Met him at the age of 15 - with by BFF - and what we asked was "can we have your autograph" - but my friends mother butted in and told him "all my daughter ever talks about is Freddie-Freddie-Freddie!!" -- and while Robyn was understandably humiliated - his response was to look down for a second, then look up through his beautiful eyelashes and say, very quietly "Really?" - like he just couldn't believe it... he was shy, charming and lovely... and after my friend and I left... (it was a hotel lunchroom across a parking lot in Kalamazoo, MI from the concert venue we had been standing outside for HOURS in January weather) - we ran away to wait in line for the concert... and as the band left the room, and passed the lobby vending machine, Freddie asked Robyn's mother what coins he needed to buy a trinket... she told him 4 quarters, and he bought a key-chain set - with a heart and key (heart has a key-space) -- took out the "key" and gave the heart chain to Rob's mother and said "give this to your daughter" -- the inscription was "he who holds the key can open my heart" - that's the kind of guy Freddie was.. more to the story, the whole band was in the hotel restaurant and Brian May was the one who said "ought we to sign two?" when we asked for autographs... and also, when we did finally see the concert ("general admission" meant that you ran as fast as you could to the front) - each band member gave us a smile and a nod... well, except for Roger, who obviously could not see us from behind the drums... Gotta say, I've heard many stories of disappointments when people have met their "idols" - but this was just the opposite - wish I could give more details about the meeting, but this post is already super-long and likely not that interesting to most... just sayin' Love Freddie and Queen... (from an old lady)

Are you kidding? I'd love more details, as I'm sure everyone who reads your comment would! Would it bother you to say what year it was? I'm no spring chicken myself, but that's okay. I've been a fan from their 1st album. With age comes not only wisdom, but a backlog of memories of great artists & great concerts. I got to see Zeppelin three times, and many other greats, but I still bemoan the fact I missed out on Queen live. So by all means give us a few more tidbits. I'm sure even new fans would be interested.

Thank you, Deborah - you are too kind! this was the tour upon release of "Day at the Races" - they opened with Tie your Mother Down, and it was crashing awesome -- I just looked it up and it was actually January 1977 - So I must've been 16 (turned in August '76) --Thin Lizzy opened for them, and they were amazing as well - took my single mind off of Brian May (briefly) when I saw how cool Phil Lynott was - with that "dark energy" - bass slung almost down around his knees ... RIP Phil, as well - long gone, far too soon...

I did interact with Freddie when I saw Queen in 1976 with orchestra pit seats. He handed me a rose I said thank you. I also touched his bare foot and he smiled. One of the best nights of my life. Queen was still playing small venues. Bohemian Rhapsody has just hit the stores. I was a Queen fan already. Lucky me.💙

I worked as a volunteer at Aid Atlanta from 1990-1993. I saw so many people who suffered with Aids. If we could go back in time, I would ask (beg) him to protect himself. It literally breaks my heart that he left us so soon and that with medical advances, if he held out a few years, he could still be here. His loss in 1991 was a gut punch for sure. We love you Freddie!

bryan sim what I mean is this: I don’t want to scream and bug him for a bunch of autographs and otherwise act like that he’s an “object”... I would have loved to get to know him as a *person*, but I also know that the demands on his time and attention simply wouldn’t allow that even if he were so inclined to let me in. I was imagining it as if I just had a few moments to meet him... and I’d want to *thank* him instead of making demands. That’s all.

I’ll be honest... I love him so much my heart *hurts*, but it’s more of a motherly feeling, even though he’s 22 years older than me. I feel so much concern for him (even though, of course, he’s gone). I actually pray for him every day (it’s a Catholic thing...we pray for the dead) and hope that he’s in Heaven. Before everyone unleashes their wrath on me- stop- let me live, people! I hope to meet him there someday, God willing. If we all get there, let’s ask for a concert! 🥰

If you want to hear the most beautiful ballad he ever wrote and sung, react the Queen "You Take My Breath way", with lyrics. One of the most amazing vocal use of his voice. And most heart felt words in a Love song "ever" written. Just Piano solo and backing vocals. Guaranteed to give you positive chills. Its regarded as a Masterpiece.

Brian does such an amazing job now with this song. Saw Queen in 2006 and 2016...Brian had me in tears. Then they have Freddie up on the big screen for the last verse. ( I also saw Freddie/Queen in 1982 but they didn't do this song then) All in Detroit. I can't think of a question I'd ask him. I know I'd thank him for putting all those feelings into words. I think I'd want to just hug him so tight...like help heal his insecurities 💔

I would ask him to appear to bass player John Deacon in a dream and comfort him. It seems that John has never gotten over Freddie's death and is now reclusive and has almost no contact with Brian or Roger or anyone. Roger said that John is "rather fragile" these days. I would ask Freddie to drop by and visit an old friend.

@@spiritzone13 He actually calls him a "little fragile" in this Rolling Stone interview when they're asked if they still talk to John and I've heard Brian say something similar in a TV interview. But the following is from the Rolling Stone interview with Roger and Brian: -Do you still keep in touch with John Deacon? May: We don’t, really. He doesn’t want to. He wants to be private and in his own universe. Taylor: He’s completely retired from any kind of social contact. -Do you ever see or talk to him? Taylor: No, no. I think he’s a little fragile and he just didn’t want to know anything about talking to people in the music business or whatever. That’s fair enough. We respect that.

