Love Freddie's little 'kick' on his way up front of the stage. He's my favorite! Well, as you want to hear this song's album version, I'd recommend watching the Official Video (since they are lip-synching you'll get your wish of hearing the album version ! plus visual!). Anyway, "Who Wants To Live Forever" opens with BRIAN singing the first part. It's so cool.

Each member wrote songs for the movie Highlander. This is Brian May’s song. Try Freddie’s pounding song: Princes of the Universe and Deacon’s ballad One Year Of Love-the only Queen song that uses a saxophone and not a guitar for the solo. The whole soundtrack is awesome from heavy metal to sweet ballads. If Freddie had lived they would have done more music for movies I’m sure. It’s heartbreaking to contemplate.

I love this Budapest version! Freddie’s vocals are “crispy and perfect”. Brian’s songwriting skills never cease to amaze me! Altho! All the Queen’s men are legit Hall of Fame Songwriters! 💪🎶💪🎶 You should react to the studio version of WHITE QUEEN (very Tolkien) 🧝🏻♀️

I'm glad you liked it. It is one of my favorite ballads, with a beautiful, emotional and powerful performance by Freddie. You should listen to the studio version, with the orchestra and the children's choir. Brian sings the first verse although I don't particularly like him as a singer on this occasion. Anyway, Brian is an excellent songwriter. One of his greatest gems is The Show Must Go On, from the album Innuendo, 1991. It's a must, as is the song Innuendo itself.

@@lidiavilasecaperramon6983 you have the drama when Freddie starts to sing it, from the second verse, and during the coda. The first verse isn't supposed to be dramatic, it was supposed to be quiet and mellow and it fits Brian's voice perfectly. The song goes through moods, not each section of it has to be dramatic.

The video features the album version w/ orchestra and youth choir. John is on double bass. You gotta feel for Freddie in this Budapest concert. Harder for him, but leaves EVERYthing on the stage. The last show on this tour at Knebworth...while no great live footage, there is a pre-opening ...and one of Freddie coming off the stage at the end. Spent. And then it was over. The last live concert.

They did the music for the movie Highlander which I’ve never seen but the music is great! 5:30 "is that the whole song" - yes but no! 🙂 It's pretty much like the cut down single/radio/video version of the song, which (unfortunately) fades out earlier (4:10) The song is for a soundtrack, so *the album version is a minute longer* and has more of the orchestra score for the movie (especially at the end). While those two versions have Brian May sing the first verse, on the version you hear in the movie itself Freddie sings the whole song.
@celsonicoliniTV4 ай бұрын
The album version of Who Wants to Live Forever is the closest to the film, with a long instrumental ending, the only difference is that Brian May shares vocals with Mercury on the track while in the film Freddie sings alone. In the single version of the song, the verse is repeated until the final fade. In the live version, unfortunately there is no choir or orchestra. One of the most emotional scenes in Highlander is where Who Wants to Live Forever plays. The song is so important that composer Michael Kamen also included an orchestral version of the song on the soundtrack. Queen composed all the songs on Highlander.

Yeah, check out the album version, its quite epic. The lead in the first verse and during the bridge is sung by May. It has a great orchestral outro too. Very emotional song, when you pair with a scene from the movie "Highlander", but also when you think of Freddie and his illness.... There is a rumour that while being in Munich during the Magic tour (less then a month before the Budapest show) Freddie went to visit some of his old friends (he has lived in Munich during the early to mid 80's) only to find out that some of them were already gone or very ill, which is when his mortality hit him hard, perhaps for the first time. The awareness of this issue hit its peak in Munich around this time, as exemplified by a German newspaper article on AIDS stating that the reaper was "cleaning Munich's streets." That affected Freddie's vibe during the show, he was visibly not in the best of moods. He would introduce the song by adding "I mean, who really does, anyway?"

I like this concert but I think that the songs are softer than Wembley's, or trying to be more correct, the band is more relaxed, in the two days at Wembley I believe ther rock a bit more. The three live versions of this song are amazing and I like the top point in each version doesn't be in the same point, for me.

What Justin wanted to know is whether all of the songs on the A Kind of Magic album were recorded for the Highlander movie. I think that about 4 or 5 of the songs were recorded for the movie. One Vision was not, for example. Friends Will Be Friends is another that has nothing to do with the movie.
@maciejkowalski27594 ай бұрын

I have a soft spot for ONE YEAR OF LOVE from the film. The instrumentals feel studio applied in an R&B format. But it is just Freddie & John, who plays all but the sax. Freddie's vocals are on a different plain and just sweep me away. Those Freddie & John collaborations have something unique about them.

The Kind of Magic Album had a number of songs that were written for the movie Highlander. They were only partially completed for the needs of particular scenes. Later, they were finished in the studio for the album. Yes, Queen is dramatic. They believed they were in the entertainment business as well as the music business, and made a point of saying this in their interviews. This is why they were the rock band picked to write the scores for Flash Gordon and Highlander. Nice see you liked this one.
