My father (2001) died 10 years before my mother (2011). When Mom died, even though I was 49, I recall thinking that I was now an orphan and that I moved to the head of the line to be the next to pass away myself. I recall feeling very alone even though I have a wonderful husband.

@Nyquil5 oh I know exactly how you feel! I was 45 when my mother passed and 51 when my father did. I thank God every day for my husband, but it's different than your parents. This scene really touched me bc I always turned to my father for advice, and I remember him being so old and just not having the answer anymore. Even though you and I are clearly lucky enough to not be alone, it still is an overwhelming feeling of loneliness. May your parents rest in peace 🙏🙏 PS I am so glad the Queen had her Prince almost to the very end!

She was extremely close to her mother. They spoke almost everyday. Only when the Queen was distantly abroad did they not speak. Although she had Philip, (and Anne) it was not the same as the relationship she had with her mum and sister. RIP Elizabeth.

The horrifying and absolutely heartbreaking moment when you have to say goodbye to your parents knowing that you will never see that physical face again. The moment when the child who was always afraid to face the death of his/her parents and who is still in you is orphaned from those who bound and guided you in this life. The day I said goodbye to my father was the saddest day I have ever lived. I don't want to imagine the day my mother dies too.

I sat by my mom's bedside for two weeks in the nursing home. I didn't want to leave her so much so that I showered at the home itself, I was blessed that they gave me my own shower. I couldn't leave her, she was unresponsive but I could not bring myself into moving my feet and walking out the door to go home. My mom was afraid of dying, she wasn't afraid of where she was going! But rather having to take that trip alone. She said once she knew that is one trip that we all must go it alone. However I told her that she may have to take the trip alone, but she wld never draw her last breath alone, that she has my word that I would be there by her side. And so began the 14 longest days saddest days loneliest days of my life. As I watched my siblings come sit watch, then leave to go home and rest, I took up my seat by her side and slowly watched her, drawing one less breath each time. I have been through many hard and sad times in my life but the one constant was that my mom was ALWAYS there during those times. It was ironic to me that the Proudest day of my life was in the end the SADDEST day of my life. But it was important that I keep my promise to her. When I saw her literally saw take her last breath it dawned on me at that time, that woman, that sweet soul was there when I was born and seen me take my first breath of life, and so in keeping my promise, she waited till my siblings took their leave to go home for a rest, and I her youngest born, was left there sitting by her side lamenting on the past, when I took her hand and I again looked at her, I was given the honour of seeing her TAKE HER LAST BREATH. When she took that Long last breath, it tore me in half be sure I also come to realise that the one person who I could rely on to be there for me my whole life, had indeed now taken her leave and gone home to my sister who had passed away 49 & 1/2 years earlier, that she was finally home in heaven, but I was left behind! alone! in a quiet room left to wait for my brother to come back and give him the news that our mom was gone. I can honestly say that I've never felt a saddness quite like it before, and I never want to feel that saddness ever again. When yr young you always think yr parents are going to be there, to share in your happiness, yr saddness, yr joys and yes even your disappointments. But all of a sudden yr sitting next to their bed holding their hand and telling them it's ok to go. If i can give some advise rember to tell yr parents you love them, because when they are gone it's to late.
