We Will Rock You” was released as a Double-A-Single with “We Are the Champions”, and became one of Queen’s biggest songs worldwide and a staple of arena and stadium sports everywhere. It was a conscious decision by Brian May to make the song simple and anthemic (“stomp, stomp, clap, pause” twice per 4/4 measure), to get their live audiences more involved in their shows. The connection to sports arenas was actually part of the song since its conception, as Brian May told Billboard that the sound of fans stomping on the original Boston Garden’s wooden bleachers was what stuck in his head and inspired the song’s production. A combination of easy-to-remember chorus, synchronized clapping opportunities, and allusions to “sport” made it a strong candidate for arena play. Once introduced to sporting events, it went on to spread very quickly for the reasons listed above.

It's a rock anthem and was mostly a song to get the crowd involved with the clapping and stomping. It usually is performed alongside "We Are The Champions" as it was paired on the radio. Queen has a huge musical catalog of hit songs and just the live performances alone are awesome. Check out Live Aid 1985 which is their best moment and probably the best performance in music history. Great reactions!

It seems to be about different eras of a boy's life, starting as a child, then a young man, then an old man. He wanted to change the world in some way, while society put him down. Of course this is my opinion. Queen members left it up to the listeners to decide, they didn't even talk about the meaning of their songs among themselves.

This song has been played at nearly every sporting event on the planet .. including We Are The Champions! Brian May wrote this song using only prime numbers for the “stomp stomp clap”. Genius …. well Brian is a genius! He has a PhD in Astro Physics! Freddie had a degree in Graphics Arts/Design. Roger was studying Dentistry & Biology. John had a degree in Electrical Engineering. Heard he was good with numbers, too! 🧐🤔🎓📚

Written by Dr Brian May he came up with it in the early days for the fans, something they could join in with, don't make the mistake of thinking Freddie wrote everything, he didn't he in his own words was just the lead singer not the leader of the group made up from four very different writers and who all played different instruments

@@TheCottons yes very Dr Brian May (Astrophysicist) finished his degree, and built his own Red Special Guitar with his dad in the early 60's with items from around the family home, and John built the Amps which he and Brian would use for the sound they wanted, Fred a lot of the covers of albums etc as he was studying design when he met Brian and Roger when they were part of a band at college

Freddie and the boys were annoyed with management and the company doing the filming, they "insisted" that the same clothes be worn for each of the two performances they were recording, and instructed the crowd to remain quiet and in their seats so they didn't interfere with the recording. Of course Freddie wasn't having any of that which is why he wore the clothes for this performance that he knew would have them outraged.
