It is sad to contemplate how Britain and the English-speaking Canadians have pandered to the Quebecois, all to no purpose. The Queen showed them the courtesy of speaking to them in French, yet the disloyal mob protested outside the place where she was speaking. A few years later, de Gaulle, who sat out the Second World War in the relative safety of London while American and British forces fought and died to recover France, came to Montreal and nearly started a riot with his “Vive le Quebec libre,” and was properly rebuked by Prime Minister Pearson. Pierre Trudeau sought to mollify the Quebecois by jamming the metric system down everyone’s throat, so that the Quebecois could pretend they were in France, but a year or so later, the criminal Quebecois kidnapped and murdered several government officials. When Britain defeated Quebec in 1759, it should have insisted that the savages become civilized, learn English, and reject the stifling influence of the Roman Catholic church. Instead, it caved into them and passed the Quebec Act of 1774, which eventually caused the British to lose their American colonies.

Oh don't worry, Québécois become more and more Canadian today, so much so they will soon be completely anglicized - that is, of course, if they don't save themselves by reaching independence at last.

How tiring to be a figurehead. You do nothing wrong but because you’re the person who represents a nation or concept or whatever, you get all the praise and hate.

Je trouve toujours extrêmement difficile de croire que Sa Majesté la reine Élisabeth II n’est plus là - elle était comme la meilleure amie de tout le monde.
