Most of these portraits were not an accurate representation of what these people looked like. They would ask the artist to make them look more beautiful, more young and more pale. So we will never know what she really looked like. However I do not disagree with what you said in this video. There is no way they would allow a visibly black woman to marry into that family. If she had African ancestry at all, then it must has been many generations before her. So basically she was white. Having a black ancestor doesn’t mean you’re black. Having a white ancestors doesn’t mean you’re white.

People point to her nose as though that proves someone's race, her known ancestor who may have been black lived 500 years before her. I have a white ancestor who lived 300 years before me and I have a narrow nose, can I call myself white or biracial, no I cant. Reason being is that being white that is a lived experience just as being black or biracial is a lived experience. In order to be biracial you need to have two parents from two different races, not a white person and anther person who had an ancestor 500 years ago.

Her supposed black ancestor was about 10 generations before her. It's like calling a white woman today black because her ancestor from 1540 was. I feel modern TV/movie shows want to rewrite history to suit modern times. They want to write history to be as they wished it was, not how it really was. When I was in film school they told me nothing in film was unintentional. Every frame, shot, costume and actor represented something or showed something to the audience. I understand the push for diversity is a big thing atm but it needs to make sense. Having black/Indian people in high society in Regency England does not make historical sense. It's revisionism. There is a lot of good stories involving black people etc that needs to be told but its cheap to insert them into shows like this for diversity points. I don't know what purpose it serves other than some ideological vision. I feel the same how they insert us woman into historically male roles, I get what they're doing but it's an insult to intelligence. I noticed the same thing in the shows The Great, the movie Boleyn and David Copperfield. There are a few stories of black people reaching relative success in that period like Charles Ignatius Sancho. He got to vote in the 1700s, a whole 100 plus years before white British woman could and he was a writer, abolitionist and store owner. They should focus on those stories.

I am not black so I won't speak for them but as an indian girl, I quite enjoyed the potrayal and introduction of the sharma sisters in the show. In historical fiction, we are always either potrayed as colonized victims or just struggling in general from racism. While we are very aware of our colonial past and it's scars, Sometimes it's actually quite fun and refreshing to see shows like these where the struggles and conflicts are mundane. The sharma sisters really made many girls like me feel included and I was very delighted to see how they potrayed their roots in the show. It's definitely not perfect but I really liked their attempt.

What you're actually asserting is illogical. You're promoting the idea that someone who looks phenotypically black isn't because their black ancestor was several generations ago. Recessive genes can come back from several generations. Blue eyes are a recessive gene. Would you tell someone who has blue eyes their eyes aren't blue because they came from a great grandmother 10x removed? If the police were looking for a white woman, they'd walk past the woman pictured. If the news were describing the suspect, they'd call her a light skinned black woman. You need to get a grip on your hate.

After 500 years of Whites mixing with only Whites you don’t suddenly get a Black person! And don’t forget… the aristocrats weren’t even allowed to marry non-aristocrats. They married cousins in order to make sure there was no mixing of peasants in the bloodline. (They didn’t marry for love!). It makes a nice change. Surviving contemporary written accounts, from members of her personal household, describe Queen Charlotte as of milky complexion and pale complexion. These were written by people who saw her every day. Her ancestry back as far as the 15th century was North Europe, with occasional southern European marriages. To be biracial one has to have parents of different races. Her parents grandparents, great grandparents and back were white. Top marks to this delightful lady. Let's see more of her. Congratulations on her excellent research from a professional historian.

I have seen a lot of old paintings of European women. Her features in the paintings look off, comparing hers to others. She could past for a relative of my uncle wife. She comes from a family let just say the hate of dark skin with your own kind is real. I remember a bbc documentary of several people who would be classified as black. They had white parents, but I forgot what they called it, it a black gene from an ancestor who was black. The findings were that an ancestor from one or both parents had the gene. I was exposed to passing white from a 5yr old. When I got to my young teens I could tell. When the nose, hair, lips (before injection) just don't look right. I would think someone in that family was passing for white.

First I'm going to say this... If that woman didn't have black blood, them folks back then wouldn't have never allowed any artist commissioned to portray her as such. Secondly, There have been "full" black parents who have given birth to "full" white children and vice versa with the only explanation being they were descendants of mixed races and one took a more dominant role in the genetic makeup of that child. Lastly, just because they can trace her parentage due to who was supposed to be her parents could have very well been a case of "mother's baby, father's maybe" And not necessarily with her parents but maybe her grands or great grands a more closer generational genetic pool. And the way they interbred back then or the way whites looked at blacks as less human but still procreated with them, that a white in her family got one of his biracial servants whom he also fathered, pregnant and this created this line. Ya'll just talking. That woman was mixed race and them beautiful African genes took dominance. So what... To be honest, if the human race started in Africa then guess what? The whole royal family is biracial. There you have it.