Here I am all sentimental anyway the day after Christmas & you go & ask that question & open the floodgates. So as I wipe away tears...I'd want to tell Freddie that even after 27 years he & his music are still beloved & relevant, and being embraced by each new generation. And then I'd ask him to sing "You Take My Breath Away" to me, even one verse would make me happy. After all, he has taken my breath away since I was 18. L., if you do that song it really is important you listen to the "Live at Hyde Park '76" video. It's short, just 3 minutes, and it's haunting, ethereal. Freddie had just written it, they hadn't even recorded it yet. That video is special to us fans, which now includes you. But then, in the studio, they added to it in a way that made it downright eerie in its beauty. Both versions are essential. Thanks for doing this video. It's obvious you see (and feel) why millions of people of all ages, around the world, love Freddie & Queen. You've joined a huge, beautiful club, and we embrace you wholeheartedly.💙

Oh, this song...it's so beautiful. This isn't the best version (because dead crowd), Wembley and anything from South America were always amazing because the crowd would sing it for him. And they still do it now, Brian all grey and old brings out the guitar and the crowd sings and it's so, so tearjerking. (Also, as a lady, I must say, Brian's expression of total focus and those long fingers working their magic on the guitar are, ahem, just as delightful.) As for the one question...I don't know. Truly, I would want to go back to the 70s and beg on my knees for Freddie to be careful - for all of them to be careful. I wouldn't even care if it destroyed the time-space continuum, I'd tell them all the ways you could get it and how you died from it just for the opportunity to keep Freddie and let him keep making the music he loved. But if that could not be done...I would just want to thank him. And give him a hug. And tell him how much he is loved.

You have to do You take My Breath Away. You will be amazed at the difference. I would ask Freddie where did he draw motivation from after he got sick. I get that he carried a constant feeling of loneliness and most of his outrageous behavior was a defense mechanism. But the strength he had to overcome the knowledge that he was sick and sing some of his greatest music puts me in awe.

L., you said you'd ask "How did it feel, the journey, the experience". They did a song on their next to last album, "Was It All Worth It", in which Freddie sort of answers that. It's so poignant, them looking back at their years as a band, knowing full well it was coming to an end. But it's not really overly sentimental. It's powerful..full of grit & life while being sensitive at the same time, larger than life...as Freddie himself was right to the end. Please do a reaction to it. It's an amazing song.

So, the camera crew is to blame actually. They did the same concert twice in a row in Montreal and filmed it. The camera crew wouldn't let the audience be very loud or active or sing along (asked them to stay in thier seats, etc) and they wanted the two performances to be done exactly the same way. Bc of this, the band didn't get the same energy and reaction from the crowd they were used to feeding off of. Freddie knew it wasn't thier fault but I'm sure it was still frustrating for him. Either way, they still had a great performance!
@OlJackBurton
@OlJackBurton 5 жыл бұрын
@@JaysterJayster Actually, he was collectively addressing to the crowd under his breath that "you don't know it" and was visibly disappointed. Brian was kind of addressing to the crowd and to Freddie that "it's all right." It wasn't though. Freddie was bothered for the rest of the song and probably much of the concert even cursing them out later during Jailhouse Rock when they wouldn't dance for/with him. At 4:52, Freddie raises a thumb to the audience, but i really believe he wanted to put up a different finger. And then half-heartedly mutters yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah-yeah almost like responding to a nagging wife, lol. And then Brian seems angry that Freddie's angry. It almost seemed like Freddie wouldn't come back after Brian's solo, but being the professional that he was, he came back at the exact moment. On the bright side of the whole thing, this is the only version where we hear the entire song from Freddie and sung very beautifully instead of having to sit through the mediocre voices of the audience like all the other live versions.

I've heard him sing many versions of this incredibly beautiful ballad but in this one he reveals his heart, his love, and his pain. So, to answer your question, the part of my body that was affected was ... my heart; he made me feel what he was feeling. To show one's vulnerability in front of thousands, and later millions of people, is the greatest show of strength there is. I totally agree with a statement you made in another reaction, you said; "A talent like Freddie Mercury comes once in a century." True

YAY YOU FINALLY REACTED TO IT! Should have specified the Live at Wembley live but I'm just glad you reacted to this song live and it turned out to be just as amazing as I was expecting! This made my night, loved your reaction as always! I think I would ask Freddie "will you be my best friend?" 😂 Seems like he'd be a fun guy to be friends with. You should react to them at Live Aid and It's A Hard Life

You should check out Play the game, a very underrated song. Freddie kills those high notes in it and sings it falsetto. Do the studio version though. They do it live and it's great live, but he sings it flatter in the live shows, the studio version he kills it.

A Kind of Magic (Live at Wembley) Not the Friday Night video...just the one that says Live at Wembley. John Deacon slays the bassline! You want to get up and dance, and excellent harmonies with Roger.

If I could say something to Freddie, it would have to be a great thank you, and ask to give him a hug. That would be the best way to tell him what I think of him. By the way - if you want a mindblowing version of Love of my life, try the concert in Rio - or just a little later than Montreal. It is like he conduct the audience!
