This was the first song my brother Dan learned to play on a guitar. He died three days ago. He could play absolutely anything Brian May could play as well as anything Freddie could on a his baby grand piano. I will greatly miss my brother.

I cry at some point nearly every day thinking about that great man. Today I wore shorts in honor of my brother. He always wore shorts to Christmas get together no matter what Missouri's weather was on our gathering day. My sons wore shorts to his funeral. He died on the exact day and time the great Chet Atkins day. Knowing him it was the exact time as well. Let that be pondered. His wife died 1 1/2 months later after the doctor told them together exactly what would now transpire. Atlas could no longer hold the Earth up any longer. We were River partners we did everything together we caught big ass Small Mouth and slept in gravel bars together for days at a time fishing and also staying up all night long listening to e everything zquuen and Smile e er produced and bootlegs too.

Tenement Funster: My new purple shoes Been amazin' the people next door And my rock 'n roll forty fives Been enragin' the folks on the lower floor I got a way with the girls on my block Try my best to be a real individual And when we go down to smokies and rock They line up like it's some kind of ritual Oh give me a good guitar And you can say that my hair's a disgrace Or just find me an open car I'll make the speed of light outta this place I like the good things in life But most of the best things ain't free It's the same situation just cuts like a knife When you're young and you're poor and you're crazy Young and you're crazy... Oh give me a good guitar And you can say that my hair's a disgrace Or just find me an open car I'll make the speed of light outta this place Flick of the Wrist: Dislocate your spine if you don't sign he says I'll have you seeing double (double) Mesmerize you when he's tongue-tied Simply with those eyes, ooh ooh ooh Synchronize your minds and see The beast within him rise Don't look back Don't look back It's a rip-off Flick of the wrist and you're dead baby Blow him a kiss and you're mad, ooh ooh ooh ooh Flick of the wrist - he'll eat your heart out A dig in the ribs and then a kick in the head He's taken an arm and taken a leg All this time honey Baby you've been had Intoxicate your brain with what I'm saying If not you'll lie in knee-deep trouble Prostitute yourself he says Castrate your human pride, ooh ooh ooh Sacrifice your leisure days Let me squeeze you till you've dried Don't look back Don't look back It's a rip-off, aah, aah, aah Work my fingers to my bones I scream with pain I still make no impression Seduce you with his money-make machine Cross-collateralize, (big-time money money) Reduce you to a muzak-fake machine Then the last goodbye It's a rip-off Flick of the wrist and you're dead baby Blow him a kiss and you're mad, ooh ooh ooh ooh Flick of the wrist - he'll eat your heart out A dig in the ribs and then a kick in the head He's taken an arm, and taken a leg All this time honey Baby you've been had Lily of the Valley: I am forever searching high and low But why does everyone tell me 'no'? Neptune of the seas, an answer for me please The lily of the valley doesn't know I lie in wait with open eyes I carry on through stormy skies I follow every course; my kingdom for a horse But each time I grow old Serpent of the Nile, relieve me for a while And cast me from your spell, and let me go Messenger from seven seas has flown To tell the king of Rhye he's lost his throne Wars will never cease Is there time enough for peace? Aryan Jain, i think as someone who loves and comprehends the intricacies of my favorite era of music (1966-1980) ones ability to listen to a band, hear the song as whole and at the same time be able to separate each individual instrument and vocal is the difference between people who "just like the song" and those that "get it" referring to music lovers who actually realize how much work and practice goes in to getting those sounds that move us. the bass and drums are the foundation of of my favorite music. the guitar solos, keyboards,sax solos and vocals are icing on the cake for most bands, but deep down inside it's the bass and drums that keep your foot tappin' or your head bobbin' to the tune. i'm not preaching, this is jmo.cheers from canada!
@aryan5695
@aryan5695 6 жыл бұрын
@@jeffcampbell668 Yes, exactly! I totally get what you're saying, and completely agree. I'm talking about "those" people. People seem to assume bass is "easy" and don't give it much importance. Not saying everything else isn't as important, though.

