Real Royalty

Күн бұрын

Michael Buerk and chef Paul Ainsworth recreate a dish served at one of the most lavish royal banquets of all time. Dr Polly Russell hears about how Henry VIII spent a fortune to transform Leeds Castle into a pleasure castle, and chef Michael Caines recreates a sumptuous dish he cooked for the Queen at Royal Ascot.
From Elizabeth II to Cleopatra, Real Royalty peels back the curtain to give a glimpse into the lives of some of the most influential families in the world, with new full length documentaries posted every week covering the monarchies of today and all throughout history.

Thank you for this fascinating history from Queen Victoria's "Amazing Christmas dinner"! As a Brit-American, an "Anglophile", I will never believe like some peopled do that "British cooking is boring"! Some of the French people have said that and the Brits have borrowed some of their famous recipes! Here in Yankee New England we have some of the same customs as in the UK even to this day, British influenced recipes, popovers, Yorkshire pudding and roast beef for Christmas and plum pudding with hard sauce which my late mother whose forebears were from the UK, here since 1721, would pour whiskey over the plum pudding and then ignite it, all aflamed in a blue light as she carried it into a darkened dining room! We also had chocolate novelty candies imported from Germany on our Christmas tree from our German/Swiss i.e. Pennsylvania Dutch heritage and I continued that tradition when my three children were growing up! Cheers, Merry Christmas, /Happy Holidays and a Happy New Year 2023! ♥🎄🍷🥮🫖♥

You can tell he’s a real chef because when he’s adding the wine, he says “just a glug” then he puts in - just a glug! In my house, if the recipe says add a glug of wine, at least half the bottle gets poured in, then the rest goes into the chef - me😊😋

Thoroughly enjoyed this show (am hoping they do more of them) and they say the 'modern' population use to eat too much rich food - rubbish, after watching what our ancestors ate, I would say we are restrained except for our pets. I used to give my dog (on vet advice and in measured doses) a mixture of cooked rice or pasta, mashed up pumpkin or broccoli and partially cooked minced lamb or beef mixed with some cooked garlic (garlic is okay providing it is cooked) - good for keeping away those pesky fleas. I used to cook it in bulk, bag it up and freeze it, add half a portion of the small 'My Dog' containers (for those in Australia or a high quality tinned dog food elsewhere) and when feeding him throw in a small handful of dry food. He thought he had gone to heaven because he could not eat the PAL dog food, they changed the recipe and he could not keep it down. Actually it worked out a hell of a lot cheaper than buying cans of dog food. 🇦🇺🇦🇺😁😁🇦🇺🇦🇺

Michael, how many people were employed to prepare that royal banquet with over 120 dishes? To me, that is the equivalent of the largest cruise-ships in the world with hundreds of employees in the food-service department, delivering the daily buffets comprising a dozen or more serving-stations, each of which is a buffet in its own right. An incredible indulgence and cost that banquet must have been! Enough dishes in one meal to last most people a whole month.

I happen to work for a king that fed 5 thousand unannounced guests (not including their wives and children who ate to their hearts content!) Amazingly, there were plenty leftovers....!!??!! That is not all, the ruler I work for is so generous and loving, he's planning a dinner for me as we speak! No kidding. He always does what he says! It's been scheduled in for a long time and I am really looking forward to it, lol. It's gonna be soon - in the blink of an eye! It's kinda weird because I am quite shy and he says he gonna lay out that meal right in front of people that don't like me that much 😳 But he's such a nice guy that I know he will make me feel so good about the banquet, I won't even notice the mean folks that are fuming. Anyway, it's gonna be great and I can hardly wait! Oh, the king's name is Jesus and he's nothing like the rulers of this earth. He's quite the opposite. The rulers here save themselves and send little folks to the front lines of war to lose their lives. Jesus did it the other way around: he gave up his life to save us in the battle. You can fully trust a man like that, ya know. Just sayin... Jesus feeds 5 thousand can be found in the Bible in Matthew 14: 13-21 and also in Mark 6: 30-44, Luke 9:10-17 and John 6:1-14. The huge meal he will prepare for us workers is in Psalm 23: 5✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽✌🏽

Why be surprised that a good stock takes 7 hours or so to simmer? My grandmothers had stocks, soups, and stews on the back burners of coal stoves just simmering away almost every day except Sunday. I learned to cook on their coal stoves. My maternal grandmother told me that she wouldn't consider me a decent cook until I could fry an egg on the coal stove without crisping the edges. It was a skill I never mastered. But out of their kitchens came moist chocolate cakes, figgy puddings, fruit cakes, plum puddings, roasts, meat pies, fruit pies, as well as soups and stews redolent of herbs and home cooked stocks. All those I did over my lifetime, but I cannot to this day fry an egg without crisping the edges.

we may not make it if we fail to be diligent in our quest to tell others. and the bible says: do not give out for we shall reap if we do not tire out. critical times hard to deal with will be here and is here already others have been going through it. if we can be mindful of our house hold. and how to make our life more easier so we can concentrate on the more important things. less dishes to wash. how to make our life simple. by praying about it we can conquer the difficult house hold tasks we have everyday. and at work and do we even have to work. how much money do we really need. and how long can we live on what we got. and have the faith to let our savings go down. and rely on GOD for our needs. and what does GOD tell us: that if he cares for and feeds the sparrows then would should realize he will care for our needs too. GOD says test him out please, and see if he will not pour out to us a great measure over flowing. we always say what can we do before we kick the bucket. well on our bucket list should be, to serve Jehovah our GOD with our whole life. whole heart, whole mind. PLEASE PASS IT ON!
