Excellent little movie on a fantastic ship! Even today, she still would be looking good. They simply don't build them like that anymore.......

@@forestghost7 Iconic ships, I was only seven but that is old enough to drink wine with your dinner on French Line. Mother was cross and the wine tasted bad so it got sorted naturally. I met a French Canadian guy who was a waiter as a student back in the day we were on the newest Queen Elizabeth a couple of years back. He said they recruited a lot of French speaking Canadian students back then. The original Queen is buried under a freight terminal now in Hong Kong as they built out a part of the harbour.

So awesome watching these old footage of old cruise liners

Not a cruise liner! A cruise ship is a cruise ship and a liner is a liner. They are two different kinds of vessel.
@herondelatorre40233 жыл бұрын
@@TheClive1949 Not necessarily. Nowadays, ships that still cross the Atlantic ocean look more like Caribbean cruise ships than they do transatlantic ocean liners.
@TheClive19493 жыл бұрын
@@herondelatorre4023 The Queen Mary 2 is the only ocean liner in operation - it is true that she does undertake cruises as well but she was specifically designed and built for trans Atlantic crossings. Ships that reposition back and forth between the Caribbean and the Mediterranean, depending upon the season, are cruise ships - not cruise liners.
@herondelatorre40233 жыл бұрын
@@TheClive1949 Well you may be right that the QM2 is technically a trans-atlantic liner. However, her looks and designs are still more like a Caribbean cruise ship than the older looks and designs of a traditional trans-atlantic ocean liner. That's what I dislike the most about the QM2. She could never compare to the QM1, QE1, and Normandie. They were TRUE trans-atlantic legends.
@TheClive19493 жыл бұрын
@@herondelatorre4023 Indeed, and Queen Mary, Queen Elizabeth, Normandie etc should not be compared alongside Imperator, Mauretania (1), Olympic, times change, fashions change and customer/passenger expectations change.

Never beaten for size during her lifetime was the Queen Elizabeth. The first passenger ship to beat her for size was Carnival Destiny in 1996, and the only ocean liner to beat her for size is the Queen Mary 2.
Possibly, lookout shelters...or fire control directors for the 3 inch guns. It is a good question. Cunard certainly preferred lookouts in the crows nest looking mostly ahead. As a troop ship, the military would have added several more lookouts, i.e. Starboard (Fwd and Aft), Port (Fwd and Aft), and possibly an aft lookout as well. However, the fire control directors is another equally strong possibility. Good luck finding an answer...I am curious myself.
