Those of us who grew up with Queen know exactly how incredible this song is!!! Another Fredie Masterpiece. Most people could write, or sing, or play, or be a showman. The fact that Freddie could do all of them, and at a genius level, still blows my mind. I'm so glad you have found some of the greatest music out there.

And they were so *young* when they created this! (It was actually recorded in 1973, even though it wasn’t released until 1974) So Freddie was 27, Brian was 26, Roger was 24, and John was only 22 when it was recorded! Not ONE of them was a formally trained musician at advanced levels. Freddie had some piano at his boarding school in India, and Roger some vocal training as a young boy at a cathedral school. Brian was mostly self-taught, (after Brian’s dad taught him a little bit on a banjolele and helped him build his guitar, The Red Special)... As far as I know, John was completely self-taught. They were just THAT darned gifted and driven.

Freddie was a musical genius no doubt about it, he had it all. He created masterpieces no one will ever come even near to. He loved harmonies, he loved transitions, he loved to keep everyone on their toes. That became rather obvious when there was his tribute concert after his death in April 1992. There was the elite of the music world eager to sing the songs with the remaining members of Queen only to realize that they had a lot of difficulties either with the key, the tempo or with the song they chosed in itself and they needed to change a lot to even be able to sing it decently. That just shows how great he was!

If you want to hear Freddie banging out some serious piano licks, listen White Queen, written by Brian. Freddie doesn't ususally sing all the voices on the studio cuts, though every member does do several tracks. I can hear Roger and Brian on this as well as Freddie. John does back up vocals live but not on the studio stuff. Freddie is a natural Baritone but he also has a 4-5 octive vocal range so when you know his voice you can hear all of his vocal tracks layered over each other. They only had 24 track back then too, now tracks are almost unlimited.

This is my favourite Queen song. But it's much much better listening to the entire Queen II album through, because The March of the Black Queen is just a very detailed spectacular puzzle piece of a great album. I bought the Queen II album in record form, and just replayed it until I fell asleep. I find classic rock (especially Queen and David Bowie) very relaxing. Still, listen to the entire album, because it's an entire story if you pay attention to the lyrics, about the forces of light and dark and dark age fantasies. Queen was not only full of great musicians but full of great storytellers and visionaries.

Good job, dude. Yes - it is one of the most amazing pieces of music, setting the trend for so many other Quuen songs that were born out of these roots. There are way too many aspects of their music to focus on. Every track is a journey, different style, a different genre, and yet you absolutely know it could only have been them - brave enough, skillfull enough and gifted enough to deliver. And, they were/still are the undisputed gods of the transition. Pink Floyd did it to an extent, but not with the passion and precision that epitomises every Queen track. We sill never see their like again! And how very sad is that?

