I have made several small ones and I like placing my own colors. The prettiest one I did was alternating print and solid with 2 solid colors. My Christmas quilt was red and green solids and prints- very pretty!

just found a couple jelly rolls at big lots about a month ago. can hardly wait to work on them.....beautiful fabrics and awesome colors. my very first jelly rolls also came tuesday morning.

Kathleen S. These were bought over 5 years ago at Big Lots. I don’t think they carry them now. I haven’t shopped there in a number of years so I really don’t know what they stock. JoAnns and Hobby Lobby carry these smaller jelly rolls but that aren’t as inexpensive as the Big Lots rolls were.

The pillowcases are using a technique called the burrito pillowcase. There are many KZbin videos on how to do these, including one from Missouri Star Quilt Company. That’s where I learned to do them.

Hi, Jean! About two minutes into the video, did I hear correctly when you said you got the jelly rolls at "Big Lots" for $7.50??? Were the jelly rolls a special item in the store for just a short time???

C.J. Ulrich , Jean said those $7.50 jelly rolls from Big Lots only had 24 strips in them. A normal jelly roll has 42 strips in them.

crafty bee different stores have different sizes, personally i have not found any jelly rolls to be had at any sewing outlet.

I sure wish I could get cheaper fabric, jellyrolls in particular, here in Canada. I'm pretty sure the quilt shop in my little town doesn't sell a jellyroll for less than $48 (40 strips). I really want to do a jellyroll race quilt or two!

C.J. Ulrich, I could get those jelly rolls at Big Lot, but my Big Lots hasn't carried them in a number of months. A lot of quilters I know scooped them up when they were available, but they seem to be gone now, Spring 2015

Normal jelly rolls have 40 strips in them. I've seen a few with 42 or 44 or 50 strips, but for the most part, count on 40 strips per roll.
