Brian’s research was not and still is not a “waste of time” - in fact, the work he began in the 70s (and completed in 2007) has turned out to be highly relevant in current cutting-edge work now. To this day, he often participates in projects with NASA and the European Space Agency - including melding astrophysics with his other passion 3-D Stereoscopic Imaging. The 3-D images he and others have compiled from the data brought in from space missions is an important part of understanding and visualizing all these new discoveries. Brian understands that Art and Science do not have to be mutually exclusive - he is a modern-day version of a Renaissance Man.

He actually has an asteroid named after him! The other three members have college degrees as well: Roger has a degree in biology, Freddie a degree in Arts and Design and John a degree - with honors - in electrical engineering . Queen has - of cause - participated in celebrating THE Queen. 21 years ago the took part in celebrating her golden jubilee as Queen with Brian playing on the roof of Buckingham Palace - like "The lonely piper" - of cause playing the national Anthem - God Save the Queen. Last year they opened the celebration in front of Buckingham Palace - in front of thousands. That was her Platinum Jubilee (70 years) as monarch. Both occasions were televised and can be found on YT. - as well as interviews about them. It was large arrangements - and not without problems - but delivered with perfection.

Just on an historical factual note, this interview was not backstage during Live Aid, it was done during a gap in their rehearsals a few days beforehand at the Shaw Theatre in London.

Good reaction. In regard to the value of research of astrophysics and cosmic dust - some knowledge is needed. 100 tons of cosmic dust falls to earth every day, you breath it in every day. It is also believed now that excess amounts triggered the ice age. Fast forward to current topics….the issue of climate change. Only a little reach would help to explain, you may find it interesting! Also, astrophysics study and equipment development has leant knowledge and evolution to medical imaging, as one example of the many technological developments that we use and assist us in many ways every day 🤓

You can see 2 things here, they still love each other, but you still see the friction with Freddie. I remember this day like yesterday, we had a gig and our support band had their gear stolen out of their van so we had to rally around and borrow stuff from other bands we new locally. So I got my mum to record it on VHS !!!
