From the website Songfacts: Brian May had the dream that inspired this song years before he wrote it. He wasn't trying to push any religious agenda with the lyric, but he did want to convey a message. "In the dream, people were walking on the streets trying to touch each other's hands, desperate to try and make some sign that they were caring about other people," he told Melody Maker in 1975. "I felt that the trouble must be - and this is one of my obsessions anyway - that people don't make enough contact with each other. A feeling that runs through a lot of the songs I write is that if there is a direction to mankind, it ought to be a coming together and at the moment, it doesn't seem to be happening very well."
Yessssss !!! You have embellished my daytime with this reaction of this absolute masterpiece ! Love this one so much (too) On the album you directly go from this one to Love of my Life without any transition in such a lovely way...
I love the layers and the story telling, especially Queen 70’s. I don’t think I will ever tire of listening to their music. I love the way you pick up intricate things in their music. Keep going.😍🙏❤️
I agree! I love the way he really gets into the songs and picks up on so many things that most people never pick up on. I think that’s what makes Hap3’s reactions so great to watch. He definitely goes into them with a clean slate and just lets the music take him wherever it goes. Bravo♥️

Yaaaaaasssss love the reaction! Great song to drive too no one can see ya singing it lol Keep em coming 👍🏻😎
I have to say, I'm always looking forward to your reactions. You point out things even a hardcore fan sometimes miss. And I can only agree to the suggestion to listen to Queen with headphones on. This way you won't miss anything. It's an old habit from me anyway and this way there's more to enjoy. Another thing I'd like to point out is how effortlessly Freddie can adjust his voice to every genre and style of music. He's unbelievable versatile and his ability to colour a single note with emotion, to give every line a different nuance and glue it all together to a masterpiece is outstanding. You're not only listen to Freddie sing, you basically feel the song as well.
The middle A Cappella (not acoustic) section, as others have said, is Freddie singing into a tape machine with delay. That machine plays what he just sang and a second one plays after another delay. Both machines play while he is singing so he is singing with himself delayed twice, as you can hear in right and left. The fun part is when he sings "come here" then immediately sings "I You" so that in the playback you hear "come here, I hear you". This live delay is also how Brian does his solo in Brighton Rock. Brian's dream could have been when he was very sick with meningitis before the Sheer Heart Attack album, but didn't write the song until the next one. He apparently wrote She Makes Me ( Stormtroopers in Stilletos) during that time, another rather trippy Brian May song.
I think that you have to listen to this song with head/earphones in to appreciate it in its entirety! Love the long panning acoustic section, masterpiece!
@@HAP3SPEAKZ it's a very good thing that you remind people to do so, especially new Queen listeners! As for me..I remember when BoRap was released, yes I am that old 🤣🤣🤣

One of their best and underappreciated and underrated songs. Freddie's voice is so powerful here, and what you hear is their 'royal' sound, which make you recognize that this is Queen the first second you hear them. Beautiful.

Someday, just put on your headphones or sit in a quiet room and listen to "A Night At The Opera" from beginning to end. It's really the way it was meant to be enjoyed. When I was 10 yo in '75, I went to my friend's house and we sat in her brother's room and listened to this just like that. He had his speakers set up across the room from one another so we got the whole panning effects. I was speechless. It made me an instant Queen fan, at 10 yo.

Love your reactions! Yes headphones are needed for that one. They pushed recording techniques available at the time to the absolute limit to achieve the sound they wanted. A bit of an abrupt end as the album version goes straight into Love Of My Life. Try and listen to the 2 tracks together. The best 12 minutes of music you will ever hear.
Loved your reaction to this HAP! Yes, Queen made the music they wanted and they were absolutely involved in the production side as well!! These songs were like their babies 😂. This one reminds me a bit of the March of the March of the Black Queen. This is a great song for sure!! 💜⭐️👑🌻
This is Brian’s masterpiece. When I think of the lyricks is almoust they singing about the world today, and Whats happen all around, death’s all around, and listen to the wice man, listen to the mad man, dont laf at the mad man......yeah I think its a little scary, he really sing about today. And they did that in many of their song i think. Thank you for a fantastic interesting reaton from you, as always, stay well and healthy......love from Norway 🇳🇴

Brian May wrote this song!! In the early years were four about the first five to seven years Brian and Freddie Mercury used to write most of the song but by about 1979 or 1980 they were all 4 writing like mad. John Deacon was the Dark Horse and quiet but he could come out of nowhere like a madman with a number one hit.

