The girl in Jay Park's video was Sistar's Bora, who is also damn cool. But, this is BoA which quite literally stands for Best of Asia. She debuted in August, 2000, and, is the legit Queen of K-pop. She's the most iconic solo artist in K-pop history. The reason why GOT the beat was that mind-blowing wasn't just because they were talented and were from different generations. There was the fact that Winter hadn't even been born at the time of BoA's debut. A majority of 3rd and 4th gen idols have wanted to become singers because of Girls' Generation, even Karina mentioned she wanted to become an idol after watching GG perform, but the really cool bit is that BoA was the exact same to Girls'Generation. Pre-debut Taeyeon mentioned BoA as one of the reasons why she wanted to be a singer. And, Hyoyeon was even BoA's backup dancer before she debuted. The woman is a living legend and literally all SM idols' boss, and then she goes ahead and debuts in a new girl group in 2022.

BoA doesn’t stand for Best of Asia, it doesn’t stand for anything. It’s literally her name. Her full Korean name is Kwon Bo-a, it’s just stylized as “BoA”. “Best of Asia” is what is called a bacronym.

There is a reason BoA's name is stylized as it is... BoA ie... Best of Asia! Since she was 13 or 14, this young woman has been setting standards, for musicality, for performance, for simply being a human being. She isn't trying to be the Queen of kpop... She IS the QUEEN of kpop!

She was the beginning of the KPOP rabit hole for me. Just seeing how she could rock it in this video and the Only One vid. It woke me up that the world was catching up in creativity, particularly S. Korea. Now I think they surpassed us. The US's creativity is lack luster and been since the 2000's with few exceptions.

Probably one of my favorite BoA videos not just for the song. But the dancing was KILLER! I love dancing, am horrible at it but I enjoy it and BoA fuels my passion in dancing. She really is THE queen of Kpop. She BUILT SM Ent at such a young age. She is just no joke. Ironically, and someone correct me if I'm wrong, I believe she accompanied her brother for the auditions and she was auditioning for dancing only and look at her now!

i had to go watch the JYP fever MV lol thats an actress named Jo Yeo Jeong 2 different girls .... but alot of BoA and BoAhs in K-Pop this is SMTown first Solo Artist. She debuted at 13 in 2000 she is everybody at SMs Sunbae (Senior).... everybody in K-pop period. she has a few sunbae but not many. and none with her status. she is a Janet Jackson status (Royalty) but Beyonce or J.LO Power (breaking News). and she one of the riches idols (from a time when labels were scamming idols) this song is from her America album and sadly came out around 9/11 so it didn't do well

Not sure why she's dubbed the Queen of Kpop when most of her success was in Japan as a Jpop star. She sold 4 million albums in Japan. Only 1.5 million in Korea.

Korean sales (only K-releases): 2,083,325 Korean sales (only J-releases): 168,867 Japanese sales (only J-releases): 7,689,816 Japanese sales (DVD/Blu-ray): 403,349 Grand total of sales: 10,345,357 copies sold This data is from 2019 and doesn't include digital copies. For example in 2012 her Only one album sold over 34,000 physical copies, BUT digital sales were 934,059 and the title track sold over 2 million singles. I don't know why you're trying to put BoA down...because even your bias has mad respect for the queen who started it all.

@@iu2 Japan has their own Jpop queen - Hamasaki Ayumi with sales over 60 million records. BoA is not considered K-pop queen for the sales. She is dubbed that way because of the impact she's had on the industry and K-pop in general. She became a blueprint for making idols. She's idol of the idols. The first Korean superstar. If there weren't for the impact she made back then when social media and KZbin weren't existant - SM would have bankrupt (so no more TVXQ, SNSD, SuJU, Shinee, fx, Exo, Red Velvet, NCT, Aespa...) and the question would be when (or if ever) would a Korean artist be so successful the way she has been and open the door for the 2nd biggest music market in the world. You also need to consider the history between Japan and Korea and what it meant when Japan accepted and celebrated a Korean artist. That's the impact no other Korean artist was able to achieve...and still she reigns supreme with her 21 year long career and 20 full albums (not including mini albums). Singer, dancer, writer, composer, producer, director, actress... BoA.

She was the first ever K-pop artist to successfully make an impact in another country, at a time where K-pop was relegated to its own borders of South Korea. She carved a lane for others to follow and showed people how to do it best, she also helped the relationship between Japan and South Korea get a bit better. At a time where Japan was at its peak popularity. She's not called the queen of K-pop based on sales she's called the queen of K-pop based on impact, she is also the first K-pop artist to appear on the billboard 200 in America, taking K-pop even more international then it already was heading at that time. Her legacy is what makes her the queen of K-pop. With the only other person rivaling her for that title being Lee hyori. Her success in Japan cemented her title and no one can compete with it, also her talents and improvement in dancing over the years has shown that idols from the first and second generation can still keep up with others, she is the best dancer in K-pop male or female and everyone and anyone that's in the industry knows how big and loved she is among the Korean public, BoA is a household name among the public, her name holds weight in the K-pop industry, she's done everything and been everything, her sales combined across Korea and Japan are at 10 million she is the best selling female K-pop idol ever. This is why she is called the queen of K-pop. 😛😛
