In the movie 'Titanic', while the band plays 'Nearer My God To Thee', there's a scene where the mother is comforting and putting her 2 children to sleep. If you listen closely, you'll hear her say "And they lived happily ever after, in the land of Tir Na Nog, land of eternal youth, and beauty."

this is the story of Tir Na Nog The best known tale of Tir na nOg is the story of the young Irish warrior Oisin, who fell in love with the flame-haired maiden Niamh, whose father was the king of Tir na nOg. They crossed the sea on Niamh’s white mare together to reach the magical land, where they lived happily for three hundred years. Despite the eternal joy of Tir na nOg, there was a part of Oisin that missed his homeland, and he occasionally felt a strange longing to return to Ireland. Finally, Niamh knew she could hold him back no longer, and sent him back to Ireland, and his tribe, the Fianna. Oisin traveled back to his home on the magical white mare, but when he arrived, he found that all of his friends and family were long dead, and his castle overgrown with weeds - after all, he had been gone for three hundred years. Oisin turned the mare back to the west, sadly preparing to go back to Tir na nOg. On the way, the mare’s hoof caught a stone, and Oisin thought to himself that if he carried the rock back with him to Tir na nOg, it would be like taking a bit of Ireland back with him. As he learned down to pick up the stone, he stumbled and fell, and instantly aged three hundred years. The mare panicked and ran into the sea, heading back to Tir na nOg without him. However, some fishermen had been watching on the shore, and they were astonished to see a man age so fast. Naturally they assumed magic was afoot, so they gathered up Oisin and took him to see Saint Patrick. When Oisin came before Saint Patrick, he told him the story of his red-headed love, Niamh, and his journey, and the magical land of Tir na nOg. Once he was finished, Oisin crossed out of this lifetime, and he was at last at peace.

TIR NA NOG (irish) In the Irish myth cycles, the land of Tir na nOg is the realm of the Otherworld, the place where the Fae lived and heroes visited on quests. It was a place just outside the realm of man, off to the west, where there was no illness or death or time, but only happiness and beauty. It is important to note that Tir na nOg was not so much an “afterlife” as it was a an earthly place, a land of eternal youth, that could only be reached by way of magic. (for all the people who were wondering 😊)

I grew up in a mainly irish family, so that means instead of Cinderella I would get fairie tales like this. Tired na nog was always one of my favorites, about a prince who met a beautiful princess on her visit to Ireland and they married on the condition that he went with her to Tir na nog. They spent two years happily ruling, but the prince eventually got lonely and decided to take a trip back to see his family. The princess couldn't convince him otherwise, and so told him to not step off of his horse or touch Ireland in any way or he would never be able to go back, but through a turn of events he found out it had been 200 years since he left and in his sadness, did. Then he turned old and like crumbled into dust. Good story.

"Considering what happened to the last guy who did I'd rather not." Some version of the Tir Na Nog story was that the thing the mortal who went to Tir Na Nog couldn't do was get off the horse he rode to get back to the land of Mortals. When he came back was supposedly when St. Patrick was magic Ireland Christian and he came across a couple of men carrying stones to build a church. They dropped it and he reached out to grab the stone. The stirrup of his saddle snapped and he fell of and promptly aged like no one's business (all 300 years he was gone (3 years in Tir Na Nog) catching up to him all at once.) What makes the version I read sad was that he actually managed to go back to Tir Na Nog but his lady, took one look at him and violently rejected the poor guy in disgust and he was kicked out to live the remainder of his life a shriveled old prune. He was attended to by St. Patrick until he passed away. Now there are two versions of what happened to him. One is that one his death bed he accepted baptism and Died in the Grace of God. The other is that he rejected it because he asked about the comrades of his time and when he learned there was no way for them to join him he refused to accept the Baptism. He claimed he'd everything else, he wouldn't lose the opportunity to see his comrades on the other side. Wherever that may be. That bit may have actually come from a semi-historical event in the Dark Age Netherlands. There was a powerful Frisian (part of the Netherlands) chieftain who was being convinced to become Christian. According to the records he was literally one foot away from being baptized when he asked about his ancestors. He was told that they're burning in hell with no chance of reprieve. He promptly kicked the monk/bishop out of Frisia. His claim was that he'd rather sit in hell with his ancestors than in heaven with his enemies the Franks. He made a ferocious fight of keeping his people's independence and pagan ways and even managed to defeat Charles Martel, (Charles the Hammer) in one battle but was eventually over run. Sorry...I find this stuff fun. Anyway my answer is "Sorry sweet-heart but I like my friends and family. You can stand to stay away for my life-time right? It'd only be a few minutes for you at the most right?"

Speaking as an Irish man: for those who don't know what Tir Na Nog is, it's from Irish folklore. The story goes that if you go there you never age or grow old. Finn McCool went to Tir Na Nog and decided to come back to Ireland to visit his father. But before he left he was given a native horse and was told to never step off the horse and onto Irish soil. But he did and he aged to 300 years old and, of course, died. Just a fun bit of education 🙂

Basically, warrrior dude leaves his bros for this one chick and they go to a magic kingdom where you don't age. And then he gets sad and shit - so the woman is like: "k - you can go back for a bit just don't get off the fucking horse!" So he goes back, sees a big rock that nobody can move and is like: "I can totally lift that" and gets off and fucking ages like a few hundred years. Then saint paddy is like: "oh btw we christian now."

For anyone who enjoys Celtic mythology, or for anyone who is a fan of Rick Riordan's Greek, Roman, and Egyptian books series i recommend Kevin Hearne's "Iron Druid Chronicles". Celtic mythology with a modern twist

I've read those books! They're pretty good.

I admit that I don't really like nightcore as much as a lot of people, but I think that this came out well balanced than usual.

There was thunder when I was listening to this nightcore, the timing at the beginning matched up perfectly.