To me, this song sounds futuristic, as if after an apocalypse. I enjoyed your reaction, your attention to small details and your appreciation for Queen's more experimental side. Over the years Queen trained their fans to expect the unexpected, to be surprised. That gave them so much freedom with their songwriting, and created for them a very devoted fan base.

I don't know if anyone has mentioned this yet, but the end with the guitar actually leads into Love of My Life (that's why it cuts off a bit). This is where context matters on a "concept" album like Night at the Opera. Can you imagine that, an incredibly epic song, lyric and audio-wise, melting away into something as simple like Love of My Life? (Brian learned how to play the freaking HARP just for this.) Anyway, loved your reaction, it's definitely a trip!

After listening to this, go to Queen doing this song at Earl's Court in 1977. It is an amazing, eerie and awesome piece of music, done by Freddie, who sings in harmony with himself on 2-second delay.
That acoustic middle section shows the absolute genius of Freddie Mercury. It was done using a delay machine (new technology at the time). Freddie went into the vocal booth and improvised some vocals, which were then fed through the delay machine twice, with the result that Freddie was able to create three-part harmonies with *himself* through the use of impeccable timing and pitch.

There is some medieval influence in this song, I think, beautiful 💕
Brian always used multiple echo devices so he could play harmonies with himself during concerts. Freddie used this technique to do the middle vocal section live. Always innovating.

Masters of pulling that rug right under you. This song should be studied both musically and lyrically. Prophetic like’39, also Brian May, they had vision on so many levels. Just before this I watched your reaction Now I’m Here at Wembly.. Serious rock and roll, all the way. And now this really deep complex song. Through Love of My Life in there. Really scaled boundaries beautifully. Just brilliant.💋

I think this song was quite prophetic (no pun intended!!😃) . Think of our current situation and the fact that close human contact is currently being frowned upon. The 2 lines that stand out most clearly to me are "These kings of beasts now counting their days" , "And death all around will be your Dow'ry". I know that Brian spent some time in Arizona being treated for severe depression. I have often wondered if the tribal/spiritual influences of the area had any impact on his writing of this song. I'm not certain at what point in time he was in Arizona (before or after this was written).
He was in Arizona after Freddie and his father died.,so that had nothi ng to do with this song

Queen was heavily into exploring overdubbing during the production of the album, A Night at the Opera. There was so much overdubbing on some of their recordings, that the oxide tape was actually clear. Of course today everything is digital but back then it was a risk because the tape would become fragile and they could lose everything if it crumbled. (FYI those tapes still exist. They have been "baked' which is when magnetic tapes are literally baked at a low temperature for 6 -8 hours which removes moisture to maintain them). For example, most people believe that the 1st two verses of Bohemian Rhapsody are a collaboration of Freddie, Roger, and Brian harmonizing together but that is incorrect. Those 2 verses are being sung only by Freddie. Freddie laid down 5 separate tracks, harmonizing with himself and then use overdubbing to blend the five tracks to produce the sound for the following verses: "Is this the real life, is this just fantasy? Caught in a landslide no escape from reality Open your eyes look up to the skies and see I'm just a poor boy, I need no sympathy Because I'm easy come, easy go A little high, little low Anyway the wind blows Doesn't really matter to me, to me"

Awesome! Totally another gem of their genius! There so many underrated songs, its just tragic! In this song, there are also veiled references to Noah's Ark, such as the subject of storms, "two by two my human zoo", "running for to come out of the rain", "return like the white dove." By the way, aside from the guitar, they also played a toy Japanese koto (another string instrument) in the intro and finale. Queen was greatly influenced by Japan during their first tour there in 1974.
If you listen to other studio versions of their songs, you will hear that most often the harmonies are all Freddie. He did 5 part harmonies❤️

Thanks, Hap - this has been described as "Brian May's Bo-Rap" - I think it's actually much more complicated - but what would you expect from an astrophysicist? lol.. btw, the end segues into "Love of my Life"... if you had any of their early vinyl, as I did - there was NO space between songs...

