not technically need to uplift itself by having excellent grammar. Grammar is not necessary when writing poetic lyrics or generic lyrics, like, it does not matter, as the writer can convey a message that is clear or not. This goes on with people being comfortable with their own comfort. People nowadays tend to make art as "OBJECTIVE" rather than being "SUBJECTIVE". Art is beauty and is depending on how one sees beauty, which basically constructs the term of subjectivity. People love being assertive and aggressive with one's own opinions, perceptions, and standards that defeats the purpose of 'art' being 'subjective' creating a controversial and problematic take as they just don't think before they speak. Although, some art can be lacking for someone, it is still art since other people might find it beautiful rather than one perceiving it as ugly. Queencard being obviously a take on the mainstream pop culture of movies like White Chicks, Mean Girls, and other references, I understand that many won't get the references at all if they are not familiar with the movie. All in all, I have to agree with Queencard being a decent song, it wasn't that great and it wasn't bad either. It's catchy and quirky which just commits to the concept that was brought up by (G)-I-DLE.

There's DEFINITELY people who force themselves to like music. These people you see saying "after forcing myself to listen to the song a few times I think it's growing on me", that's people originally not liking the song and forcing themselves to listen to it until their standards drop so low that they start enjoying the song they naturally hate. Kpop music production is by default EXTREMELY SURFACE LEVEL there's almost nothing that requires more than 1 listen to grasp so if you don't like it then you don't like it, stop fighting it you're not SUPPOSED to love everything your faves release just so you can say "they queen they slay they never disappoint". Stfu, every group has a few bad songs, it's normal.

I think you maybe need to compare it to other Kpop songs then. like Queencard isn't even an American or brittish expression, it's konglish for a popular girl in school. I could make a song using Swedish English expressions and it would still be correct just not in American or brittish etc. Even if saying a boob, queencard etc is low quality lyricism its entirely dependent on what you consider that to be. Not saying you can't disagree btw, just.. something I thought about.

It’s just a funny song, but, putting on my over-analysis hat, sometimes you just have to compliment yourself in a really goofy way so it registers as a joke and you’ll accept it even if you’re not usually accustomed to saying good things about yourself. That’s what I got from it anyway. I can’t always look in the mirror and say “I’m beautiful”, but I can strike a silly pose and say “my boob and booty’s hot!” and laugh, which is certainly better than saying “ugh, I don’t look very nice”, and I can go on my way laughing instead of feeling bad

I always try to understand what was the goal of this song in the music video as well as keep in mind how do I feel about it. Even if I am not able to understand the message or what’s being portrayed within the music video, I still accept that it had its purpose, whatever its purpose must have been. Yes, for me I didn’t enjoy either one of those two songs or just all of them within their come back, but I am not going to go out and start bashing the song or the girls themselves. I simply say I didn’t enjoy it. It wasn’t something that resonated with me but I recognize that it had an appeal in the message and it reached out to those that it needed to reach out to. Keep it moving. 😊

The comparison to bad-faith movie criticisms is very apt. It’s like when people shit-talk a movie because they hate the genre. While they’re well within their rights to dislike conventions of a slasher film or romantic comedy, judging it solely on that w/o any context for its themes/message isn’t very constructive. Critiquing it on how *effective* it was at communicating its message is a whole other story, and imo Queen Card got its point across in a direct and fun way 👏🏾.

I honestly have no problem with the idea of a song being made to be a joke or to be "unserious", however, I personally just don't think that (G)I-dle did it very well. Ever since tomboy, I just haven't been able to understand their angle. I get that the cringy lyrics in this song are supposed to be the jokey part, but when I look back at the bad rap in tomboy, and even the corny lyrics of the pre-release 'Allergy', I can't tell when they are being serious or not. Like, I'm pretty sure that Allergy is supposed to be a serious, albeit lighter-hearted song for young girls about coping with the stress of idealization of social media and all that jazz, but then I listen to the title track and I'm hearing equally corny lyrics that are now being presented as a 'joke not meant to be taken seriously'. It's just confusing to me. I honestly don't think it's a matter of me 'overanalyzing' it either, I truly just think this is them missing the mark and failing to do what they were trying to do. (At least for me anyway). That being said, thank you for reading. Please don't flame me, I say all of this out of respect and I really do believe in them and want to see them improve.

It kind of reminds me of that saying that goes something like “when men are being satirical it’s funny but when women are being satirical they’re stupid”. Like, PSY is one of the current artists that makes very unserious party music for fun, and everyone knows what they’re getting into and haves fun with the comedic nature of it. But when (G)I-DLE does something unserious and states it’s for fun they’re treated like they’re stupid and have their talent discredited because it’s not as “intellectual” as their other concepts.

