I'm glad I found this video. It was very difficult to find a video talking about the pros and cons of a wood-bound and metal-bound queen excluder. Thanks to your video, I was able to confidently purchase a wood-bound queen excluder.

Glad it was helpful! Good idea going with the wood-bound. I think you'll like it best.

@@CentralBeekeepersSupply I believe I will. I'm starting up and managing a hive for a friend and after reading some criticisms about how queen excluders are believed to slow down honey production, I got the idea that if they used a wood-bound excluder, maybe they wouldn't slow their bees movement and therefore honey production.

I'm so glad I came across this video because I was about to buy some of the plastic ones to save $ but I don't want to deal with them getting "glued down" & I want the bees to be able to move through more easily. Great advice that's surely appreciated.

We have used the wood bound, metal and plastic in our operation. We like the metal bound the best. Plastic worked ok for us also. We prefer the wood bound, but use the metal due to cost factors. Thanks for sharing.

The wood bound excluder is definitely a little more pricey. Good on you for figuring out what works best for you! That's the name of the game. We appreciate you watching.

I was just watching your video about swarm catcher boxes again and was thinking that a video of you removing the box when full of bees from your tree stands would be informative. Also, if you provided updates of these wild-caught swarms and their survival rate, that would help. Thanks, from Yell county!

I think the plastic queen excluder will drop your honey production off alot. Going with the steel wire this year. You are right about them on the plastic ones all mine were stuck to the center of the boxes and only a limited space for the bee's to get through. Great information and don't forget to roll that beautiful bee footage. ❤🐝🐝🐝

If it's all a beekeeper can afford, they do the job. Albeit just not as effectively. We definitely recommend the wood framed metal excluder. Thanks for the comment, Michael! #RTBBF!

Hello John you have done it again with a very informative video. I have been using the wood frame queen excluder and it works very well. The only problem I have is the hive beetle will hide around the edge of the excluder. In that grove of the wood where the metal go into the wood . This was a good time for this video because I am getting ready to put silicone in that slot so the hive beetle can not get in there an hide . Other than that they work great. Thanks again for all your video’s.

Those darn hive beetles are the bane of any beekeeper's existence, haha! Keep your beetle towels handy and keep squashing those jokers. Thanks so much for watching, Kathy!

We tried the plastic one on our split last year, they did not like it. Didn't know about the wood bound metal, think we'll try that one this year (retire the plastic for other uses...perhaps cut it for use when doing splits in the Spring). Thank you so much for the info.

Something I do is put the queen excluder on in spring until I get my first honey super full then I pull the excluder and the queen stops and stays in brood box

Can or will bees clean up frames with wax moth damage? Or do I need to start over with these frames? They have natural wax with the wires in them. Thanks.
@CentralBeekeepersSupply
@CentralBeekeepersSupply 2 жыл бұрын
That would depend on the amount of damage. A few worm tunnels or small areas where you may have removed moth larvae 🐛 can typically be reused. Be sure to run frames through a freeze cycle to kill eggs and larvae before doing so. #RTBBF thanks for watching!