Like great jazz it took me a while to appreciate this, but I'm now convinced that these three tracks together are the finest, most technically complex and thematically varied piece of music Queen has ever written. Just listen to Brian May's mesmerising guitar work on both Tenement Funster and Flick of the Wrist. Incredibly powerful. His work on Flick of the Wrist sounds almost random and meandering, but it ties the whole stretch of music together wonderfully. And then there's the beautiful and soothing Lily of the Valley to tie it up. Just sublime from start to finish.

My big brother Steve introduced our whole family to Queen, he would have been 61 on 1/5/‘23 (he died a couple of weeks after his 58th birthday) I always loved his playing of this album & tbh any Queen album, anything up to & including News of The World would be cranked up to 11 (or maybe even 12). I didn’t go to his funeral. I wanted to remember him in his late teens when he was so full of life & as he said himself “I’m a lover not a fighter!” if you knew Steve you know what I mean. he was Steve to us but to his mates he was Jacko! he even had it tattooed on the back of his neck fgs! anyway Steve, this one’s for you “Big Bad Steve!” 🥰

Lyrics: My new purple shoes Been amazin’ the people next door And my Rock N’ Roll 45’s Been enragin’ the folks on the lower floor I’ve got a way with the girls on my block Try my best be a real individual And when we go down to Smokies and rock, They line up like it’s some kind of ritual Ooh, give me a good guitar, And you can say that my hair’s a disgrace Or just find me an open car I’ll make the speed of light outta this place I like the good things in life, But most of the best things ain’t free And this same situation, just cuts like a knife When you’re young, and you’re poor, and you’re crazy Ooh, give me a good guitar, And you can say that my hair’s a disgrace Or just find me an open car I’ll make the speed of light outta this place Dislocate your spine if you don’t sign, he says “I’ll have you seing double” Mesmerize you when he’s tounge-tied, Simply with those eyes Synchronize your mind and see The beast within him rise... Don’t look back! Don’t look back! It’s a rip-off Flick of the wrist, and you’re dead, baby Blow him a kiss, and you’re mad Flick of the wrist, he’ll eat your heart out A dig in the ribs, and then a kick in the head He’s taken an arm, and taken a leg All this time honey, Baby, you’ve been had Intoxicate your brain with what I’m saying, If not you’ll lie in knee-deep trouble Prostitute yourself, he says “Castrate your hunan pride, Sacrifice your leisure days, Let me squeeze you ‘till you’ve dried” Don’t look back! Don’t look back! It’s a rip-off Work my fingers to my bones, I scream with pain I still make no impression Seduce you with his money-make machine, Cross-collateralize (Big time, money, money!) Reduce you to a Muzak-fake machine Then the last goodbye (It’s a rip-off) Flick of the wrist, and you’re dead, baby Blow him a kiss, and you’re mad Flick of the wrist, he’ll eat your heart out A dig in the ribs, and then a kick in the head He’s taken an arm, and taken a leg All this time honey, Baby, you’ve been had I am forever searching high and low, But why does everybody tell me no? Neptune of the seas, An answer for me, please? The lily of the valley doesn’t know I lie in wait wih open eyes, I carry on through stormy skies I follow every course, My kingdom for a horse But each time I grow old, Serpent of the Nile, Relieve me for a while, And cast me from your spell and let me go Messenger from Seven Seas has flown, To tell the king of Rhye he’s lost his throme Wars will never cease Is there time enough for peace? But the lily of the valley doesn’t know...

THIS, and the 1st 3 albums is what I think of when I think of Queen. When they were a rock band, a prog rock band. Sure the moment Killer Queen became a single, and the other members saw money pouring in for Freddie, that changed everything. And to me, pretty much everything up through Day at the Races, was pure gold. And yes, NOTW, and Jazz had moments...and all the other albums had bright spots, but it's hard to hit this level of brilliance repeatedly.

Such a great medley as this, stands on the segues of its three songs. You need that angry, aching beauty of that singular "feedback" note on May's guitar from Flick of the Wrist to properly introduce Lily of the Valley. Hard to imagine it without it. By the way, probably the most effective use of "feedback" sound (it mimics a feedback) on a rock album.
