The rap and hip hop we hear now is a reflection of how fucking dumb the general public is. This rap had soul and a message as did most hip hop from this era... now rap promotes mindless consumerism and glorifies sociopathy. Humans are called sheep for a reason and black people have sold off such a powerful musical gift for pittance.

Damn.. this song still makes me feel like a strong black woman....too bad ima Rican dude. Ok no one is gonna see this comment but real talk for a second. In 1990 my mother died, I was just a small lad and to this day I don't know why but Ms Latifah came to my grandmother's home in irvington just outside Newark NJ to pay her respects. It was a small gesture that stuck with me. Taught me a few things that I carry today....so whenever I can do something small or seemingly insignificant for someone else...I take that opportunity....

people ain't the problem the industry is the problem. You can't buy what isn't produced labeled and sold. I mean you can now with some newer platforms but the stuff that gets big is only big because its what they Agreed to sell you. Its hard for stuff to go viral without Being bribed up at the radio stations. Nobody is looking through 10 million songs to find the real shit and if they are then someone is paying them. The music industry in the usa has always been a scam. It's why the majority of "artists" are young and attractive. Just look at Opera the best singers there are focused only on voice and not looks. I call everything that is listened to in the usa Sub-pop because it's either pop or a subdivision trying to be pop. Original Rap was about story telling to a beat. Its not all garbage like mumble rap and wannabe dealer/gangster rap of today

Back in the day this was revolutionary. Women were ready for this shit to stop and then the pendulum swung back hard. It’s swinging back again though, and so we may see this come back.

This lady was only 23 in this video. Wow. I remember when they previewed this video during an episode of living single and it shocked me as a child because even though I knew there was a Queen Latifah separated from Kadijah, I think it was the first time I saw her in Queen Latifah mode outside of her show's character. My fam didn't have cable in the early 90s so I didn't start seeing many music videos until we got cable years later. So this video is my first true introduction to her music. Still hits fresh to this day.

The horns at the beginning was genius, this song takes me right back to the 90's. 🥺

That horn was also reminiscent of old school hip hop.