Brilliant video. I'm a truther and therefore prefer as far as is practicable truthful historical dramas. I hadn't actually heard of Bridgerton until today and I'll be honest I find the casting jarring and bizarre. Just as the Brits wouldn't have allowed a black queen, the British aristocracy would not have allowed its ranks to be so swelled with non-whites. Britain was pretty racist and the British Empire racist and genocidal. I don't see how making 'fantasy' colour blind historical dramas is going to help black rights today. Surely, repeatedly ramming home the often racist truth (to be fair there were way fewer non-white people around in Britain then anyway) is better? 'We can never let things like the British Empire happen again!' etc. And insead, make more opportunities available for non-white actors in modern historical, contemporary and sci-fi pieces. I am working on a novel about a lesbian aristocrat set in 1920s London. I plan to have very few (if any) non-white characters in it, not because I am a racist but simply becuase that's how it was. Sure, there will be Chinese people in Limehouse (for she attempted to smoke opium for a while - much harder than it looks apparently), the odd Indian and... the fact she once slept with Josephine Baker in Paris. :) I'm basically hoping things like that will dull any offensive racist sharp edges which I fear would be somewhat present. #Accuracy I do want this character to be likeable so I am basically going to avoid the issue as much as possible. She's not going to have any colonial rubber plantations or anything like that. ;) Tell me, would you find that offensive in a whitewashing sort of a way? The character is mainly of Iberian heritage (an exiled aristocrat) so perhaps there could be one racist comment about some ancestor supposedly being 'touched by the tar brush' (via the Moors, North Africans or something?) I feel this would be accurate but hopefully not too disgusting to send most folk running for the exits...? God, it's all a bit of a minefield... :(

He hired several Historians to go and REWRITE all of the History BOOKS the CAucaisans had in their school and Blacks b/c the caucasians had the REAL HISTORY. Most of the Books with the REAL KNOWLEDGE is in the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS. Books going back to the 1500s and back further. Also the Books in the VATICAN are the oldest historical books and it is shown in MOST of those HISTORICAL BOOKS that blacks RULED THE WORLD. White people came out of the CAucaus (whites were called wild men and women during the time they were supposed to be ruling Europe) mountains and the Black Moors civilized them (MOor primarily means black race) and made them the middle people or their emisarries and ambassadors to go to other BLACK LANDS to do business deals. The Kings and Queens of England were all Black and the whites they slept with and named them dukes and duchess. There was some kind of rebellion in the 1600s and the whites (bastard children but still had the Black Kings's blood) exiled most of the elite blacks World wide to slave fields that they were unaware their servants or employees were doing. They thought they were searching lands for them to obtain slaves and resources and instead the whites were building up their own kingdoms. Whites kept the knowledge but hid the REAL KNOWLEDGE and recreated a White supremacy race and empire. Most of the paintings in Europe, the VAtican, Spain and FRance that is hidden in the museum are BLACK.

Remember, Egypt was around for a very long time and also remember that UPPER AND LOWER Egypt had different rulers until they became "ONE Egypt". All that aside, it seems that you imply that there is ONLY ONE portrait that shows Queen Charlotte with darker skin and black features. This of course is Not the case. There ARE MANY PORTRAITS OF THE QUEEN THAT CLEARLY SHOW OBVIOUS DARK SKIN AND BLACK FEATURES ALONG WITH VERY TIGHT, CURLY HAIR. In fact the presenting Charlotte as a Caucasian woman by some artists is an attempt on their part to "sanitize" her race. No Royal would continue to have multiple portraits done that clearly mislead anyone about their race. Further, no black woman would approve a painting clearly making them to appear white just as no white woman would keep hiring an artist who continually misrepresented her with dark skin and black features. CLEARLY, Queen Charlotte liked this artist's portraits of her very much because she Commissioned him to paint her portrait Over and Over again. Also, it is very evident from these chronological paintings of her as she aged clearly show her hair in it's natural state. Further, it was quite the norm to continually intermarry within your own familial lines. Even during this time Royals were marrying FIRST COUSINS...because it kept the wealth within the family. Despite all of that, Royal Lineage is "cleaned up" and "sanitized" reflecting the current mores of the time and culture. Over the generations and for many "reasons", ie., illegitimacy, rape, incest, covering the birth of a Sovereign's illegitimate child born of a married Sovereign's mistress or vice versa. We all know this was often done and ALWAYS LIED ABOUT. THe populace of England would likely believe anything fed to them when portraiture was held within the family and the likelihood of any of them actually seeing the Queen was quite remote. And good heavens, Charlotte was a busy, busy woman. It was she who actually introduced Christmas trees into England, not Prince Albert. She was a Strong supporter of horticulture with beautiful gardens to her credit. She was also a strong supporter of music, concerts and the arts. Ift is likely that she did support Mozart. She kept her friends close and was a voracious letter writer throughout Europe. She had a strong writing friendship with Marie Antoinette and it is said she was devastated by her beheading. I noticed that in one portrait her mother and she have a strong resemblance. However, her mother's coloration is portrayed as very light. I do believe not only that she was of African descent and that her TRUE Genealogy would show this. I don't believe her genealogy showing her black heritage was as far removed as 200-300 years. What I believe are her legitimately portrayed paintings clearly show her to be a woman of African descent. But these facts, if they were hidden or misrepresented in any way in her genealogy, will never be known. I think she was a pretty woman, who was kind, loving, patron of the arts who loved her husband (even though he suffered from a grave mental illness) and she ADORED her children. She is someone to be very proud of.

