My second favorite song off Queen's A Night At The Opera album released on November 21, 1975 on EMI/Parlophone records. "You're My Best Friend" was written by bassist John Deacon who wrote it for his wife Veronica Tetzlaff. They have been married since January 18, 1975 and have six children. It was John's first single and it reached #9 on the US Billboard chart and #7 in the UK after the single was released on May 18, 1976 with a B-side of "39."
An elaborate video was made before the song was released where they are surrounded by hundreds of candles in a ballroom. Queen did a lot of videos, as well as some other groups in the 60s and 70s, long before MTV was created. On this song John plays a Wurlitzer electric piano and bass. Apparently the album was the most expensive album ever to record when it was released. It was a commercial success.
A Night At The Opera became Queen's first platinum record. It reached #4 on the Billboard 200. They launched their Night At The Opera Tour in England and Scotland on November 14, 1975 for 26 shows, came to the US again on January 27, 1976 beginning in New England (CT) for a total of 33 U.S. shows, then went to Japan for the first time performing 9 shows in 7 cities there. Then onto Australia for 8 more shows. Total = 76 shows ending the tour on April 22, 1976. They were still performing smaller theaters in the US, ~4,000 capacities, but the next year in 1977 it was Madison Square Garden and arenas. I guess people got wise to how good their shows were...a truly impressive rock band.

0:32 is funny. Here's what it says:
But it's not just those great knees that cause Mercurymania! It's just that Freddie's such a fantastic person when he's on stage...flashing those dark eyes at whoever's closest. Enough to make anyone turn to jelly in their seats...or under them depending on whether you're conscious or not. Moving like a slinky, wild cat, he stamps a bare foot toward the stage lights with bitter-sweet song.
"Love yer, Freddie!" calls a girl from the front...and he throws her a kiss, and then THAT look! Like the picture...giving them the evil eye...and casting a strange spell on the audience.
WIGGLE
And as Freddie turns his back on the audience, wearing those terrific white trousers that look as if he's been poured into them...the call goes up "Wiggle some more, darling!"
But Freddie wiggled too much in those tight trousers and they split right up the backside. Lucky for him there were plenty of white tassles covering the bald patch, and not so many fans saw what happened...Those who did "were almost breaking their neck trying to see behind me," says Freddie. Not to worry girls...he's not switching to baggies yet so there's still a chance it'll happen again for all you hopefuls! And there's no permanent bird on the horizon either, so you're all still available to be Freddie's '77 mate...a real supersonic hook-up!
