What's it like to spend seven days at sea and never see dry land! That's what happens when you cross the Atlantic Ocean on the Queen Mary 2. In this episode of @windowseatworldtravel, we hop aboard the only active passenger ocean liner on the planet as we (loosely) retrace the path of the Titanic. What's it like to traverse the icy North Atlantic? Is there enough to do on board the ship? What's it like to leave New York City and never once see a sliver of land under you dock at Southhampton, England a week later? Find out in this episode. And learn about the ship's storied history and the famous people who've stepped aboard similar ships in the past. Plus you'll meet the very special World War II veterans we traveled the ocean with, and learn how they made their mark with everyone else on board.

Not a cruise. It’s a CROSSING. ❤

My first-ever cruise was on the QM2, and we dared to book a round-trip trans-Atlantic crossing, which meant we were at sea for 15 nights! Not once were we bored. We met wonderful people, attended all kinds of enrichment sessions, explored the ship, and relaxed. I think what astounded me most wasn't that we never saw land for a week at a time (we expected as much), but we were stunned at how many birds were flying over the ocean, thousands of miles from land. Those birds have a lot more stamina than I ever imagined!

I was on one of these crossings in June of (from NYC to Southhampton) last year. Listening to the stories from these veterans was absolutely the highlight of the trip for me, especially the gentleman who had been a part of the Tuskegee Airmen.

Nice synopsis. Boredom is a mystery to me. People should revel in the quiet hours at sea away from our “busy, busy, busy” world. Sitting on a deck chair with a good book and not having touristy shore excursions sounds like paradise to me.

She's a great ship. We've been on quite a few ships over the years but our first cruise was on the QM2. We did the transatlantic Southampton, New York, then back to Southampton. Loved every minute of it. It's for us the best ship in the world. And we are back on her in April 2025 for a 2week med cruise.

I did a half world tour on the P&O Aurora. That was a beautiful ocean going ship, definitely not a cruise ship. It was a perfect size. I'd never travel on those huge floating blocks of flats that are killing tourism in many places.

My parents and older sister emigrated from England to the United States in 1954. They were passengers aboard the S.S. America. For the rest of their lives, our mother and father had nothing but lavish praise for their experience on board that ocean liner, back then. We flew to visit Ireland, England and Wales some eleven years later, when the airlines were in their heyday. By that time, travel by ocean liner was quickly declining. While in England that summer, we saw from a distance the 1936 RMS Queen Mary while she was moored at her dock. It must have been Southhampton, but possibly not (I was 7 years of age at the time). The adults in the group were sure of her identity, but we didn't drive any closer. Nevertheless, she was a very large ship, even from where we were - maybe 3/4 of a mile to a mile away.

I took this cruise from England to NYC (Atlantic Crossing) THE most cruise I have ever been on!! I was with my Mom and she like Napkin folding class etc...I hated the "class" system. Yes it was years ago, but I did not like that my waiter talked with me and got in trouble cause he was not supposed to interact with the travelers. I went to Matre De and complained, saying I paid for this trip and want to be able to talk to anyone. Crazy boring stuff. I was crying when I landed in NYC and just wanted to go home. I have been on about 40 cruises..this was worst by far

I think QM2 shouldn't be ends in terms of service as an last ocean liner, there should be another ocean liners after QM2 ,of course to continue services as well as in memory of QM2, the next ocean liners should be QM3 ,her length should be near about 400meter and breadth should be 60 to 62 meter to carry more passengers and to fight very casually against North Atlantic 's unpredictable weather and massive waves due to very rough seas and storms. QM 2 is an remarkable example of an ocean liners which tackles very easily Atlantic's unpredictable weather and massive waves due to rough seas than many modern day cruise ships.

Hello, on arrival to Southampton, how did immigration formalities work? Did everyone had to line up airport style to have their passports checked?
@windowseatworldtravel
@windowseatworldtravel 9 ай бұрын
They actually handle immigration during the cruise - you visit an onboard immigration agent at your appointed day and time during the crossing, they stamp your passport, and you’re all set! It makes getting off the ship a breeze.

@@windowseatworldtravel Btw, I am from Puerto Rico which is why its a bit hard to achieve that "handshake" in the first place haha... If I lived in the states it would be easier to run into one, or go to at least 1 event. But planning a trip to the States just for the handshake is a bit of a stretch 🤣Although well deserved for the Vet lol Which is why this would be an amazing random addition to an already great trip, if I planned it for that date. The Titanic lifeboats were typically filled to just 60%, even less so for the first few lifeboats since the passengers didn’t necessarily believe it would totally sink at first. So the small dogs that survived probably didn’t really take up space from anyone else.
