BoA was one of the first Kpop stars to release an English album in America. "Eat You Up" was released in 2009 as part of her U.S. debut. (She was only 22 years old in this MV and yet she had already been in the industry for more than 9 years.) This song was pretty popular and even made it on the American music charts. She was one of the first Kpop artists to chart in the U.S. -- the song actually was played on some mainstream U.S. radio stations. The choreography for "Eat You Up" it's pretty epic and this MV is so iconic. BoA was selected by SM to become a trainee when she was around 11/12 because of her dancing. She is known as one of the best female dancers in the Kpop industry. But as you can see, she has become an amazing singer and artist as well. She debuted at 13 years old as a solo artist, so that just goes to show you how talented she really is. She has been a Kpop artist for 22 years and a Jpop artist for 20 years, and yet she is only 35. She even starred in the Hollywood dance movie "Make Your Move" in 2014 and it was all in English. Over the years she has become pretty good at English and she is mostly fluent now. The difference between "Eat You Up" and "The Greatest" is the fact that "Eat You Up" is an English song geared toward the American music industry and listeners who may have never even heard of Kpop/Jpop, and "The Greatest" is a song designed for a Jpop/Kpop audience. And just think, "The Greatest" is her most recent song, which means there are more than 11 years between those two MVs, and yet she looks and sounds just as good, even after all this time. :D

The greatest and better are definitely 2 sides of the same coin and really remind me of that whole Janet Jackson type of vibe! Still western music oriented honestly! Just in a more mature way! But she does her thing!

BoA is da Queen!!! Her dancing is unmatched. My friend Collin is actually an extra in The Greatest. He's the black guy in the beret.

BoA was the one that introduced me into the kpop rabbithole many many years ago when i was a child. (Im 33 now qnd still love it all!). EAT YOU UP was her US debut if im not mistaken because MTV here in American would play this video constantly...especially that entire summer after it dropped. It would be in the video countdowns and everything. I remember being sooooo hyped and sooo proud of her. So yes the song was made for the western ear thats why you cant tell its a kpop artist.

Queen Boa! She is upper level for sure. Her dancing skills are top notch. Its an older song, but when I saw her video for "I Did It For Love", I just wished so bad that she had done a collaboration with Janet Jackson. Its one of my favorite choreos and she uses several props. Check it out if you get a chance ...even if you don't react to it ...give it a look if you have time. I discovered her through SHINee as Key was a big fan of hers and actually performed " I Did it for Love" with her a couple of times. They are now very good friends. And Taemin performed " Only One" with her. She had several male artists she performed that song with, but said Taemin was her favorite to dance with. Thank you for your reaction!

I definitely can see the Janet influence in her music. She gives off the same legendary vibe and I love that! And you’re welcome!

110% agree on what you said about having balance in the industry. As a older fan, I find myself gravitating towards more "mature" sounding groups and concepts which we definitely need more of.
@infinitelocke2 жыл бұрын
Yeah like there needs to be more mature concepts to balance out the cutesy stuff we are seeing! All of it is great but there needs to be more balance

What you said at the beginning is exactly the reason why I am more into 1st/2nd generationg groups/solos, and no disrespect no the newest ones 'cause they are all doing an amazing job, but I always feel that the older ones deliver something that feels different every time, something that to me feels more "complete" in a certain way. Thanks for your reaction :)

Yeah I think you can only get a TRUE mature concept from idols that are more experienced in the industry! And you’re welcome!

Eat You Up is such a bop and it really did have a late 2000s dance movie vibe! That was my intro to BoA. If I remember correctly it was Seven, then BoA and then Wonder Girls who were all the first kpop acts to debut in the US!

Loved the reaction. BoA is a great artist. The time between EYU and The Greatest is thirteen years and she debuted at thirteen years. So young. Now she’s not even “old” but people out there acting like she’s seventy-three, haha. But like you said she owned the Girls on Top coreo alongside some of the youngest sm stars. I also agree with what you said about the need for more mature music in kpop. K-pop needs its cute and “refreshing” concepts, it’s so loved and can be a cheerful escape from reality or a reminder of youth. But as you said music lovers know the difference. BoA was an international star because she had an appropriately mature sound - just the vibe in general was r&b influenced dance pop. Mariah C was only 19 when she debuted and it wasn’t bubblegum pop. Janet J was only 16 at her debut and 20 when her Control album rocked the world. Young artists don’t have to do “youth” concepts. They can, like the stars mentioned above, make music for a wide age of music lovers. It’s the key to a long successful career.

Definitely! The cutesy concept is a STAPLE in kpop so it’s always gonna be there but it would be nice to honor older kpop fans who don’t necessarily want to always have to Stan teenagers 24/7. But i think the industry is in a great place currently

Boa = The Legendary Queen of KPop (you have to say the whole thing like when vegeta calls broly, “the legendary super Saiyan”). Yes, she carried the industry on her back during 2nd gen (and had a bunch hits in the Jpop scene as well). She’s got so many hits and jams it puts 98% of most to shame. I still rock My Name, No.1, Girls On Top, Spark, and Kimotchiwa Tsukawaru to this day.

it's just insane when you think about 'the greatest' being the title for her 20th anniversary in japan! she doing this for so long now! 👑 there is a nice interview for her 20th anniversary on the avex channel called 'boa jp 20th - the prologue' where she talks about her career in japan etc with lots of clips and throwbacks. and she sounds so good speaking japanese though. 😊 for another older banger i would recommend her song/mv 'girls on top'! that's a really nice dance beat going on. 😎🤟 the new supergroup 'GOT (girls on top) the beat' was named after that song. 😉

thank you for your reaction. I like this song. the MV is cool, but above all, I like the positive lyrics. she is THE Queen of Kpop in name and reality. she is a role model for all the idols who are active now. she made history in the K-pop world and made her company SM as it is now. For 20 years, her career is very incredible and she has done all kinds of music. if you want to know Kpop, you must listen to BoA's other songs. like Better, Only One, My Name, No. 1, Atlantis Princess etc.

BoA Considerably as the Origin of KPOP. The term KPOP define from BoA strike her Music and Dance to Japan market, while Japan occupied the Leading position of East Asia Music for more than 20 years.(Known as JPOP) No BoA = No KPOP, even my Queen Ailee is her little Fans.
