@brianmathews29264 жыл бұрын
QOTSA are always going to be defined by their early, genre defining work. But this song is such a great example of a band progressing forward while never losing sight of their original selves. The talent level and sheer ability of the various ensembles over the years has skyrocketed since their original incarnation, and the culmination of that trajectory on this album is truly remarkable. It will get lost to most observers who have either moved on from QOTSA due to the changing times or have written this album off due to the involvement of Mark Ronson. But this album is really and truly an incredible body of work, and it stands up against anything they've ever done. The live performances really capture it in a way that maybe the recorded version didn't, and this video really drives it home. I'm so happy these guys are still making music, and here's hoping there's more ahead in the 20s.

@@odenweller1313 seen all incarnations, even saw Sons of Kyuss back in 1990 in a living room/house party in La Quinta, CA. THIS is the best version, to me. skillwise, Jon is easily their best drummer, though i'd like to see them just cut him loose on more than his nightly massive drum solo... his chops as displayed in The Mars Volta are amazzzing... but i get it...QOTSA is NOT a prog rock band, even if they do stray into a bit of proggy territory for a few songs each album. the drummer has to stay more or less on point, as JH writes from the perspective of POLKA music on much of their stuff... so it HAS to have that groove. So he stays in his lane, while giving the skins a nightly thrashing... Nick brought great, reckless attitude, but Mikey Shoes is the more skilled bassist AND singer (he's great singing in Mini Mansions)... Troy and Dean are sick with it... and of course, Joshua M. Homme as conductor of this wild train ride, taking us through all the twists and turns of this Matterhorn--nobody could do it, THIS, better.

@@SmEliot21 everything was just overcompressed IMO. probably that mark ronson effect, although i haven't heard enough of his production to know for sure. JT has been low in the mix for the entire time he's been with QOTSA, though... quite possibly out of habit for Josh and friends, having started out with less skilled drummers than JT; like, "hey, joey's great at rocking that steady pocket extra heavy, so let's focus our sound on those trippy guitars." even dating back to Kyuss, who got their start at house parties and generator parties out in the desert... settings where the drums can tend to dominate the sound too much if you're not careful... but now he's got a god-level drummer i think JH needs to crank JT's levels up a bit.
