Another cool thing was they didn't use crowd duplication or shoot the same group from different angles for the concert. That was 3000 goths and alt kids rocking out to playback in a quarry near Melbourne. They filmed entirely at night in low temperatures in skimpy outfits and they gave it their all the entire time. Even though it wasn't his voice in the movie and the mic wasn't on, Stuart Townsend started really singing and lost his voice because the energy from the audience was so incredibly electric. I love this movie - let me tell you why - twelve years ago I was hopelessly in love with my best friend (she knew this and told me was not gay and didn’t reciprocate my feelings but wanted to stay close friends) - it was around Halloween and we were watching this movie together. In the middle of the movie, inexplicably, SHE KISSES ME. That was 12 years ago. We got engaged two weeks ago. When I asked her why she chose that moment to kiss me, she says she doesn’t know and didn’t plan it and didn’t even really know she wanted to until that moment. So thank you - Queen of the Damned - for kickstarting my relationship with the love of my life. We’ve tried to rewatch it a few times for fun but never actually make it to the end of the movie 😉

Omg, that Amadeus cut was awesome 😂 You can find a deleted scene online of Marius greeting all the other vamps as they arrive but it doesn’t really add... anything... Also now I'm wondering if Sam's delivery of "you wanna find out?" to Antoinette about the beds upstairs was a reference to Jesse saying the same to David. I know the new team never acknowledges that this movie exists (and rightfully so) but still!

I have so many good things/fond memories/endless discussions throughout the last two decades with my bestie, various family members, and eventually even with my longtime life-partner all wrapped up around this movie....and so on. It may not be the movie for everyone, and it may definitely have been sorely slacking in certain respects as an adaptation of the original source material especially, but I will recognize zero shade. I saw QOTD after Season 2. It was good, Aaliyah’s final cinematic performance, thrilling. Vincent Perez’s performance as Marius was enticing. I watched this movie for the first time recently: The music? Nice :D Akasha? Yes :D Some costume decisions? Great. Anything else? Aaaaaaah I just CAN'T get over the drastic changes from the books, there were too many! Wonder what it would be like to go back in time and see the movie before I knew the show and books. I like the emo atmosphere though xD
@Heyitslia212 ай бұрын
I will say in their defense about the akasha situation, they basically could only film so much due to Aaliyah’s passing. I think that effected the entire movie as a whole
@user-io2ts6mj9n2 ай бұрын
Come on its not so bad, other than Lestat being brunette, Armand being a blonde, Marius turning Lestat, Lestat turning Jesse, Maharet being just one twin and there are no signs of Louis, Nicky and Gabrielle, this is pretty accurate 😂

ok, here me out. Is this movie nothing like the books (cause its supposed to be both "the vampire Lestat" and "queen of the damned" adapted together)? yes. Am i usually a book purist? yes, but i saw this first. Did i happen to see this movie at a very crucial young age and it was a huge part of my sexual awakening? also yes. Is this soundtrack one of my favorite things ever? also also yes. So basically, is this my biggest guilty pleasure ever? 10000000% and i will not apologize for it 😂

Yep, the memories of me as a kid watching this film on the telly are coming back, and it's still just as cheesy. 😂 But Aaliyah is still super cool, hot and badass as the Queen of the Damned. (Edit: Yep, Yamaha makes keyboards and motorcycles, and a hell of a lot more which surprised me.)

New Autumn content!! Yay! I was just finishing your video trilogy of the Vampire Chronicles as LDR albums (a masterpiece of a trilogy, might I add) today, so seeing this pop up in my feed was a fun little surprise!! I do have to know: how does the QotD movie rank when grouped with the IWTV tv series and the IWTV movie for you? Any hot takes about the tv show/movies/books?
@AutumnBottomBrown2 ай бұрын
@@isabellaalvarado3496 oh thank you, the TVC/LDR series is my beloved little cherub. As far as rankings go the IWTV show is by far my favorite. I can literally gush for days on end (and have) about why I love it so much. But I do really love the movie as well; it was my first introduction to this world. I’m so glad we have Jacob Anderson, someone who actually cares about the character, in the role of Louis now- I will always sing his praises. But at times Brad Pitt’s real life abhorrence for the movie actually work in his favor to show Louis’s despair and antipathy. But other times he kills me. Lestat is Tom Cruise’s best performance in my opinion; he absolutely floored me in the movie. Sam is my favorite Lestat (he was seriously engineered in a lab to play this character, I don’t think his performance can be touched), but I do not tolerate TomStat slander either. He really embodied the character in a way I never would have expected or thought possible for ole Maverick. And we’ve been blessed with all three varied and gorgeous portrayals of Claudia; I love Kirsten, Bailey, & Delainey dearly in this role. As far as QotD goes though…. In the words of Aretha: “beautiful gowns”

