I have to say I love this movie. I understand why a lot of people dislike it. But the music is awesome, and just the aesthetic of it all its just perfect for me. Damn even the story would have been good if it was made as something not related to Lestat and the books of Anne Rice. Like, another vampire or something.

BTW, if you ever want in-depth, spoiler-y recaps of Anne Rice's books, I definitely recommend 'The Naughty Librarian' here on KZbin. I've read many of the books, but that was last in the 80s (hoping to start re-reading them soon), so I found her videos a great refresher. Again, they are all spoilers, as they're straight-up detailed recaps, but they're a good way to get to know some of the lore in a quicker way. (Though, definitely recommend reading the books too!)

Dominic Noble did a great Lost in Adaptation episode on Queen of the Damned, if you are interested (kzbin.info/www/bejne/g53CZXl-ZtSDe8Usi=5CpcFcxjIEsG1vZSl), with TV series context it's pretty easy to understand. He also did TVL and QOTD book recaps. And I'll never forgive this movie for taking several Louis plot points and giving them to Jesse (like being someone whose life Akasha blackmails Lestat with).

I have such a love/hate relationship with this film. There are bits that I love (camp and aesthetics-wise, especially Marius) and the music really grew on me, but it's SOOO different than the two books it basically stitched together! Especially in that they basically straight-washed it, making Lestat essentially straight, giving him the romance with Jesse instead of Louis. Definitely some bizarre choices made. (But at least it's the one portrayal of Armand where he looks like he does in the books, so that's something? But he's BARELY in the film and not even named on-screen, so most people would probably not even know that was him!) The books are much better. (Though I have full confidence the TV show will give the books justice, though it might be a while before we get the 'Queen of the Damned' parts -- season 4? -- and we'll just get the 'The Vampire Lestat' bits of the film only in season 3). P.S. I do kinda love Paul McGann as David in the film though, but then a) David is one of my fave Vampire Chronicles characters and b) McGann is one of my fave actors (but then I'm a massive Whovian). Oh, and you get WAAAAAY more Maharet and Akasha back-story in the 'Queen of the Damned' book. They cut a lot out in the film.

@@kamschronicles I know, right?! You'd never know, especially as they don't name-check any of those ancient vampires in the big standoff at the end. I just knew them because of the book ('Queen of the Damned'), because they're each important to the story.

I think this was before Louie and Lestat and I think that Lestat went to sleep because of his ex-boyfriend. Nicky! I think 🤔 I've been listening to the audiobook of The Vampire Lestat at night. So sometimes I fall asleep and then I have to re listen to it 😂
