The crowd were actually being very subdued because the filming company had told them to be quiet. Freddie was not happy with this and told them to move around if they wanted to. You might see some footage of the second night's concert when Freddie is barefoot and just wearing shorts and a hat! That was because the film company asked the band to wear the same clothes on both nights for continuity. The 'outfit' Freddie wore was in response to being told what to wear! 😂😂😂

The face on the drum was drawn by Freddie Mercury of Roger as Roger Taylor is the drummer with the beautiful high voice & was hidden by such a huge drum set. As Freddie had a graphic arts degree he drew a picture of Roger and put it on the drums. Freddie also designed the Queen logo with each member’s horoscopes blended around the letter Q on the word Queen. Freddie was definitely otherworldly. If you watch the documentary Days of our Lives you’ll learn a bit about Queen. Brian said that when Freddie first heard his recorded voice he hated it and to be honest he was kinda all over the place live in 1970’s when they were forming. So Mercury practiced over and over and taught himself how to control his breath and use his large jaw and tongue to sing until he was satisfied. Each member was intelligent, talented and perfectionists. They took their jobs as musicians seriously and Freddie and Brian, Roger and John were bursting with ideas about creating a show with lights, fireworks, smoke machines, etc.

This performance!!!!! The reason for the face on the drum is: The face is Roger the drummer but because his kit is so huge, he is hidden from the audience most of the time. One story is that Freddie felt Roger deserved some face time since he is such an important component of the band, also because he is singing a whole lot of the time but nobody gets to see him. Recently this whole concert was showing for 2 weeks in IMAX theaters in the US. It was so amazing it was truly like being at the concert. I went back to see it a second time it was so good. Because these two shows were being filmed (this is 8mm film, not video tape) the audience was kept out for the most part because the company filming did't want it to look like two shows. Band members had to wear the exact same clothes both shows, the audience was told to stay in their seats and not move around. That really pissed Freddie off and at one point in this show you can see Freddie telling the audience that they can move around that it is okay with the band. Freddie rebelling because he wanted people to be comfortable and enjoy themselves. So the audience wasn't really shown much in the videos from Montreal.

You did great! You are not wrong about the Live versions almost always being better than their studio versions. Whether you react or not, I encourage watching both this whole concert (Montreal '81) and the whole Wembley '86 concert . Both are exquisite! Roger Taylor's face is on the bass drum... including his red eyes that exhibit his love of drinking (more back in the day than now). Another commenter explained how the face got on there in the first place. Roger deserves a LOT of recognition for his incredible voice. His vocally supporting Freddie (as well as Dr. Sir Brian May supporting Freddie vocally) is just amazing. I don't think we know, or at least I haven't seen it, what Freddie ate for breakfast. For lunch, dinner, and afterparties... it was a wholllle lotta white stuff. I am sure that Brian, Roger, and Freddie sang just as beautifully without it. Brian and Roger still sing and their voices are just lovely. Good job, Dan! Thank you for this!
@susanengland39193 ай бұрын
The face on the drum was Freddie's idea. He didn't think it was fair that the crowd couldn't see Roger behind the drum set, so he had them put Roger's face on the3 drum.

The drinks on the piano are mostly tea with honey and lemon and water. Freddie has a chef prepare his meals, a friend from the USA who is part of his household, so he eats very well. His aide, Peter Freestone said Freddie has tea and 2 pieces of toast with jam for breakfast at 9 a.m. every morning

Freddie was the absolute best ever but please give the other members credit. This performance would not have been as epic without Roger on that drum kit. Poor guy had to sing with his head sideways and drum without looking! The guys weren’t too happy with film crew and security at this 2 night event. They told the audience to stay in their seats and not sing or participate. They wanted the band to wear the same clothes both nights so they could interchange the songs in the movie they would make from this. Freddie got really upset and came out the 2nd night with shorts, hat and a bandana and nothing else. Haha!
