It is said that people that shot I’m gone slightly mad in 1991 said that Freddie was worried about the penguin shooting with him and worried that it was to hot just to get his mind of his problems. What a legend though thinking about everyone and everything sad to know we lost someone that talented.

Freddie never allowed their music being used for commercials. It was years after his death that the rest of the band allowed the use for commercials and as far as I know do all the royalties from those commercials go to the Mercury Phoenix Trust. This trust was founded by Roger, Brian and John after Freddies death to help people with HIV and fund research for a cure.

Roger was adorable in such a cute way, but he and Freddie Mercury were such party animals. Roger couldn't stay faithful to one woman for nothing. He and Dominique were together for 12 years before they got married and then married after having kids and immediately got separated 6 months or so later. WTH? They were always the most attractive and cutest couple and I don't think to this day me and married to this young girl now he couldn't say that he didn't care for Dominique or the mother of his children at all. The mother of his last three kids, Debbie, gave me the heebie-jeebies and I always thought she was a bit of a sleaze. She might not have been but gave out that vibe that his other two women have never given out.. he was so good-looking when he was younger and now he looks like Father Christmas. Fred was Persian and most of them are very handsome and they grow old with Grace.

When I think about how determined he was to get out the music he did when he was so damn sick and let me tell you being that sick going into the recording studio and telling Brian I can do it taking a shot of vodka and getting it perfect in one friggin take are you kidding me the guy was a Phenom. All the music he would have written and sang it just makes me sad to think not just that we didn't get to hear it but that he didn't get to write it and sing it because he loved writing and singing more than anything else in the world he got so much joy out of music and Performing I mean you look at them on stage he's freaking having a great time he loved his fans he loved music he loved performing. It's just really really sad but we will all hear him again one day because you know he's up there and he took command of the Heavenly Choir and they are rocking it.

Wasn't it 1989 since Freddie did concerts in 1986. Remember the 1985 and 1986 Live Wembley concerts. Freddie looked healthy in 1986 and had tons of energy and moved on the stage as he pleased. He was diagnosed with AIDS in 1987 and he didn't start to deteriate until the late 80s. I think you mean 1989-1991. He was really sick especially in the last 2 years. They even had makeup and filters to cover his skin because of how bad it was. If you go back to 86 and before, his skin was as clear and smooth as a child's.

Freddie had a 4 octave range. He was a baratone, but sang as a tenor most of the time. To say he had an insane range does not even cover it. there are very few who have/had it and even fewer that sounded even 1/100th as good as Freddie did. He could hit high F like nothing. He not only used his focal flaps, but he would throat sing or throat hum. Only known really by the monks and buddists in certain parts of the world. It is very difficult to do and it is not a natural thing for a singer to do. Nobody knows if Freddie stumbbled on to it and thought this sounds good, feels right or if it just came naturally or if someone showed it to him(though I don't think he hung with many monks and few can master it enough to teach someone). We will never know, but these things that he did gave him the amazing sound he had. The growl and gruff was from the throat singing . He knew how to breath and how to enunciate and just how to color each and every word that he sung. He was a master at making the words have more feeling just by the way he sang them. We will never hear or see another like him he was truely a one of a kind.

From anecdotal evidence (Roger Taylor discussing Freddie’s early singing style), he came by his insanely fast vibrato (determined through video analysis to be twice as fast as the legendary Pavarotti) naturally, and had to work to develop a more common singing style. Roger described his singing voice as a tenor as “like a sheep bleating” when he started out, and he had to learn by ear and practice a tenor range instead of his naturally operatic baritone or his easier to learn falsetto. But the vibrato being so fast as to be sometimes inaudible made his shifting in keys and styles smooth in a way I’ve never heard anywhere else. And he has the physical structure of a naturally strong singer: wide face and nose not too skinny, loose jaw, barrel chest for lung capacity.

My journey listening to Queen started a long, long time ago. In the last year of high school a guy asked me if we could be an item. I told him: this is the last year of school, I will never see you again after we graduate! Next day at the bus stop he put his walkman on my head and let me listen to "one year of love". It send the chills through my bones! I was right, he isn't the guy I ended up marrying. But we had a very romantic young lovers year, and I've been hooked on Queen ever since...