One of my favorite songs that do not take itself seriously is Christmas EveL. It's a Christmas song that makes fun of Christmas (and the MV is also funny and goofy as hell) and I love it because is a fun, catchy song and sunms up my general attitude towards Christmas (I like Christmas but the over exposure of it kills me) My point is that you can have fun, unserious songs that are also good songs. It depends on execution and every person threshold of how much goofiness they can like/tolerate. (If you want my quick opinion on Tomboy and Nxde, Tomboy lacks a little gritiness and some variation in terms of vocal delivery, specially a little bit more of attitude. It doesn't help that I listened to Xdinary Heroes' cover of this song before the original and imo they nailed the song better than (G)I-DLE. Love the bridge and the final chorus tho. I would like Nxde if the chorus didn't kill the song for me, which it is a shame because I do like the rest of the song. Disclaimer: this is only my opinion. feel free to disagree with me. At the end of the day, music is subjective and everyone has different tastes)

Hasn´t been the case by now and I hope that it will stay that way. I like how you brought up the term "overly analytical". Back in the day, I´ve always looked out for good writing and lyricism and vocal performance because I thought that these were that things that matter most (same for movies or...) But negativity doesn´t bring you anywhere is what I realized and if you don´t have a good time, leave it be and don´t be a dick about it on social media. Cause others will jump onto that and that just gets the snowball rolling.. Idle does have weak songs in their discography. But Queencard isn´t one of them, so go listen to it :) side note: unforgiven is just as fun as antifragile, I don´t see what people could be possibly complaining about. like where´s the logic in comparing songs that aren´t the same

I didn't like it at all at first but gosh I keep on singing it at random moments. I think it's iconic haha.

Ima be honest I liked boy tomboy and nude when they both came out it just took a couple listens but even then I wasn’t into either of the songs for like over a week and now tomboy (and I don’t even dislike the rap like it legit just goes over my head when I’m listening to it) for me is just another song while nude is still fun yk. Queen card is the same thing to me, it’s fine it’s not special I’m not obsessed but ill listen and I have listened to it more than once.

Honestly it feels like people today are treating kpop like it's some intellectual being, that only the highest of minds are meant to get. Like...it's kpop, it's supposed to be fun and not taken that seriously.

Allergy is my fav song from them to date. I relate to it so much being the ugly duckling of anywhere (or at least the english lyrics part that i can understand). Such a fun to dance song ^^

Okay, so I’m not a K-pop stan anymore. But when I heard the G(idle) song Queen Card while scrolling, honestly it caught my attention. The lyrics might seem goofy for someone, but to me it brings back the 2000s vibes as well as the portrait of what girl/women is. The image of women is being destroyed right now with all the gender issues. Listening to their song gives me lots of positive feelings, great vibes, and even confidence. I don’t even know why people need to analyze music? It was made for enjoyment, not scientific research. Compare to other songs different industries release, this one has lot more sense and message then songs about sex, drugs, and cheating. So just enjoy it! Great video by the way ❤

see, but the thing is, songs can be lighthearted and also be well produced/have normal fun non-cringe lyrics though. it's a fair complaint. especially because it's not just the concept of this song, several g-idle songs in these past few comebacks have had the same cringe lyricism issue. as for the other songs you've mentioned, teddy bear by stayc is definitely aimed at a younger audience or as nostalgia bait so that's going to be divisive depending on whether it works on specific people or not and as for zero by newjeans.. it doesn't matter that it's an ad song, that chorus is... something. (and i've quite literally liked every single newjeans song up til now). bts's ioniq is also an ad song, yet it's very well done and much more musical. not an excuse lol

There’s is a reason they use lyrics like “sexy sexy” and “boob and booty”. It’s to be cringe, like that’s the whole point. Tomboy and allergy didn’t have these lyrical issues, one bad rap verse doesn’t give tomboy the same “cringy lyrics” as this song.

Zero's chorus is a reinvention of a classic Korean children's rhyme, a variation of their version of what you might call "eeny-meeny-miny-moe" (or whatever it is in your country of origin, it's different in my mother tongue). It was their mission statement from the beginning, which ADOR stated before the actual song dropped. It's a ubiquitous Korean jingle reimagined in a modern context. Of course, you can still dislike the chorus based on its instrumentation or whether you personally enjoy its lyrical content, but it did exactly what it set out to do.
