I totally agree with you, Freddie is something else, but Queen is something else. No boxes for them, they always thought outside of the box. A song that showcases all the guys is Liar at the Rainbow.

I love your reactions, your remarks are always on point. Top Of The Pops was a very popular British musical televison show between the 60s and the early 2000s, but all performances were playback. If you listen to it attentively once again, you will notice, that Freddie was harmoninsing with himself. Killer Queen was one song which was really out of the format that I usually write in, said Freddie in a 1974 interview. „Usually the music comes first, but the words came to me, and the sophisticated style that I wanted to put across in the song came first. No, I’d never really met a woman like that. A lot of my songs are fantasy.” I wrote it in one night. „I scribbled down the words in the dark one Saturday night and the next morning I got them all together and I worked all day Sunday and that was it.”

Top of the Pops was a British television show that aired "live" performances that weren't really live; almost like an early MTV/VH1, but music videos didn't exist then. This was it - it was the BIGGEST means of exposure for bands. Everyone watched Top of the Pops to see the newest music, though they did say in later interviews that it was sort of considered uncool for the younger generation. Queen hated Top of the Pops at the time, not only because it was uncool, but because they never lip synched (Roger was super unhappy here because even the drumsticks were fake), but this was before they struck it big and they really had no money at all. It was a HUGE televised opportunity for them, and it paid off! So yes, in effect, this is the only official music video we have for Killer Queen. And yes, it was written by Freddie Mercury. The lyrics are super intricate and intelligent - I believe he earned an award for them! Killer Queen was their first big international hit, especially in Japan. Bohemian Rhapsody didn't come until the following year. Interestingly enough, Top of the Pops played a pivotal role in that iconic music video. They were touring when the song was released, so couldn't perform Bohemian Rhapsody "live" on Top of the Pops. Instead, they quickly and on a low budget recorded the video we all know and love and gave it to the company to release instead of having them perform. It's considered one of the first real music videos, and it was groundbreaking. It was played so often that some versions added flames to the bottom just to show something different on people's screens than what was so omnipresent, haha.

How lucky I was to grow up when Queen were hitting their stride, no two songs were alike. Innovative and influential all at once. Check out Stone Cold Crazy live at the Rainbow and you'll see they influenced speed metal and rap all in one short song.

Love Stone Cold Crazy! Always a shocker to the crowd that only knows 80's Queen in the stadium!!

@@LMTino well they've got to start somewhere! They have us to suggest the rest. I almost always recommend early Queen. How fortunate we are to have such quality recordings of their earlier shows, they really thought of everything from music to sound to lyrics to lighting. True visionaries. With one foot in the present and another in the future, their songs will remain timeless. 👑

There were no music videos back then until Queen made a short film to promote Bohemian Rhapsody. Other bands copied them so essentially Queen created MTV and VH1. 😊

Wow really..they had influence like that?..to the point they set out their own trends?

Yes Freddie wrote this song...the fur coat may , or may not have been influenced by John Lennon in the Beatles singing DON'T LET ME DOWN....the Beatles did a mini concert on the rooftop...it was very cold and John grabbed his wife's fur coat...Freddie loved Lennon, his idol...could you react to PLAY THE GAME, live at Milton Keynes and then do the official video...sings both very differently; one very powerful, the other in falcetto...like both for those reasons

Fashion wise, although looks good, is the worst of looks, it encourages animal killing and horrendous fur farming, the look is far from ahead of its time, it is his most backward look. Very bad for such a brilliant superstar.

Sometime you have to consider the awareness of the time period...you make some good points for considering at our time (political correct) now.
@MrTrevisco2 жыл бұрын
@@Jagangela I have total awareness of the time period and slightly let him off for that, but that was the time when anti-fur was beginning to become public, he may or might not have been aware at the time. This takes nothing away from his brilliance as the musical mastermind that he always was. He was amazing.