I love the comment about accepting what we do know not what we don't. Absolutely first rate presentation. Bridgerton is an amusing romp, but anyone who believes it to be accurate either has an agenda or a lack of intellectual curiosity. As a piece of entertaining fiction it's fine. But it isn't accurate, although it draws on historical sources. Like The Crown it makes a little fact go a very long way. The danger is that they will, at some point, be accepted as accurate. Thus history gets rewritten.

She would have been much more regal and well spoken. Until recent misinformation on the Web it was well known in England and especially in London that she was mixed race and brown. My paternal grandmother was in service in London just after Edwardian times. She was told Victoria was brown. She saw for herself that his brother George, the next king, was "sort of tinged. Swarthy looking. Similar to Mediterranean". He thought the public were curious about his skin tone (most probably weren't as it was more recent history then, and people were told by their own parents and grandparents) and he wrote a letter to the public to explain that Queen Charlotte was mixed race. The information was even on the Web until a couple of years ago. That is the trouble with the Web. The truth of history can be replaced with a lie or even lack of information by a few keystrokes. Unlike antiquarian first edition books which have become almost impossible to find now.....in fact it's as if someone has been buying them up for book burning bonfires. Of course Charlotte wasn't the only mixed race royal. Queen Philippa of Hanault (look up her description) and her and Edward's offspring including the ultra savage black Prince Edward they stole Wales for. He had a reputation for riding on horseback and cutting down peasant mothers with babes in arms and pregnant women as they pled for mercy. Remember that girls of around 14 married and became mothers then. So he was murdering kids and their babies. The truth of that is also altered on the Web now. The black Prince was called the Little Black Prince in the French Court where he was raised. John O'Gaunt and all his siblings. Anne Boleyn is also reputed to have been swarthy. The red Tudor rose was to signify their colour, as there were no brown roses. The white rose of the Yorkists were to signify white royals. They forced the White Queen into marriage for power, not for peace. Various others including some forebears of Winston Churchill on the Bentinck side going back a few centuries. Of course after so many generations, he was white. Remember, the y syyc sons, their angels and ju tes then their later northman (Saxons, Angles, Jutes and Normans) cousins with whom they interbred did marry outside their bloodlines sometimes for power and wealth. The children were betrothed even from birth sometimes. The weaker of the families went to live in the country of the stronger of the two. For example, Philip came to live in England when he married Elisabeth II. Pass this on as it is being fast erased by misinformation by those in control, who don't want the public to know the real truth unless it suits them. Why? Because knowledge is power and they don't want us to have any. Always remember that when they use MSM and the Web, because they control almost all of this too. Whether it's toxic darts, the truth of space (level earth observer channel - I believe we live in a crater as that makes the most sense, because water doesn't stay on a ball), or whether it's anything else, those in control don't want you and your children to have the power even over yourselves.

Sophia Charlotte, born on May 19, 1744, was the eighth child of Charles Louis Frederick, the Prince of Mirow, Germany, and his wife, Elisabeth Albertina. Though born in Germany and a princess of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, Charlotte was directly descended from an African branch of the Portuguese Royal House.

She was black, German, and Portuguese. Either way, all of the royal families are related. Charlotte's husband chose her, and absolutely adored her, but she was so tired of having children. She bore 14 of them. That's what the women are for to this day in any RF. Heirs. Especially boys. Charlotte was the first Princess to live in Buckingham Palace.

An awful lot of nonsense has been spoken about Queen Charlotte’s ethnicity. Probably more nonsense has been stated about Megan Markel’s ethnicity. Most sensible & objective people do not regard Megan Markel as black, she is clearly mixed race. Indeed, she has given birth to a child with red hair. How many mixed race people do you know with red hair? Exactly! Queen Charlotte is interesting because she does show (in some portraits) black features. It is also fair to point out that such features would have been softened out. Indeed, many black women straighten their hair, no difference really. I think any African ancestry is going to very distant indeed so (at best) Charlotte was mixed race but in fairness probably no more so than many others back then.

In Germany aristocrats were perfectly fine marrying visibly black partners. Their family names usually were Moritz or Mauritz or they carried Moritz or Mauritz or their female forms as first names in their families. Africans are always portrayed as immensely wealthy and high status merchants or nobles of equal status to their European peers. There was a fifty year period where Germany joined the colonial cruelty "game" including slavery but the German people did not appreciate it and it was abolished. In short, there are a lot of German nobles that proudly have African ancestors. However, they would never consider themselves "black" unless they actually were black. Germans would be (and I know because I am one) surprised that anybody considered Colin Powell black.