This song is an amazing epic masterpiece and it’s my second favourite Queen song, beaten to my number 1 spot by the wonderful but sadly underrated “It’s Late”, also by Brian. Love your reactions. Keep up the good work.
Again, Hap - you got this - I've heard it described as as Brian's "Bohemian Rhapsody" - I guess in a way, not inaccurate - you probably noticed the very end of the song leads directly into "Love of my Life" - that was a feature on Queen albums in the day - NO space between songs.. I had (and still have) pretty much all the vinyl -
@@HAP3SPEAKZ Ha, indeed, Hap- not only would I not part with them, but as a teenager when I bought them, I was not exactly "careful" - I have not tried to play on a turntable in DECADES (well, at least two) -- I'm sure they're all scratchy and maybe even not "viable" - but still, they're MY albums from teenage years, so I guess I'll have them put in my coffin when my time comes.. - lol
I would like to see your reaction to ''Spread your wings'' - written by John Deacon (1977), beautiful song, a fan favorite song that was never a hit. The video was filmed in Roger’s backyard garden in the freezing cold. The ground was covered in snow and ice, and the band was noticeably uncomfortable. During the shoot, the ice and snow on the ground complicated matter. Freddie and Roger both have their gloves on while Brian and John's fingers are falling off. :). John sneeze and he touches his nose to wipe off the drop Roger said that Freddie was drunk while filming this. You can see that he barely could stand. At some point Freddie almost fell down in the snow (you can see it in the alternative takes). He was celebrating buying his first car, a Rolls, and continued to drink during shooting. (check this out: ( ''Queen - Spread Your Wings (Remastered Audio 2011)''. @@HAP3SPEAKZ Roger went to University to become a dentist. I think he got his degree in biology. John went to University to become an engineer. John made what is called the Deacy amp, which made an amazing sound that could not be duplicated. Sometime in the past 10 years John allowed them to take it apart to figure out what made it so special. John also ended up handling all the money. Although he is not involved with Queen anymore, he still keeps an eye on the money. Freddie went to University for art. ya man, Amazing Song and Great Reaction. The most things and facts were already said so I'll just say one thing where I don't know if somebody told you yet. The ending of the Song was so subtle and nice because it would Transition to the next song in the album which was a big song Love of My Life. If you hear Love of my Life someday, you will definitely notice that Guitar from this song again :D. Queen always played with the panning thing but also with Transition to songs. They were amazing at both of these things. Look I don't know your plans or if you want to do this but I would be really happy, i think even most of your viewers would be happy. If you want to hear how amazing they were at transition to songs react to *_Queen - Ogre Battle / The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke / Nevermore (2011 Remaster + Lyrics)._* Yes that is a Video where the guy combined 3 Songs of Queen that were connected just like in the original Queen II album. The Official Queen channel failed to put in transitions so that video that I requested is one way where you'll notice their transitions. The Video also has the lyrics to the songs in it so you'll also have the lyrics in the video too then. The thing is I don't know if you would want to do this because you'll instantly react to 3 Songs and have to react them in one go but still giving your opinion separately if you understand. (the 3 songs combined are just 8 minutes JUST LIKE the Prophet Song where it is only 1 song 😂) You also can't pause between the switch to the next song because you watch that for the amazingness and the transitions so it would be weird pausing right in the transition😂. You'll notice by the video when the next song is showing up, but I'm sure you notice yourself when the one song ended and the other starts. But it isn't really hard to react to those 3 in one go and giving the opinion separate on each song. But as I said I don't know if you want to do it. IF Yes, then I give you some useful facts you have to know for each song before listening. Ogre Battle is just an *amazing* Rock Song and the rest you'll notice yourself, but The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke is one where I have to explain some stuff. The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke is a painting in a Museum in England which Freddie really loved, Freddie then has written a song with the same name and wow who would've thought, it is a Song explaining the Painting and whats on it 😂. Luckily the Guy who put together the transition Video also put the Painting in the Video so you can see what Freddie is referring to (unlike the official queen channel they also don't have that in it.) So it would be just perfect reacting to the Video with instantly the 3 songs. The song also has many amazing high notes by Freddie and Roger. Freddie sings the song in a higher way than he usually does which sounds great as always. The last song Nevermore is also just amazing and also instrumentally connected with The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke. Would be very cool if you react to the Video with those 3 songs in one ( the title of the video is *_Queen - Ogre Battle / The Fairy Feller's Master-Stroke / Nevermore (2011 Remaster + Lyrics)._* )
