Saw them live five times and every time was amazing. Freddie could have been 85 years old and wouldn't have a speck of rust on him. He was the embodiment of "show".

I’ve been a drummer, bass player and guitar 🎸 player since the early 80’s and it’s great to hear an actual musician have a reaction to Queen’s music who can appreciate the instrumental talent of Queen and not “just” Freddie’s incredible singing. This band really had the best musicians for every instrument including Freddie on piano! Just check out many of Queen’s lesser known songs. Freddie’s piano 🎹 technique and style is totally original and totally unique. On top of that, John Deacon is the only bass player in rock to use a classical melodic style of playing bass which perfectly compliments Freddie’s piano 🎹 playing!

This was John Deacon's favourite Queen song and it's no wonder. The studio version is much cleaner of course, and has a bass solo - but John wasn't over-keen on playing bass solos live, so they didn't usually do it live. There's a lovely bit of an interview somewhere where Brian gushes in awe over how locked in Roger and John were to each other. If you want to hear more of John's epic bass work, I thoroughly recommend The Millionaire Waltz and also Liar for all four of them being epic really. Millionaire Waltz needs to be a studio version (much clearer sound) but for Liar I recommend a live performance - I'm a big fan of Rainbow 1974 or Odeon 1975 but some of the 1977 ones are good too.

Probably their best live performance of any song they’ve ever done and most people have never even heard of Dragon Attack. I’ve been a big fan of Queen since the 70’s and in my opinion this is way better than the studio version!!!

You're right. I think they're jamming too. Look at Brian reaction to John's bass. I mean sure they practice it before, but I think there are more some impromptu bits there. Dragon Attack live is not for seeing Freddie singing great. It's for witnessing the greatness of the other three gods.

You should give the studio version a listen, too. There are lots of differences from the live performance, and though it's more clean and slick, they still retain that naaaasty funk. And you can hear Deacon's bass much clearer, you'll *love* it.
@MR-so1pf5 жыл бұрын
TraENT you hit the nail on the head. This song began as a jam session. Love this song. Most of the track evolved from a jam session the band had at the studio while they were bladdered(drunk). That's how the basic loop of bass and drums came out. Brian May then added lyrics and melody, the latter being surprisingly similar to "We Will Rock You" (compare "Buddy you're a boy make a big noise playing in the street" with "Take me to the room where the red's all red take me"). Queen has so many amazing under-rated songs. Hopefully, you'll discover them on your Queen journey. Try listening to Cool Cat, another fun and funky song. John Deacon's bass is amazing as usual and Freddie's falsetto is just sooooooo. Queen - Cool Cat (Official Lyric Video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/oYXSdKiPm9B6f5Y

I've watched many reaction videos to Queen, including this song, but I must say that I was very impressed with your singular ability to not only appreciate the subtle elements of the song but also the overall flow and theme of the song, which is very much a "jam" as you correctly note (which also accounts for the throwaway lyrics).

1981 is peak Queen. High of their first#1 in the USA with AOBTD. They were all so tight here. Then the rough times begin after this tour when they start recording Hot Space. I think they are the first band to decline musically while gaining popularity in the 80s. Stones eventually did it but Queen was first
