@@KayleighNatasha you said it perfectly. From what I can tell, he can sing better than a lot of pop stars from the last 15-20 years. I won't name anyone, but I can think of three of the top of my head. I think he was just intimidated by the other three, much like he said about being the new guy and being more reserved in his performance. Because if you think about it, how many bands out there can say that all their members could hold their own vocally?

Freddie was the flamboyant lead singer... Roger was considered the sexy one... Brian, not only on lead guitar but also like the more sensible one... At times But some people let John Deacon fall through the cracks... Which is a shame... He is such an awesome musician and bass player... Sure he's quiet, but the good ones are usually the quiet shy ones. He deserves way more recognition than what people give him!!!

Oh yes, he can too sing! He's done backing vocals on occasion and he has a very pleasant voice. My guess is that with Freddie's and Roger's exceptionally flashy, distinctive vocals and Brian's very handsome voice, Deaky decided to step away from the mic and let them do their thing while he did his on the bass. And double bass. And keyboards. And sometimes drums. And on paper writing some of their best-loved songs. Ah, sweet Deak...the quiet and unassuming, shy and retiring Queen. You are a missed person.💖

@@deaky7675 - I heard them live and he did some backup in a few songs and I thought he was OK. No Freddie by comparison but who is? I think it was just shyness. Brett .Davies, You realize that "Ice Ice Baby" by Vanilla Ice came out in 1988 and "Under Pressure" by Queen came in 1982, right? You also must remember that Queen sued Vanilla Ice for using their bass line for his only major hit... John Deacon and the rest of Queen never stole any music from nobody! They had more creativity in their finger nails than Vanilla Ice will ever have. Please think hard before posting next time so you won't look so unprepared!

AWWWWW! John is just too cute! Its too bad he didn't think he could sing, I'm sure he wasn't that bad, its like my mom thinks she can't sing but she's really good! I thinks its not whether he can sing, but that he is too self conscious of what others will think if he does! Poor little underrated John doesn't get much spotlight and I think he should be way more credited for everything he did, especially this incredibly awesome piece at the end! John Deacon, Well done my love!

John deserves just as much recognition as the rest of the band. He was the calming glue, just as smart and talented and his dance moves, bass lines and his Deaky amp are legendary. Three, I think. You're My Best Friend, Another One Bites the Dust, and I Want To Break Free. It's retarded when some think the only good basslines are extremely complex ones that require you to play 1/32nd notes at 220 BPM. Just TRY writing a simple, memorable, melodic bassline like Crazy Little Thing Called Love, or A Kind of Magic, and you'll instantly appreciate John Deacon's skill as a musician.

Perhaps John is living "too" quite live. He said he was starting on his MSc (perhaps in electronic too like his BSc?) when the band took off same as Brian starting his Ph.D. in astrophysics. Brian finished up his doctorate after 30 years, I don't see any reason why he didn't complete the master degree. He and Brian were our examples that pursuing the education in S&T can be parallel with your hobby.