I love your reactions to Queen songs. You understand and appreciate the complexities of their music when most vloggers don't. I honestly think that the Queen band members were ahead of their time. They weren't afraid to experiment with recording techniques, sound and musical instruments. One of Queen’s earliest masterpieces, “March of the Black Queen” represents a prototype for the ambitious “Bohemian Rhapsody” that would come years later. Due to the complex musical arrangement, the song was never performed live in full. The four verse however was incorporated into several medleys the group performed live. "The March of the Black Queen" In a 1974 interview with Melody Maker, Mercury, who had been working on the song even before Queen formed, said, "...that song took me ages to complete. I wanted to give it everything, to be self-indulgent or whatever." The multifaceted composition, the band's second-longest (6:34), is one of two Queen songs (the other being "Bohemian Rhapsody") containing polyrhythm/polymeter (two different time signatures simultaneously 8/8 and 12/8) and a simpler polyrhythm around the end uptempo section, which is very rare for popular music. The lead vocals cover two and a half octaves (G2 - C5). May regards it as a precursor to "Bohemian Rhapsody", stating "You've got to bear in mind that we'd already made 'My Fairy King' on the first album and we'd done 'The March of the Black Queen' on the second album, so we were well in tune with Freddie's excursions into strange areas, and that was something that we really enjoyed." Taylor recalled in a 1977 interview, "The tape went transparent, genuinely...It was 16-track... The tape had gone over the (recording) head so many times, overdubbing, that the oxide had worn off." (This anecdote was later mis-attributed to the "Bohemian Rhapsody" sessions.) Despite never being released as a single, it remains a favourite amongst Queen's fans. The full piece was too complicated to be performed live; however, the uptempo section containing the lines "My life is in your hands, I'll foe and I'll fie..." etc. was sometimes included in a live medley, with vocals by Mercury and Taylor, during the 1970s. The opening piano piece is only known to have been played live once, at Providence Civic Center on 14 November 1978 (likely in response to a fan shouting for the song near the beginning of the concert.) After playing the intro the band quickly transitioned into "Bohemian Rhapsody". This was also the final time a Queen II track would be played live until the revival of "Seven Seas of Rhye" in 1984 for The Works Tour. This song ends with an ascending note progression, which climaxes in the first second of the following track. The song segues into the next track, "Funny How Love Is". There are a couple other songs that you'll appreciate like Black Queen,=. From Queen Debut Album. Queen - My Fairy King (Official Lyric Video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jJa5m3idad-hh80 Queen - Great King Rat (Official Lyric Video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/jHmmaWiOjK58bac Queen - Ogre Battle (Official Lyric Video) kzbin.info/www/bejne/baGQZnadjLVqf9k Queen - Stone Cold Crazy (Live at the Rainbow) The first thrash metal song. This live version is amazing and faster than the album version. Metallica did a cover of this song in 1992 and won a Grammy for it. The harmonies on studio albums are always done by Freddie, Roger, and Brian. Freddie of course had a spectacular voice and range, then there's Roger with a fantastic upper register (and falsetto!), he's usually the one you hear, when the high notes/screams lead over into Brian's guitar playing. Also a nice raspy rock voice in the middle spectrum, that's him at 10:02 with the "My life is in your hands, I'll fo and I'll fie" line. And Brian with a "softer" voice in the middle/lower range. Just a brilliant blend altogether.

The harmonies done by Freddie, Brian, and Roger. all 3 of them sang the same part, same line, each melody together. And then they stack them all together so the sound is gonna be massive and full. As if you have 20 something people singing the melody.

This is my favorite Queen song. Great reaction. Stick to the first 5 albums for all the hidden gems.

Bro, loved your reaction it was so honest and spontaneous I could tell you're not a poser. U earned a new suscriptor here. Keep it up!

The sheer perfection of Bohemian Rhapsody's big sister. A quick suggestion, how about a reaction to Cool Cat, Melancholy Blues or Dreamer's Ball.

Love how passionate you are, great reaction.😍👏

Imagine how great the song would be if you'd actually let it play longer than fifteen seconds at a time.

Thinking back to the days in the 1980s when I used to play my Queen tapes in the car I remember Queen ll comprised Side White most of which was composed by Brian May and Side Black composed By Freddie. Personally I preferred Side White which includes my favourite track...White Queen which I would love to see your reaction, especially the live version.

Ok Queen II was probably the height of Queens Heavy sound (and hte creativity of it). They were less heavy in Shear heartattack, because Brian had been sick, and they went Pop.

Last comment, Freddie was apparently writing stories about the "Land of Rye" and a lot of his songs in the first two albums were about that. Seaven Seas of Rye, Ogre Battle, Black queen, etc

Heyyy☺️ mostly Roger (the drummer) does these extreme high notes! But all of them except for John💗 are singing on the records! There are in fact also lots of songs with Brian and Roger doing lead vocals ☺️ and sadly they never played this masterpiece live but they once said that this song was not written to perform it live just like the opera part of „Bohemian Rhapsody“ 😊

even in studio Roger Taylor the drummer and Brian may the guitarist and sometimes John deacon the bassist would harmonize with Freddie, live too.. btw the changes are queen getting close to prog just without the time signature changes like rush and yes and dream theater, all bands you should react to

The really high harmonies are usually Roger. I feel like it's a prototype for bo rap