@@AutumnBottomBrown you’re very welcome! I’ve re watched those videos a couple times since deciding to read the whole VC series (minus the Mayfair witches- I have not decided yet if I’ll read those or not). I just finished the Vampire Armand and while I have grown to understand and appreciate Armand as a character more (Assad Zaman you’ll always be the perfect Armand to me), I miss our boy Lestat as the narrator. I also had a very similar introduction to the series: my mom actually got me into the movie at 12-13 and I was obsessed with it for a long time. There are probably lines I could still quote from memory. After that I read the first book, loved it, re read it a few times in high school and in college, and it wasn’t until I finished season 2 this past July/August that I decided to give the rest of the series a shot. I will always have a special place in my heart for that movie, especially for Tom Cruise and Kirsten Dunst. Learning that Brad Pitt had a not so great time on that movie honestly broke my heart a little bit bc I related a lot to Louis in both the movie and the book. And my god, the show!!! I love and am forever appreciative of everyone involved in it so far. You can just tell how much love and care they all have for the series. I could gush about the series forever. As for the books: I’ve liked every single one I’ve read so far. The first 3 are the top three for me so far, body thief was very fun, Memnoch made me think a lot and was an interesting read, and the vampire Armand was either a good time or a “oh my god, this poor child” type of vibe. I’ll either get Pandora or Merrick next and I’m excited and scared. Anne Rice really loves her freaky little vampires, but so do we.

Aaliyah as Akasha was great in this movie. Can't wait to see who they will cast for her for the TV series.

my anne rice journey started with this movie as a pre=teen - i think i loved the numetal bisexual vibes more than i realised how much it lacked a plot. i got more into vampire media as a teenager and watched the interview with the vampire movie, and now the series exists and i have read interview with the vampire, lestat and queen of the damned, so it's interesting to see how the series has been interpreted by different studios

To be fair to the movie, Aaliyah passed away before she was finished making the movie. They had to work with what they had to keep her in the movie. Her brother is even doing some of the voice overs for Aaliyah.
@AutumnBottomBrown5 күн бұрын
@@monicarayford522 I’ve seen a couple of people say this, but they wrapped filming in February of 2001, and Aaliyah died in August of that year. I watched an interview where they talked about using her brother’s voice to patch some ADR, but that’s supplementary post-production work. It’s not anything that would change the structure of the film. All shooting was complete by the time she passed, so I’d assume this is still the same movie they would’ve put out had she been alive to see the end result. Rest in Peace Aaliyah 🙏

Listen, listen, I know now having gotten into the TVC/IWTV fandom extremely recently (like 3 months ago) that this movie is NOTHING like it should have been … However, My god do I love this movie holy fuck, LMAO. Can remove Jesse for sure, I always thought she was just kinda There. But Akasha and Lestat are so fucking hot in this movie I’m sorry. I was confused bc I had watched the IWTV Movie before watching this back then, and Brad Pitt vs Townsend is SO different lmao I thought they just happened to be two vampires w the same name but those two properties had nothing to do with each other lmao. I was shown this movie a few months ago by a friend who had been trying to get me to watch it for a long time. After she showed me the movie, I had to tell her that I didn't really care for it and it's not a favorite and that I believe Aaliyah should've had more scenes in the movie, especially since it is called The Queen of the Damned. I also told her that while it's not the best movie, it does have a good soundtrack. She thankfully agreed with me on the soundtrack part and I do listen to the songs from movie and even dance to them a bit when I can. I would play that soundtrack for everyone to hear and enjoy on Halloween if I could I hope that the show in the future at some point will play the song System as a nod to Aaliyah since that's the song she was dancing to in the movie or if not that than something else.

"On a less somber note;" I loved some actors so much: Aaliyah was spot on as Akasha, Marguerite Moreau was lovely as Jesse, Vincent Peréz, Paul Gann, Lena Olin as Maharet, Claudia Black as Pandora. omg! But still the movie is wrist cut inducing disappointing with some great actors tossed in this stinky tuna salad of a movie. If it wasn't for being part of Vampire Chronicles it wouldn't bother; but at least they tried to make something for the Vampire Chronicles fans. Now I'm very thankful for everyone who made this movie, now I appreciate it for it's silliness, for some bad acting, and all the silly bs it created... lol. It was also a sad time because we were seeing on the screen a beautiful young actress who passed away just 6 months prior; we we're doomed to watch it still kinda in morning all over again. Nowadays I just put the judgement and sadness and the past to the side, along with the popcorn, and appreciate it to the bits.
