This beautiful hymn that I remember from St.Ann"s school in Wildwood New Jersey. We children would walk in the street and the police officers would protect us. I was so lucky to have been taught this devotion to Our Blessed Mother and to participate in the May Procession!

I love the comment from Marianne 9393. I also went to Catholic school in Houston Texas, 1st through 8th grade and 10th grade at Incarnate Word Academy. She just really brought back memories. Assumption church and Catholic school 1955 through fourth grade; then fifth through eighth in little village of Crosby Texas. We sang this song also at Our Mother's crowning each May. Wow now living in beautiful New Mexico. I love New Mexico.

We sang this beautiful hymn every May during our May crowning...an entire Catholic school 500+ children in Chicago. When I became principal at All Saints School in Roswell, NM, I introduced this hymn to the children and I told them my favorite phrase in the hymn was “how dark without Mary life’s journey would be.” Ever since, the school has celebrated May crowning honoring Our Blessed Mother.