I loved your reaction and how you do a little research on Queen and the song that you're reacting to. Freddie was amazing. There will never be another singer of his caliber. He was one of a kind. Did you know that after he died, the rest of the band held a tribute to Freddie? There were 72,000 fans in Wembley for the concert for Freddie. Almost every singer who sang Queen songs had to change the keys. George Michael and Axl Rose were the only singers who were able to sing the songs in the right keys.` This is according to Robert Plant, when spoke about Freddie at the tribute. I can only imagine what else Freddie could've accomplished if, he had lived for another 10 years. You're right, Freddie could sing in any genre and sound great.

My daughter will be 30 in August and this song came out in May 1989 and I was six months pregnant with her driving home from work when I first heard it. I knew from the harmony that it was Queen & I was excited because I did like the group a lot and they finally put out another album. I sat in my car and I was listening to this song until the end and I couldn’t believe how incredibly powerful it was!! The harmonies plus the vocals on top of the musical instruments were just top-notch. I was pumped up after hearing this & LOVED this song ever since. I’m surprised my poor baby girl didn’t come out saying in the lyrics to this song. You just don’t look old enough to have been born, or maybe a toddler when this song was released. It is an awesome song and I think it was one hell of an incredible come back for queen after taking a hiatus from the studio and all of the touring. I didn’t realize until 2 1/2 years later that Freddie Mercury did have HIV and AIDS at the time this was done.

Freddie was sick already so 1986 was the last tour that Queen toured with Freddie thereafter all they did was record music and videos up until Freddie death. Freddie wanted to write and be with the band right up till the end

A terrific commentary! One aspect that really makes Queen stand out from pretty much anyone else is the guitar playing of Brian May. His riffs were very rarely something of their own sound. Most of the time, he integrated the melody of the song into his playing, which leads to a solid, consistent and cohesive sound. Also, look into the history of May's guitar, The Red Special, and you will understand just why it sounds so unique.

This feels like a return to form. At that point, Freddie had gone solo and Queen took a two year break. So I imagine that fans were really excited and happy that Queen was back. They probably also found Freddie’s new look jarring but still. I’d call this song the national anthem for all collectors. I want it all and I want it now!

One if not the best solos by Brian May! He wrote the song. It is also one of the best performances by Freddie. He pours his soul into it. He had several skin cancers due to AIDS. That is the reason for the long sleeve shirt, beard and tie.

Fun facts: The song's title is derived from a quote Brian May's wife said while watching from the wngs of Live Aid, "I want it all" Freddie never played this song live, as The Magic Tour was the last tour he would perform with Queen, though he did perform Barcelona live later. The song is played live by Queen in more recent tours with vocals provided by a variety of singers from Paul Rogers to Adam Lambert. The "water" coming up from the drum skins on Roger's kit is actually beer, which he would pour over his kit to give it a better sound than dry.

I appreciate your reviews. Queen is classically iconic. This is the time period when Freddie had lesions and wore long sleeved shirts to cover them. The songs after 1986 that they created he never performed in front of an audience. He would tire easily. But the one thing you’ll never be able to take from that legend is his unparalleled voice and presence. Also, Roger never used water on the drums. It was always beer. Thank you for expanding your audience to Freddie. He was one of a kind and no one can do it better. If you want a trip though listen to Marc Matel. He doesn’t look like Freddie but sounds just like him and did a lot of the music for the movie.

Brian is actually an Astrophysicist, Deacon on the bass, an electrical engineer and invented the Deacy Amp, which til this day no one has been able to figure out how he did it or get the same sound that Queen had. I'm told they have come close, but not yet...lol Basically what you had on that stage was "The Big Bang Theory" four extremely intelligent men. That's why I think he said "We are a bunch of misfits playing for misfits. And..."We are the Champions" was the closing song for "Revenge of the Nerds" Coincidence? It's also said that in his whole career, no one can find where Brian hit a wrong note on his guitar during many of his solos.

I don’t normally comment but I love your enthusiasm for this song. This is my jam when I don’t want to go to work. Me and my old roommate would get into this to get motivated. He was a hip hop fan but loved this track. The lyrics hit hard in a way rock isn’t known for. Fair or not. Imagine if Freddy lived. Imagine a collaboration with a great hip hop artist. I’m sure it would be great.

You mention how he can switch his voice to fit any type of song. He actually changes his voice and style within the ssme song sometimes. As a kid that was a huge Queen fan, I thought I knew Freddies voice. Then the hot space album came out. One of the songs is called Put out the Fire. He sings so low and reserved in the verses then jumps up in the chorus. I actually at first thought it wasn't Freddie singing as I didn't understand how the same person could sing 2 totally different ways in the same song. Put out the fire would be a nice reaction for you
